27 Job 39:1-29

1Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
5Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
14Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19Hath thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

12Wilt thou confide in him, that he will bring home thy seed,

27 Job 39:1-29

1DO you know the time when wild goats bring forth in the steep rocks? Or can you watch the calving of hinds?
2Can you number the months that they fulfill, and know the time when they bring forth?
3And do you know when they kneel and bring forth their young ones?
4They bring up their young ones, until they grow up and are weaned.
5Who has left the wild ass to be free, and made him to escape the yoke?
6For he has made the plain his house, and the salt land his dwelling place.
7He scorns the multitude of cities, and is not afraid of the voice of rulers.
8The tops of mountains are his pasture, and he treads over every green thing.
9Will the unicorn be willing to serve you, or will he spend the night at your crib?
10Can you bind the yoke on the neck of the unicorn? Or will he harrow in a rugged place?
11Will you have confidence in him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him?
12Do you trust him, that he will winnow your threshing and gather your grain into the barn?
13¶ The ostrich rouses herself up haughtily; then she comes and makes her nest;
14But she leaves her eggs in the earth to be warmed on the ground.
15And because she has the feet of a bird, forgets that the wild beast may trample them.
16She multiplies her young ones, though they do not stay with her; although her labor is in vain, she has no fear:
17God has increased wisdom, but he has not given her a portion of it.
18She raises herself high like a palm tree; she laughs at the horse and his rider.
19¶ Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with armour?
20Can you make him move like the locust? Or can you make him afraid?
21He paws in the plain, and rejoices in the valley; he goes forth armed to the battle.
22He laughs at a pit, and is not frightened; neither does he turn back from the sword.
23The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the lance.
24He gallops with rage that makes the ground to tremble, nor does he fear the sound of the trumpet.
25He makes the sound, Aha, aha; and he smells the battle from afar; he terrifies the officers with his neighing.
26¶ Is it by your wisdom that the hawk was created and wings his way toward the south?
27Does the eagle soar at your command, and make his nest in steep rocks?
28He dwells and lodges on the rock, upon the cliff of the precipice.
29He is sustained by his prey, his eyes behold afar off.

27 Job 39:1-29

1"Do you know when the mountain goats bring forth? Do you observe the calving of the hinds?
2Can you number the months that they fulfil, and do you know the time when they bring forth,
3when they crouch, bring forth their offspring, and are delivered of their young?
4Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open; they go forth, and do not return to them.
5"Who has let the wild ass go free? Who has loosed the bonds of the swift ass,
6to whom I have given the steppe for his home, and the salt land for his dwelling place?
7He scorns the tumult of the city; he hears not the shouts of the driver.
8He ranges the mountains as his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.
9"Is the wild ox willing to serve you? Will he spend the night at your crib?
10Can you bind him in the furrow with ropes, or will he harrow the valleys after you?
11Will you depend on him because his strength is great, and will you leave to him your labor?
12Do you have faith in him that he will return, and bring your grain to your threshing floor?
13"The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; but are they the pinions and plumage of love?
14For she leaves her eggs to the earth, and lets them be warmed on the ground,
15forgetting that a foot may crush them, and that the wild beast may trample them.
16She deals cruelly with her young, as if they were not hers; though her labor be in vain, yet she has no fear;
17because God has made her forget wisdom, and given her no share in understanding.
18When she rouses herself to flee, she laughs at the horse and his rider.
19"Do you give the horse his might? Do you clothe his neck with strength?
20Do you make him leap like the locust? His majestic snorting is terrible.
21He paws in the valley, and exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weapons.
22He laughs at fear, and is not dismayed; he does not turn back from the sword.
23Upon him rattle the quiver, the flashing spear and the javelin.
24With fierceness and rage he swallows the ground; he cannot stand still at the sound of the trumpet.
25When the trumpet sounds, he says `trumpet sounds, he says "Aha!' He smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26"Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and spreads his wings toward the south?
27Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up and makes his nest on high?
28On the rock he dwells and makes his home in the fastness of the rocky crag.
29Thence he spies out the prey; his eyes behold it afar off.

27 Job 39:1-29

1"Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Do you watch when the doe bears her fawn?
2Do you count the months till they bear? Do you know the time they give birth?
3They crouch down and bring forth their young; their labor pains are ended.
4Their young thrive and grow strong in the wilds; they leave and do not return.
5"Who let the wild donkey go free? Who untied his ropes?
6I gave him the wasteland as his home, the salt flats as his habitat.
7He laughs at the commotion in the town; he does not hear a driver's shout.
8He ranges the hills for his pasture and searches for any green thing.
9"Will the wild ox consent to serve you? Will he stay by your manger at night?
10Can you hold him to the furrow with a harness? Will he till the valleys behind you?
11Will you rely on him for his great strength? Will you leave your heavy work to him?
12Can you trust him to bring in your grain and gather it to your threshing floor?
13"The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully, but they cannot compare with the pinions and feathers of the stork.
14She lays her eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand,
15unmindful that a foot may crush them, that some wild animal may trample them.
16She treats her young harshly, as if they were not hers; she cares not that her labor was in vain,
17for God did not endow her with wisdom or give her a share of good sense.
18Yet when she spreads her feathers to run, she laughs at horse and rider.
19"Do you give the horse his strength or clothe his neck with a flowing mane?
20Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting?
21He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray.
22He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; he does not shy away from the sword.
23The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance.
24In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.
25At the blast of the trumpet he snorts, `Aha!' He catches the scent of battle from afar, the shout of commanders and the battle cry.
26"Does the hawk take flight by your wisdom and spread his wings toward the south?
27Does the eagle soar at your command and build his nest on high?
28He dwells on a cliff and stays there at night; a rocky crag is his stronghold.
29From there he seeks out his food; his eyes detect it from afar.

28He lives and lodges on the rock, on the cliff of the precipice.
29He is sustained by his prey, his eyes see far away.
