36 Habakkuk 3:1-19 1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth. 2O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy. 3God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. 4And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power. 5Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet. 6He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting. 7I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. 8Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation? 9Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. 10The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high. 11The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear. 12Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger. 13Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah. 14Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly. 15Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters. 16When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.

17Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. 19The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. 36 Habakkuk 3:1-19 1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, set to Shigionoth.

2O Jehovah, I have heard the report of thee, and am afraid:

O Jehovah, revive thy work in the midst of the years;

In the midst of the years make it known;

In wrath remember mercy.

3God came from Teman,

And the Holy One from mount Paran.

Selah.

His glory covered the heavens,

And the earth was full of his praise.

4And his brightness was as the light;

He had rays coming forth from his hand;

And there was the hiding of his power.

5Before him went the pestilence,

And fiery bolts went forth at his feet.

6He stood, and measured the earth;

He beheld, and drove asunder the nations;

And the eternal mountains were scattered;

The everlasting hills did bow;

His goings were as of old.

7I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction;

The curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.

8Was Jehovah displeased with the rivers?

Was thine anger against the rivers,

Or thy wrath against the sea,

That thou didst ride upon thy horses,

Upon thy chariots of salvation?

9Thy bow was made quite bare;

The oaths to the tribes were a sure word.

Selah.

Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.

10The mountains saw thee, and were afraid;

The tempest of waters passed by;

The deep uttered its voice,

And lifted up its hands on high.

11The sun and moon stood still in their habitation,

At the light of thine arrows as they went,

At the shining of thy glittering spear.

12Thou didst march though the land in indignation;

Thou didst thresh the nations in anger.

13Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people,

For the salvation of thine anointed;

Thou woundest the head out of the house of the wicked man,

Laying bare the foundation even unto the neck.

Selah.

14Thou didst pierce with his own staves the head of his warriors:

They came as a whirlwind to scatter me;

Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.

15Thou didst tread the sea with thy horses,

The heap of mighty waters.

16I heard, and my body trembled,

My lips quivered at the voice;

Rottenness entereth into my bones, and I tremble in my place;

Because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble,

For the coming up of the people that invadeth us.

17For though the fig-tree shall not flourish,

Neither shall fruit be in the vines;

The labor of the olive shall fail,

And the fields shall yield no food;

The flock shall be cut off from the fold,

And there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah,

I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19Jehovah, the Lord, is my strength;(ASV)

36 Habakkuk 3:1-19 1A PRAYER of Habakkuk the prophet: 2O LORD, I have heard thy name and am afraid. O LORD, thy works are in the midst of the years of life, in the midst of years they shall be known; in wrath remember thy mercy.

3¶ God came from the south, and the Holy One from mount Paran. The heavens were covered with the brightness of his glory, and the earth was full of his praise. 4And his brightness was as the light; in the city which his hands had established shall he store his power. 5Before him went pestilence, and birds went forth before his feet. 6He stood and measured the earth; he beheld and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the eternal hills were brought low; his ways are everlasting. 7I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; and the curtains of the tents of Midian did tremble. 8Was the LORD angry against the rivers? Was thy anger against the rivers? Was thy rage against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thy horses and upon the chariots of thy salvation? 9Thy bow was made ready, the arrows were abundant at the command of thy glorious word. Thou didst furrow the earth with rivers. 10The mountains saw thee and they quaked; the downpour of the waters passed by; the deep uttered its voice and lifted up its hands on high. 11The sun and moon stood still in their habitations; at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spears. 12Thou didst tread upon the earth in thy indignation, thou didst thresh the nations in thine anger. 13Thou wentest forth to save thy people and to save thine anointed; thou didst cut off the head out of the house of the wicked, thou hast laid him bare from his foundations even to the neck for ever. 14Thou didst break with his own staves the heads of his princes; for they trusted in their savagery to devour the poor secretly. 15Thou didst tread upon the sea with thy horses, through the heap of great waters.

16¶ When I heard it, my body trembled, confusing the words of my mouth; fear entered into my bones and my knees trembled, for he searched me out and declared to me the day of trouble that comes upon the people. 17Though the fig tree has not blossomed and there are no leaves on the vine, though the produce of the olive tree has failed, the threshing-floors have not yielded grain, the sheep are cut off from the flocks, and there are no oxen in the herd; 18Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, and I will joy in the God my Saviour. 19The LORD God is my strength, for he has made my feet like hinds' feet, and made me stand on my high places that I may sing his praise. 36 Habakkuk 3:1-19 1A prayer of Habak'kuk the prophet, according to Shigion'oth. 2O LORD, I have heard the report of thee, and thy work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years renew it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. 3God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. Selah

4His brightness was like the light, rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. 5Before him went pestilence, and plague followed close behind. 6He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered, the everlasting hills sank low. His ways were as of old. 7I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; the curtains of the land of Mid'ian did tremble. 8Was thy wrath against the rivers, O LORD? Was thy anger against the rivers, or thy indignation against the sea, when thou didst ride upon thy horses, upon thy chariot of victory? 9Thou didst strip the sheath from thy bow, and put the arrows to the string. Selah

Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. 10The mountains saw thee, and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice, it lifted its hands on high. 11The sun and moon stood still in their habitation at the light of thine arrows as they sped, at the flash of thy glittering spear. 12Thou didst bestride the earth in fury, thou didst trample the nations in anger. 13Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, for the salvation of thy anointed. Thou didst crush the head of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah 14Thou didst pierce with thy shafts the head of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter me, rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret. 15Thou didst trample the sea with thy horses, the surging of mighty waters.

16I hear, and my body trembles, my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones, my steps totter beneath me. I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us.

17Though the fig tree do not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. 19GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like hinds' feet, he makes me tread upon my high places. 36 Habakkuk 3:1-19 1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth. 2LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. 3God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. 4His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. 5Plague went before him; pestilence followed his steps. 6He stood, and shook the earth; he looked, and made the nations tremble. The ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills collapsed. His ways are eternal. 7I saw the tents of Cushan in distress, the dwellings of Midian in anguish. 8Were you angry with the rivers, O LORD? Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea when you rode with your horses and your victorious chariots? 9You uncovered your bow, you called for many arrows. Selah You split the earth with rivers; 10the mountains saw you and writhed. Torrents of water swept by; the deep roared and lifted its waves on high. 11Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of your flying arrows, at the lightning of your flashing spear. 12In wrath you strode through the earth and in anger you threshed the nations. 13You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to foot. Selah 14With his own spear you pierced his head when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though about to devour the wretched who were in hiding. 15You trampled the sea with your horses, churning the great waters. 16I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. 17Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.(NIV)
