40 John 1:19-28 ¹⁹ܘܗܕܐ ܗܝ ܤܗܕܘܬܗ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܟܕ ܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܡܢ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܠܘܝܐ ܕܢܫܐܠܘܢܝܗܝ ܐܢܬ ܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܀ ²⁰ܘܐܘܕܝ ܘܠܐ ܟܦܪ ܘܐܘܕܝ ܕܠܘ ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܀ ²¹ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܬܘܒ ܡܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܐܠܝܐ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ ܐܝܬܝ ܢܒܝܐ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ ܀ ²²ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܘܡܢܘ ܐܢܬ ܕܢܬܠ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܫܕܪܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܥܠ ܢܦܫܟ ܀ ²³ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܩܠܐ ܕܩܪܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܐܫܘܘ ܐܘܪܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܀ ²⁴ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܐܫܬܕܪܘ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܗܘܘ ܀ ²⁵ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܡܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܡܥܡܕ ܐܢܬ ܐܢ ܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܟ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܠܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܀ ²⁶ܥܢܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܐ ܡܥܡܕ ܐܢܐ ܒܡܝܐ ܒܝܢܬܟܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܩܐܡ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ ܀ ²⁷ܗܢܘ ܗܘ ܕܒܬܪܝ ܐܬܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܩܕܡܝ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܫܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܫܪܐ ܥܪܩܐ ܕܡܤܢܘܗܝ ܀ ²⁸ܗܠܝܢ ܒܒܝܬ ܥܢܝܐ ܗܘܝ ܒܥܒܪܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܡܥܡܕ ܗܘܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܀ (SYP)

40 John 1:19-28 ¹⁹And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? ²⁰And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. ²²Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? ²³He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. ²⁴And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. ²⁵And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? ²⁶John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; ²⁷He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.(KJV)

Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. ²²They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. 40 John 1:19-28 ¹⁹¶ This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you? ²⁰And he confessed and did not deny it; but he declared, I am not the Christ. ²¹Then they asked him again, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you a prophet? And he said, No. ²²Then they said to him, Who are you? so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say concerning yourself? ²³He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Straighten the highway of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said. ²⁴Those who were sent were from the Pharisees. ²⁵And they asked him, saying to him, Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ nor Elijah nor a prophet? ²⁶John answered, saying to them, I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know; ²⁷This is the one who comes after me and is ahead of me, the one even the strings of whose shoes I am not good enough to untie. ²⁸These things happened in Bethany at the Jordan crossing, where John was baptizing. What do you say about yourself?" ²³He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, `Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."

²⁴Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵They asked him, "Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" ²⁶John answered them, "I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know, ²⁷even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." ²⁸This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.(RSV)

40 John 1:19-28 ¹⁹Now this was John's testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. ²⁰He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Christ."

²¹They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."

²²Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"

²³John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the desert, `Make straight the way for the Lord.'"

²⁴Now some Pharisees who had been sent ²⁵questioned him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

²⁶"I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know. ²⁷He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie."

²⁸This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.(NIV)

²⁰He confessed, and didn't deny, but he confessed, 'I am not the Messiah.'

²¹They asked him, 'What then? Are you Elijah?'

He said, 'I am not.'

'Are you the prophet?'

He answered, 'No.'

²²They said therefore to him, 'Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?'

²³He said, 'I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said.'

²⁴The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees. ²⁵They asked him, 'Why then do you immerse, if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'

²⁶Yochanan answered them, 'I immerse in water, but among you stands one whom you don't know. ²⁷He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loosen.' ²⁸These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where Yochanan was immersing.(WEB/HNV)
