29 Proverbs of Solomon 18:1-24 1Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom. 2A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. 3When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach. 4The words of a mans mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. 5It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment. 6A fools lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. 7A fools mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. 8The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. 9He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. 10The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. 11The rich mans wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. 12Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. 13He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. 14The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? 15The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. 16A mans gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. 17He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. 18The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. 19A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle. 20A mans belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 21Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. 22Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. 23The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly. 24A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.(KJV)

But only that his heart may reveal itself.

And with ignominy cometh reproach.

4The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters;

The wellspring of wisdom is as a flowing brook.

5To respect the person of the wicked is not good,

Nor to turn aside the righteous in judgment.

And his mouth calleth for stripes.

7A fool's mouth is his destruction,

Is brother to him that is a destroyer.

The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

And as a high wall in his own imagination.

12Before destruction the heart of man is haughty;

And before honor goeth humility.

13He that giveth answer before he heareth,

It is folly and shame unto him.

14The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity;

But a broken spirit who can bear?

15The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge;

And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16A man's gift maketh room for him,

And bringeth him before great men.

17He that pleadeth his cause first seemeth just;

But his neighbor cometh and searcheth him out.

18The lot causeth contentions to cease,

And parteth between the mighty.

19A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city;

And such contentions are like the bars of a castle.

20A man's belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth;

With the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.

21Death and life are in the power of the tongue;

And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

22Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing,

And obtaineth favor of Jehovah.

23The poor useth entreaties;

But the rich answereth roughly.

29 Proverbs of Solomon 18:1-24 1He who is estranged seeks pretexts to break out against all sound judgment. 2A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. 3When wickedness comes, contempt comes also; and with dishonor comes disgrace. 4The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a gushing stream. 5It is not good to be partial to a wicked man, or to deprive a righteous man of justice. 6A fool's lips bring strife, and his mouth invites a flogging. 7A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to himself. 8The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body. 9He who is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys. 10The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. 11A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall protecting him. 12Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility goes before honor. 13If one gives answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame. 14A man's spirit will endure sickness; but a broken spirit who can bear? 15An intelligent mind acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. 16A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men. 17He who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. 18The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between powerful contenders. 19A brother helped is like a strong city, but quarreling is like the bars of a castle. 20From the fruit of his mouth a man is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. 21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. 22He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the LORD. 23The poor use entreaties, but the rich answer roughly. 24There are friends who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. 29 Proverbs of Solomon 18:1-24 1An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment. 2A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions. 3When wickedness comes, so does contempt, and with shame comes disgrace. 4The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. 5It is not good to be partial to the wicked or to deprive the innocent of justice. 6A fool's lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating. 7A fool's mouth is his undoing, and his lips are a snare to his soul. 8The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts. 9One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys. 10The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. 11The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall. 12Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. 13He who answers before listening -- that is his folly and his shame. 14A man's spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? 15The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out. 16A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great. 17The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him. 18Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. 19An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel. 20From the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied. 21The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. 22He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. 23A poor man pleads for mercy, but a rich man answers harshly. 24A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.(NIV)
