37 First Chronicles 16:1-43 ¹וַיָּבִ֙יאוּ֙ אֶת־ אֲר֣וֹן הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים וַיַּצִּ֣יגוּ אֹת֔וֹ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָאֹ֔הֶל אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָֽטָה־ ל֖וֹ דָּוִ֑יד וַיַּקְרִ֛יבוּ עֹל֥וֹת וּשְׁלָמִ֖ים לִפְנֵ֥י הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ ²וַיְכַ֣ל דָּוִ֔יד מֵהַעֲל֥וֹת הָעֹלָ֖ה וְהַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים וַיְבָ֥רֶךְ אֶת־ הָעָ֖ם בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָֽה׃ ³וַיְחַלֵּק֙ לְכָל־ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵאִ֖ישׁ וְעַד־ אִשָּׁ֑ה לְאִישׁ֙ כִּכַּר־ לֶ֔חֶם וְאֶשְׁפָּ֖ר וַאֲשִׁישָֽׁה׃ ⁴וַיִּתֵּ֞ן לִפְנֵ֨י אֲר֧וֹן יְהוָ֛ה מִן־ הַלְוִיִּ֖ם מְשָׁרְתִ֑ים וּלְהַזְכִּיר֙ וּלְהוֹד֣וֹת וּלְהַלֵּ֔ל לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

⁵אָסָ֥ף הָרֹ֖אשׁ וּמִשְׁנֵ֣הוּ זְכַרְיָ֑ה יְעִיאֵ֡ל וּשְׁמִֽירָמ֡וֹת וִֽיחִיאֵ֡ל וּמַתִּתְיָ֡ה וֶאֱלִיאָ֡ב וּבְנָיָהוּ֩ וְעֹבֵ֨ד אֱדֹ֜ם וִֽיעִיאֵ֗ל בִּכְלֵ֤י נְבָלִים֙ וּבְכִנֹּר֔וֹת וְאָסָ֖ף בַּֽמְצִלְתַּ֥יִם מַשְׁמִֽיעַ׃ ⁶וּבְנָיָ֥הוּ וְיַחֲזִיאֵ֖ל הַכֹּהֲנִ֑ים בַּחֲצֹצְר֣וֹת תָּמִ֔יד לִפְנֵ֖י אֲר֥וֹן בְּרִית־ הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ ⁷בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא אָ֣ז נָתַ֤ן דָּוִיד֙ בָּרֹ֔אשׁ לְהֹד֖וֹת לַיהוָ֑ה בְּיַד־ אָסָ֖ף וְאֶחָֽיו׃

⁸הוֹד֤וּ לַֽיהוָה֙ קִרְא֣וּ בִשְׁמ֔וֹ הוֹדִ֥יעוּ בָעַמִּ֖ים עֲלִילֹתָֽיו׃ ⁹שִׁ֤ירוּ לוֹ֙ זַמְּרוּ־ ל֔וֹ שִׂ֖יחוּ בְּכָל־ נִפְלְאֹתָֽיו׃ ¹⁰הִֽתְהַֽלְלוּ֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם קָדְשׁ֔וֹ יִשְׂמַ֕ח לֵ֖ב מְבַקְשֵׁ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ ¹¹דִּרְשׁ֤וּ יְהוָה֙ וְעֻזּ֔וֹ בַּקְּשׁ֥וּ פָנָ֖יו תָּמִֽיד׃ ¹²זִכְר֗וּ נִפְלְאֹתָיו֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה מֹפְתָ֖יו וּמִשְׁפְּטֵי־ פִֽיהוּ׃ ¹³זֶ֚רַע יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל עַבְדּ֔וֹ בְּנֵ֥י יַעֲקֹ֖ב בְּחִירָֽיו׃ ¹⁴ה֚וּא יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ בְּכָל־ הָאָ֖רֶץ מִשְׁפָּטָֽיו׃ ¹⁵זִכְר֤וּ לְעוֹלָם֙ בְּרִית֔וֹ דָּבָ֥ר צִוָּ֖ה לְאֶ֥לֶף דּֽוֹר׃ ¹⁶אֲשֶׁ֤ר כָּרַת֙ אֶת־ אַבְרָהָ֔ם וּשְׁבוּעָת֖וֹ לְיִצְחָֽק׃ ¹⁷וַיַּעֲמִידֶ֤הָ לְיַעֲקֹב֙ לְחֹ֔ק לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם׃ ¹⁸לֵאמֹ֗ר לְךָ֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן אֶֽרֶץ־ כְּנָ֔עַן חֶ֖בֶל נַחֲלַתְכֶֽם׃ ¹⁹בִּֽהְיֽוֹתְכֶם֙ מְתֵ֣י מִסְפָּ֔ר כִּמְעַ֖ט וְגָרִ֥ים בָּֽהּ׃ ²⁰וַיִּֽתְהַלְּכוּ֙ מִגּ֣וֹי אֶל־ גּ֔וֹי וּמִמַּמְלָכָ֖ה אֶל־ עַ֥ם אַחֵֽר׃ ²¹לֹא־ הִנִּ֤יחַ לְאִישׁ֙ לְעָשְׁקָ֔ם וַיּ֥וֹכַח עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם מְלָכִֽים׃ ²²אַֽל־ תִּגְּעוּ֙ בִּמְשִׁיחָ֔י וּבִנְבִיאַ֖י אַל־ תָּרֵֽעוּ׃

²³שִׁ֤ירוּ לַֽיהוָה֙ כָּל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ בַּשְּׂר֥וּ מִיּֽוֹם־ אֶל־ י֖וֹם יְשׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃ ²⁴סַפְּר֤וּ בַגּוֹיִם֙ אֶת־ כְּבוֹד֔וֹ בְּכָל־ הָעַמִּ֖ים נִפְלְאֹתָֽיו׃ ²⁵כִּי֩ גָד֨וֹל יְהוָ֤ה וּמְהֻלָּל֙ מְאֹ֔ד וְנוֹרָ֥א ה֖וּא עַל־ כָּל־ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ ²⁶כִּ֠י כָּל־ אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָעַמִּים֙ אֱלִילִ֔ים וַיהוָ֖ה שָׁמַ֥יִם עָשָֽׂה׃ ²⁷ה֤וֹד וְהָדָר֙ לְפָנָ֔יו עֹ֥ז וְחֶדְוָ֖ה בִּמְקֹמֽוֹ׃ ²⁸הָב֤וּ לַֽיהוָה֙ מִשְׁפְּח֣וֹת עַמִּ֔ים הָב֥וּ לַיהוָ֖ה כָּב֥וֹד וָעֹֽז׃ ²⁹הָב֥וּ לַיהוָ֖ה כְּב֣וֹד שְׁמ֑וֹ שְׂא֤וּ מִנְחָה֙ וּבֹ֣אוּ לְפָנָ֔יו הִשְׁתַּחֲו֥וּ לַיהוָ֖ה בְּהַדְרַת־ קֹֽדֶשׁ׃ ³⁰חִ֤ילוּ מִלְּפָנָיו֙ כָּל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ אַף־ תִּכּ֥וֹן תֵּבֵ֖ל בַּל־ תִּמּֽוֹט׃ ³¹יִשְׂמְח֤וּ הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְתָגֵ֣ל הָאָ֔רֶץ וְיֹאמְר֥וּ בַגּוֹיִ֖ם יְהוָ֥ה מָלָֽךְ׃ ³²יִרְעַ֤ם הַיָּם֙ וּמְלוֹא֔וֹ יַעֲלֹ֥ץ הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה וְכָל־ אֲשֶׁר־ בּֽוֹ׃ ³³אָ֥ז יְרַנְּנ֖וּ עֲצֵ֣י הַיָּ֑עַר מִלִּפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה כִּי־ בָ֖א לִשְׁפּ֥וֹט אֶת־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ ³⁴הוֹד֤וּ לַיהוָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב כִּ֥י לְעוֹלָ֖ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ ³⁵וְאִמְר֕וּ הוֹשִׁיעֵ֙נוּ֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׁעֵ֔נוּ וְקַבְּצֵ֥נוּ וְהַצִּילֵ֖נוּ מִן־ הַגּוֹיִ֑ם לְהֹדוֹת֙ לְשֵׁ֣ם קָדְשֶׁ֔ךָ לְהִשְׁתַּבֵּ֖חַ בִּתְהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃ ³⁶בָּר֤וּךְ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִן־ הָעוֹלָ֖ם וְעַ֣ד הָעֹלָ֑ם וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ כָל־ הָעָם֙ אָמֵ֔ן וְהַלֵּ֖ל לַֽיהוָֽה׃

³⁷וַיַּֽעֲזָב־ שָׁ֗ם לִפְנֵי֙ אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־ יְהוָ֔ה לְאָסָ֖ף וּלְאֶחָ֑יו לְשָׁרֵ֞ת לִפְנֵ֧י הָאָר֛וֹן תָּמִ֖יד לִדְבַר־ י֥וֹם בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃ ³⁸וְעֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֛ם וַאֲחֵיהֶ֖ם שִׁשִּׁ֣ים וּשְׁמוֹנָ֑ה וְעֹבֵ֨ד אֱדֹ֧ם בֶּן־ יְדִית֛וּן וְחֹסָ֖ה לְשֹׁעֲרִֽים׃ ³⁹וְאֵ֣ת׀ צָד֣וֹק הַכֹּהֵ֗ן וְאֶחָיו֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים לִפְנֵ֖י מִשְׁכַּ֣ן יְהוָ֑ה בַּבָּמָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃ ⁴⁰לְֽהַעֲלוֹת֩ עֹל֨וֹת לַיהוָ֜ה עַל־ מִזְבַּ֧ח הָעֹלָ֛ה תָּמִ֖יד לַבֹּ֣קֶר וְלָעָ֑רֶב וּלְכָל־ הַכָּתוּב֙ בְּתוֹרַ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖ה עַל־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ⁴¹וְעִמָּהֶם֙ הֵימָ֣ן וִֽידוּת֔וּן וּשְׁאָר֙ הַבְּרוּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִקְּב֖וּ בְּשֵׁמ֑וֹת לְהֹדוֹת֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י לְעוֹלָ֖ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ ⁴²וְעִמָּהֶם֩ הֵימָ֨ן וִֽידוּת֜וּן חֲצֹצְר֤וֹת וּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ לְמַשְׁמִיעִ֔ים וּכְלֵ֖י שִׁ֣יר הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וּבְנֵ֥י יְדוּת֖וּן לַשָּֽׁעַר׃ ⁴³וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ כָל־ הָעָ֖ם אִ֣ישׁ לְבֵית֑וֹ וַיִּסֹּ֥ב דָּוִ֖יד לְבָרֵ֥ךְ אֶת־ בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ (WLC)

37 First Chronicles 16:1

37 First Chronicles 16:1-43 ¹So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God. ²And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. ³And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine.

⁴And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel: ⁵Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals; ⁶Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

⁷Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren. ⁸Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. ⁹Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. ¹⁰Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. ¹¹Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. ¹²Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; ¹³O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. ¹⁴He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. ¹⁵Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations; ¹⁶Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; ¹⁷And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, ¹⁸Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance; ¹⁹When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it. ²⁰And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people; ²¹He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, ²²Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. ²³Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. ²⁴Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. ²⁵For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. ²⁶For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. ²⁷Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. ²⁸Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. ²⁹Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. ³⁰Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. ³¹Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth. ³²Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. ³³Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth. ³⁴O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. ³⁵And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise. ³⁶Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.

³⁷So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every days work required: ³⁸And Obed- edom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obed-edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters: ³⁹And Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon, ⁴⁰To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel; ⁴¹And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever; ⁴²And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters. ⁴³And all the people departed every man to his house: and David returned to bless his house.(KJV)

⁴And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of Jehovah, and to celebrate and to thank and praise Jehovah, the God of Israel: ⁵Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with psalteries and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud; ⁶and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.

⁷Then on that day did David first ordain to give thanks unto Jehovah, by the hand of Asaph and his brethren.

⁸O give thanks unto Jehovah, call upon his name;

Make known his doings among the peoples.

⁹Sing unto him, sing praises unto him;

Talk ye of all his marvellous works.

¹⁰Glory ye in his holy name;

Let the heart of them rejoice that seek Jehovah.

¹¹Seek ye Jehovah and his strength;

Seek his face evermore.

¹²Remember his marvellous works that he hath done,

His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,

¹³O ye seed of Israel his servant,

Ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

¹⁴He is Jehovah our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

¹⁵Remember his covenant for ever,

The word which he commanded to a thousand generations,

¹⁶The covenant which he made with Abraham,

And his oath unto Isaac,

¹⁷And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

¹⁸Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan,

The lot of your inheritance;

¹⁹When ye were but a few men in number,

Yea, very few, and sojourners in it;

²⁰And they went about from nation to nation,

And from one kingdom to another people.

²¹He suffered no man to do them wrong;

Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,

²²Saying, Touch not mine anointed ones,

And do my prophets no harm.

²³Sing unto Jehovah, all the earth;

Show forth his salvation from day to day.

²⁴Declare his glory among the nations,

His marvellous works among all the peoples.

²⁵For great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised:

He also is to be feared above all gods.

²⁶For all the gods of the peoples are idols:

But Jehovah made the heavens.

²⁷Honor and majesty are before him:

Strength and gladness are in his place.

²⁸Ascribe unto Jehovah, ye kindreds of the peoples,

Ascribe unto Jehovah glory and strength;

²⁹Ascribe unto Jehovah the glory due unto his name:

Bring an offering, and come before him:

Worship Jehovah in holy array.

³⁰Tremble before him, all the earth:

The world also is established that it cannot be moved.

³¹Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;

And let them say among the nations, Jehovah reigneth.

³²Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof;

Let the field exult, and all that is therein;

³³Then shall the trees of the wood sing for joy before Jehovah;

For he cometh to judge the earth.

³⁴O give thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good;

For his lovingkindness endureth for ever.

³⁵And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation,

And gather us together and deliver us from the nations,

To give thanks unto thy holy name,

And to triumph in thy praise.

³⁶Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel,

From everlasting even to everlasting.

And all the people said, Amen, and praised Jehovah.

Then all the people went away, every one to his own house. ⁴And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD and to invoke and to thank and to praise the LORD God of Israel: ⁵Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, also Jeiel, Jehiel, Mattitha, Eliab, Benaiah, Asaph, Amminadab, Asaph, Nahaziel, and Asaph. ⁶These were all the priests who sounded with trumpets continually before the ark of the LORD.

⁷¶ Then on that day David delivered this psalm, both he and the chiefs of all the priests and the Levites to praise the LORD, in the company of Asaph and his brethren. These are the headings of the songs which David sang on that day before the ark of the LORD: ⁸Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. ⁹Sing to him, give thanks to him, tell of all his wondrous works. ¹⁰Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice. ¹¹Seek the LORD and his strength, pray before him continually. ¹²Remember his marvellous works that he has done, his wonders and the judgments of his mouth, ¹³O you descendants of Abraham his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones. ¹⁴He is the LORD our God; his laws are in all the earth. ¹⁵Be mindful of his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations, ¹⁶Even his oath to Abraham and the covenant which he made with the sons of Isaac; ¹⁷And he has confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, ¹⁸Saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance; ¹⁹When you were but few, even a few in numbers and strangers in it. ²⁰And when you were carried away captive from nation to nation and from kingdom to another kingdom, ²¹He permitted not the rulers to harm you, yea, he chastened kings for your sakes, ²²Saying, Touch not my anointed ones and do my prophets no harm. ²³Sing to the LORD, all the earth; show forth from day to day his salvation. ²⁴Declare his glory among the nations; ²⁵For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and he is to be revered above all kings. ²⁶For all the gods of the Gentiles are images; but the LORD made the heavens. ²⁷Glory and majesty are in his presence; strength and greatness are in his sanctuary. ²⁸Give thanks to the LORD, O families of the peoples, give thanks before the LORD due to his glory and strength. ²⁹Give thanks to the LORD with the honor due to his name; bring offerings, and give thanks before him with the prayer of your mouth; worship the LORD with holy songs. ³⁰Tremble before him all the earth; the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. ³¹Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigns. ³²Let the sea roar and the fulness thereof; let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. ³³Then shall the trees of the forest sing praises at the presence of the LORD because he comes to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with justice, and reprove the peoples in faithfulness; ³⁴Say also, O give thanks to the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever. ³⁵Save us, O LORD, save us and gather us together, and bring us back from among the nations, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praises. ³⁶Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. Then all the people shall say, Amen; and with a pleasant and pure mouth, let them praise their God.

³⁷¶ So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the LORD continually, each man working in his appointed day; ³⁸And Ober-edom with his brethren, sixty-eight; Ober-edom the junior, the son of Jotham, and Haso. All of these were keepers of the outer gates; ³⁹And Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, these were all priests who ministered before the tabernacle of the LORD with a great joy in the town of Gibeon, ⁴⁰To offer burnt offerings to the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he gave by the hand of Moses to teach to the children of Israel; ⁴¹And these are the names of the men who stood up singing praises: Haman, Ariton, and the rest of the righteous men whose names were not expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD because his mercy endures for ever; ⁴²And these righteous men gave thanks not with the instruments of singing, neither with the tambourines nor with the timbrels nor with the curved trumpets nor with the straight trumpets nor with the cymbals, but with a pleasant mouth and with pure and perfect prayer and with righteousness and with purity to the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel. ⁴³Then David dismissed the people, and they went every man to his own house; and David returned to bless his household. ¹⁴He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. ¹⁵He is mindful of his covenant for ever, of the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations, ¹⁶the covenant which he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, ¹⁷which he confirmed as a statute to Jacob, as an everlasting covenant to Israel, ¹⁸saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, as your portion for an inheritance."

¹⁹When they were few in number, and of little account, and sojourners in it, ²⁰wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, ²¹he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, ²²saying, "Touch not my anointed ones, do my prophets no harm!"

²³Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day to day. ²⁴Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! ²⁵For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be held in awe above all gods. ²⁶For all the gods of the peoples are idols; but the LORD made the heavens. ²⁷Honor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.

²⁸Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! ²⁹Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come before him! Worship the LORD in holy array; ³⁰tremble before him, all the earth; yea, the world stands firm, never to be moved. ³¹Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!" ³²Let the sea roar, and all that fills it, let the field exult, and everything in it! ³³Then shall the trees of the wood sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. ³⁴O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures for ever!

³⁵Say also: "Deliver us, O God of our salvation, and gather and save us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise. ³⁶Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!" Then all the people said "Amen!" and praised the LORD.

³⁷So David left Asaph and his brethren there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister continually before the ark as each day required, ³⁸and also O'bed-e'dom and his sixty-eight brethren; while O'bed-e'dom, the son of Jedu'thun, and Hosah were to be gatekeepers. ³⁹And he left Zadok the priest and his brethren the priests before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon, ⁴⁰to offer burnt offerings to the LORD upon the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, according to all that is written in the law of the LORD which he commanded Israel. ⁴¹With them were Heman and Jedu'thun, and the rest of those chosen and expressly named to give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures for ever. ⁴²Heman and Jedu'thun had trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jedu'thun were appointed to the gate.

⁴³Then all the people departed each to his house, and David went home to bless his household.(RSV)

⁴He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to make petition, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel: ⁵Asaph was the chief, Zechariah second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals, ⁶and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.

⁷That day David first committed to Asaph and his associates this psalm of thanks to the LORD: ⁸Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. ⁹Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. ¹⁰Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. ¹¹Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. ¹²Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, ¹³O descendants of Israel his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. ¹⁴He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. ¹⁵He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations, ¹⁶the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. ¹⁷He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: ¹⁸"To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit." ¹⁹When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, ²⁰they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. ²¹He allowed no man to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: ²²"Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." ²³Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. ²⁴Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. ²⁵For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. ²⁶For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. ²⁷Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place. ²⁸Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength, ²⁹ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. ³⁰Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. ³¹Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!" ³²Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! ³³Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. ³⁴Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. ³⁵Cry out, "Save us, O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, that we may glory in your praise." ³⁶Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said "Amen" and "Praise the LORD."

³⁷David left Asaph and his associates before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister there regularly, according to each day's requirements. ³⁸He also left Obed-Edom and his sixty-eight associates to minister with them. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun, and also Hosah, were gatekeepers.

³⁹David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon ⁴⁰to present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering regularly, morning and evening, in accordance with everything written in the Law of the LORD, which he had given Israel. ⁴¹With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD, "for his love endures forever." ⁴²Heman and Jeduthun were responsible for the sounding of the trumpets and cymbals and for the playing of the other instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were stationed at the gate.

⁴³Then all the people left, each for his own home, and David returned home to bless his family.(NIV)

These are the headings of the songs which David sang on that day before the ark of Yahvah: ⁸Give thanks to Yahvah, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. ⁹Sing to him, give thanks to him, tell of all his wondrous works. ¹⁰Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those who seek Yahvah rejoice. ¹¹Seek Yahvah and his strength, pray before him continually. ¹²Remember his marvellous works that he has done, his wonders and the judgments of his mouth, ¹³Oh descendants of Abraham his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones. ¹⁴He is Yahvah our God; his laws are in all the earth. ¹⁵Be mindful of his contract forever, the word which he commanded to 1,000 generations, ¹⁶Even his oath to Abraham and the contract which he made with the sons of Isaac; ¹⁷And he has confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting contract, ¹⁸Saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance; ¹⁹When you were but few, even a few in numbers and strangers in it. ²⁰And when you were carried away captive from nation to nation and from kingdom to another kingdom, ²¹He did not permit the rulers to harm you, yes, he chastened kings for your sakes, ²²Saying, Do not touch my anointed ones and do not harm my prophets. ²³Sing to Yahvah, all the earth; show forth from day to day his salvation. ²⁴Declare his glory among the nations; ²⁵For great is Yahvah, and greatly to be praised; and he is to be revered above all kings. ²⁶For all the gods of the Gentiles are images; but Yahvah made the heavens. ²⁷Glory and majesty are in his presence; strength and greatness are in his sanctuary. ²⁸Give thanks to Yahvah, oh families of the peoples, give thanks before Yahvah due to his glory and strength. ²⁹Give thanks to Yahvah with the honor due his name; bring offerings, and give thanks before him with the prayer of your mouth; worship Yahvah with holy songs. ³⁰Tremble before him all the earth; the world will also be stable, that it not be moved. ³¹Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let men say among the nations, Yahvah reigns. ³²Let the sea roar and its fullness; let the fields rejoice, and all that is in them. ³³Then the trees of the forest will sing praises at the presence of Yahvah because he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and reprimand the peoples in faithfulness; ³⁴Also say, Oh give thanks to Yahvah; for he is good; for his mercy endures forever. ³⁵Save us, oh Yahvah, save us and gather us together, and bring us back from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praises. ³⁶Blessed be Yahvah God of Israel forever and ever. Then all the people will say, Amen; and with a pleasant and pure mouth, let them praise their God.

³⁷So he left there before the ark of the contract of Yahvah, Asaph and his brothers, to minister before Yahvah continually, each man working in his appointed day; ³⁸And Oberedom with his brothers, 68; Oberedom the junior, the son of Jotham, and Haso. All of these were keepers of the outer gates; ³⁹And Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, these were all priests who ministered before the tabernacle of Yahvah with a great joy in the town of Gibeon, ⁴⁰To offer burnt offerings to Yahvah on the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of Yahvah, which he gave by the hand of Moses to teach to the children of Israel; ⁴¹And these are the names of the men who stood up singing praises: Haman, Ariton, and the rest of the righteous men whose names were not expressed by name, to give thanks to Yahvah because his mercy endures forever; ⁴²And these righteous men did not give thanks with the instruments of singing, nor with the tambourines nor with the timbrels nor with the curved trumpets nor with the straight trumpets nor with the cymbals, but with a pleasant mouth and with pure and perfect prayer and with righteousness and with purity to Yahvah God of hosts, the God of Israel. ⁴³Then David dismissed the people, and they went every man to his own house; and David returned to bless his household.
