58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
6Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
7So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
8Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
9For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
10To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
(KJV)
58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
6Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
7So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a 1 should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
8Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
9For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
10To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
(KJV/NC)
58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5But if any hath caused sorrow, he hath caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I press not too heavily) to you all.
6Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;
7so that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow.
8Wherefore I beseech you to confirm your love toward him.
9For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things.
10But to whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also: for what I also have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, for your sakes have I forgiven it in the presence of Christ;
11that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
(ASV)
58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5¶ But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me only, but to a certain degree all of you; therefore the news will not be a shock to you.
6The rebuke of many persons is sufficient for such a man.
7So that from henceforth you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one will be overcome with excessive grief.
8I beseech you therefore that you confirm your love toward him.
9For that is why I wrote you, that I might know by your word whether you are obedient in all things.
10To whom you forgive anything, I forgive also; for anything which I have forgiven, to whomever I forgave it, it is for your sakes I forgave it in the presence of Christ,
11Lest Satan might take advantage of us; for we know his devices. (LAM)
58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5But if any one has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure--not to put it too severely-- to you all.
6For such a one this punishment by the majority is enough;
7so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
8So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him.
9For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything.
10Any one whom you forgive, I also forgive. What I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ,
11to keep Satan from gaining the advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his designs.(RSV)
58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent -- not to put it too severely.
6The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him.
7Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
8I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him.
9The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
10If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven -- if there was anything to forgive -- I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake,
11in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.(NIV)
58 Second Corinthians 2:5-11
5But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I not press too heavily) to you all.
6Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;
7so that on the contrary youP should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his excessive sorrow.
8Therefore I beg you to confirm your love toward him.
9For to this end I also wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether youP are obedient in all things.
10Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,
11that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.(WEB)
