   1And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
2And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
3And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herods steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
 4And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
5A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
8And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
 9And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
10And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
11Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
 16No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
17For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
18Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
19Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
20And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
21And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
 22Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
23But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
24And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
26And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
 27And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
29(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
30And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
31And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
32And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
34When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
35Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
36They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
37Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
38Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
 40And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
41And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
42For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
43And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately.
48And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
49While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogues house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.
50But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
51And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
52And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
53And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
54And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
55And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
56And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.(KJV)

33And the demons came out from the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, and were drowned.
34And when they that fed them saw what had come to pass, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country.
35And they went out to see what had come to pass; and they came to Jesus, and found the man, from whom the demons were gone out, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus: and they were afraid.
36And they that saw it told them how he that was possessed with demons was made whole.

1AND it came to pass after these things Jesus was traveling in cities and villages, preaching and giving good news of the kingdom of God. And his twelve were with him,
2And the women who were healed of diseases and unclean spirits, Mary who is called of Magdala, from whom seven demons went out,
3And Joanna, the wife of Chuza the steward of Herod, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to them of their wealth.
4¶ And when many people had gathered and were coming to him from all the cities, he spoke in parables.
5A sower went out to sow his seed. And when he had sown, some seed fell on the roadside; and it was trodden under foot, and the birds ate it.
6Other seed fell upon the rock; and sprang up quickly, and because it had no moisture, it dried up.
7And other seed fell among thistles; and the thistles sprang up with it and choked it.
8And other seed fell in good and fertile ground; and sprang up and bore fruit a hundredfold. And when he said this, he cried out, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
9And his disciples asked him, What is this parable?
10He said to them, To you it is granted to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest it has to be said in figures; for while they see, they do not perceive; and while they hear, they do not understand.
11This is the parable: The seed is the word of God.
12Those on the roadside are those who hear the word, and the enemy comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
13Those on the rock are those who when they have heard, receive the word with joy; and yet they have no root, but their belief is for a while, and in time of trial they stumble.
14That which fell among the thistles are those who hear the word, and then choke themselves with worries and riches and worldly covetousness, and bear no fruit.
15But that in good soil, these are those who hear the word with a pure and good heart, and keep it, and hear fruit with patience.
16No man lights a lamp and covers it with a vessel, or puts it under the bed; but he puts it on the lamp stand, that whoever enters sees its light.
17For there is nothing covered which will not be uncovered; and nothing hidden which will not be known and come to light.
18Take heed how you hear; for he who has, to him shall be given; and from him who has not, even that which he thinks he has shall be taken away.
19And there came to him his mother and his brothers, and they were not able to speak to him because of the crowd.
20And they said to him, Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, and they want to see you.
21He answered, saying to them, These are my mother and my brothers, those who hear the word of God and do it.
22¶ It came to pass on one of the days Jesus went up and sat in a boat with his disciples; and he said to them, Let us cross to the other side of the lake.
23And while they were rowing, Jesus fell asleep; and there rose a storm of wind on the lake; and the boat was near sinking.
24And they came up and awoke him and said to him, Our Teacher, our Teacher, we are perishing. He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and they quieted down and there was a calm.
25And he said to them, Where is your faith? But as they were frightened, they wondered, saying one to another, O who is this man, who even commands the winds and the waves and the sea obey him?
26And they rowed and came to the country of the Gadarenes, which is on the shore opposite Galilee.
27And when he landed, he was met by a man from the city, who had had a demon in him for a long time, and he did not wear clothes and did not live in a house, but in the cemetery.
28When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell before him, and said in a loud voice, What have we in common, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you not to torment me.
29For Jesus commanded the unclean spirit to go out of the man. For it was a long time since he was possessed and bound with chains and kept in fetters; but he would often break off his bonds and was driven into the desert by the demon.
30Jesus asked him, What is your name? He said, Legion, because many demons had entered into him.
31And they besought him not to command them to go down into the abyss.
32Now there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain; and they besought him to permit them to attack the swine. And he permitted them.
33Then the demons went out of the man, and they attacked the swine; and that whole herd went straight to the cliff, and fell down into the lake and were drowned.
34When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the cities and in the villages.
35And some men went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, dressed and well behaved and sitting at the feet of Jesus; and they were afraid.
36And those who had seen it told them how that lunatic was healed.
37Then all the people of the Gadarenes besought him to leave them, because they were seized with a great fear; and Jesus went up into the boat and returned from thence.
38But the man from whom the demons had gone out besought him to remain with him; but Jesus dismissed him and said to him,
39Return to your own house, and declare what God has done for you. And he went away and preached throughout the city what Jesus had done for him.
40¶ When Jesus returned, a large multitude welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.
41And a man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue, fell at the feet of Jesus and besought him to enter into his house.
42For he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was near death. And as Jesus went with him, a large crowd pressed against him.
43Now a woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had spent all her wealth for doctors, could not be healed by anybody.
44She came near him from behind, and touched the edge of his cloak; and immediately her hemorrhage stopped.
45And Jesus said, Who touched me? And when all of them denied it, Simon Peter and those who were with him said to him, Teacher, the crowds are troubling you and pressing on you, and yet you say, Who has touched me?
46But he said, Some one has touched me, for I know that power has gone out of me.
47When the woman saw that she could not deceive him, she came trembling, and fell down and worshipped him; and she said in the presence of all the people for what purpose she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48Jesus said to her, Have courage, my daughter; your faith has healed you; go in peace.
49While he was still talking, there came a man from the house of the leader of the synagogue, and said to him, Your daughter has died, do not trouble the teacher.
50Jesus heard it and said to the father of the girl, Do not be afraid, but only believe, and she will be restored to life.
51Jesus came into the house, and he did not allow anyone to enter with him except Simon and James and John and the father and mother of the girl.
52And all of them were weeping and mourning over her; but Jesus said, Do not weep, for she is not dead but asleep.
53And they laughed at him, for they knew that she was dead.
54Then he put everybody out, and held her by her hand and called her and said, Little girl, arise.
55And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately; and he commanded to give her something to eat.
56And her parents were amazed; but he warned them not to tell any man what had happened.

12The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved.
13And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.
14And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.
15And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience.
16"No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, that those who enter may see the light.
17For nothing is hid that shall not be made manifest, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light.
18Take heed then how you hear; for to him who has will more be given, and from him who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away."
19Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd.
20And he was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you."
21But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it."
22One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side of the lake." So they set out,
23and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in danger.
24And they went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even wind and water, and they obey him?"
26Then they arrived at the country of the Ger'asenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27And as he stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes, and he lived not in a house but among the tombs.
28When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me."
29For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.)
30Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him.
31And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss.
32Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave.
33Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
34When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country.
35Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed.
37Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Ger'asenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned.
38The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying,
39"Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
40Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
41And there came a man named Ja'irus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house,
42for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him.
43And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and could not be healed by any one,
44came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased.
45And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!"
46But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me."
47And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed.
48And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace."
49While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more."
50But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well."
51And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child.
52And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping."
53And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.
54But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise."
55And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat.
56And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.(RSV)

1After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him,
2and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out;
3Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable:
5"A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.
6Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture.
7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants.
8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown." When he said this, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
9His disciples asked him what this parable meant.
10He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, "`though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.'
11"This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.

16"No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.
17For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.
18Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him."
19Now Jesus' mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd.
20Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you."
21He replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice."
22One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and set out.
23As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.
25"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."
26They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee.
27When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
28When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torture me!"
29For Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "Legion," he replied, because many demons had gone into him.
31And they begged him repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.
32A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into them, and he gave them permission.
33When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
34When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside,
35and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured.
37Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39"Return home and tell how much God has done for you." So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
40Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.
41Then a man named Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with him to come to his house
42because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him.
43And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her.
44She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45"Who touched me?" Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you."
46But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me."
47Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.
48Then he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."
49While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," he said. "Don't bother the teacher any more."
50Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed."
51When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child's father and mother.
52Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. "Stop wailing," Jesus said. "She is not dead but asleep."
53They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.
54But he took her by the hand and said, "My child, get up!"
55Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
56Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(NIV)
