27 Job 38:1-41 ¹וַיַּֽעַן־ יְהוָ֣ה אֶת־ אִ֭יּוֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ ²מִ֤י זֶ֨ה׀ מַחְשִׁ֖יךְ עֵצָ֥ה בְמִלִּ֗ין בְּֽלִי־ דָֽעַת׃ ³אֱזָר־ נָ֣א כְגֶ֣בֶר חֲלָצֶ֑יךָ וְ֝אֶשְׁאָלְךָ֗ וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ ⁴אֵיפֹ֣ה הָ֭יִיתָ בְּיָסְדִי־ אָ֑רֶץ הַ֝גֵּ֗ד אִם־ יָדַ֥עְתָּ בִינָֽה׃ ⁵מִי־ שָׂ֣ם מְ֭מַדֶּיהָ כִּ֣י תֵדָ֑ע א֤וֹ מִֽי־ נָטָ֖ה עָלֶ֣יהָ קָּֽו׃ ⁶עַל־ מָ֭ה אֲדָנֶ֣יהָ הָטְבָּ֑עוּ א֥וֹ מִֽי־ יָ֝רָ֗ה אֶ֣בֶן פִּנָּתָֽהּ׃ ⁷בְּרָן־ יַ֭חַד כּ֣וֹכְבֵי בֹ֑קֶר וַ֝יָּרִ֗יעוּ כָּל־ בְּנֵ֥י אֱלֹהִֽים׃ ⁸וַיָּ֣סֶךְ בִּדְלָתַ֣יִם יָ֑ם בְּ֝גִיח֗וֹ מֵרֶ֥חֶם יֵצֵֽא׃ ⁹בְּשׂוּמִ֣י עָנָ֣ן לְבֻשׁ֑וֹ וַ֝עֲרָפֶ֗ל חֲתֻלָּתֽוֹ׃ ¹⁰וָאֶשְׁבֹּ֣ר עָלָ֣יו חֻקִּ֑י וָֽ֝אָשִׂ֗ים בְּרִ֣יחַ וּדְלָתָֽיִם׃ ¹¹וָאֹמַ֗ר עַד־ פֹּ֣ה תָ֭בוֹא וְלֹ֣א תֹסִ֑יף וּפֹ֥א־ יָ֝שִׁ֗ית בִּגְא֥וֹן גַּלֶּֽיךָ׃ ¹²הְֽ֭מִיָּמֶיךָ צִוִּ֣יתָ בֹּ֑קֶר מְקֹמֽוֹ׃ ¹³לֶ֭אֱחֹז בְּכַנְפ֣וֹת הָאָ֑רֶץ וְיִנָּעֲר֖וּ רְשָׁעִ֣ים מִמֶּֽנָּה׃ ¹⁴תִּ֭תְהַפֵּךְ כְּחֹ֣מֶר חוֹתָ֑ם וְ֝יִֽתְיַצְּב֗וּ כְּמ֣וֹ לְבֽוּשׁ׃ ¹⁵וְיִמָּנַ֣ע מֵרְשָׁעִ֣ים אוֹרָ֑ם וּזְר֥וֹעַ רָ֝מָ֗ה תִּשָּׁבֵֽר׃ ¹⁶הֲ֭בָאתָ עַד־ נִבְכֵי־ יָ֑ם וּבְחֵ֥קֶר תְּ֝ה֗וֹם הִתְהַלָּֽכְתָּ׃ ¹⁷הֲנִגְל֣וּ לְ֭ךָ שַׁעֲרֵי־ מָ֑וֶת וְשַׁעֲרֵ֖י צַלְמָ֣וֶת תִּרְאֶֽה׃ ¹⁸הִ֭תְבֹּנַנְתָּ עַד־ רַחֲבֵי־ אָ֑רֶץ הַ֝גֵּ֗ד אִם־ יָדַ֥עְתָּ כֻלָּֽהּ׃ ¹⁹אֵי־ זֶ֣ה הַ֭דֶּרֶךְ יִשְׁכָּן־ א֑וֹר וְ֝חֹ֗שֶׁךְ אֵי־ זֶ֥ה מְקֹמֽוֹ׃ ²⁰כִּ֣י תִ֭קָּחֶנּוּ אֶל־ גְּבוּל֑וֹ וְכִֽי־ תָ֝בִ֗ין נְתִיב֥וֹת בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ ²¹יָ֭דַעְתָּ כִּי־ אָ֣ז תִּוָּלֵ֑ד וּמִסְפַּ֖ר יָמֶ֣יךָ רַבִּֽים׃ ²²הֲ֭בָאתָ אֶל־ אֹצְר֣וֹת שָׁ֑לֶג וְאֹצְר֖וֹת בָּרָ֣ד תִּרְאֶֽה׃ ²³אֲשֶׁר־ חָשַׂ֥כְתִּי לְעֶת־ צָ֑ר לְי֥וֹם קְ֝רָ֗ב וּמִלְחָמָֽה׃ ²⁴אֵי־ זֶ֣ה הַ֭דֶּרֶךְ יֵחָ֣לֶק א֑וֹר יָפֵ֖ץ קָדִ֣ים עֲלֵי־ אָֽרֶץ׃ ²⁵מִֽי־ פִלַּ֣ג לַשֶּׁ֣טֶף תְּעָלָ֑ה וְ֝דֶ֗רֶךְ לַחֲזִ֥יז קֹלֽוֹת׃ ²⁶לְ֭הַמְטִיר עַל־ אֶ֣רֶץ לֹא־ אִ֑ישׁ מִ֝דְבָּ֗ר לֹא־ אָדָ֥ם בּֽוֹ׃ ²⁷לְהַשְׂבִּ֣יעַ שֹׁ֖אָה וּמְשֹׁאָ֑ה וּ֝לְהַצְמִ֗יחַ מֹ֣צָא דֶֽשֶׁא׃ ²⁸הֲיֵשׁ־ לַמָּטָ֥ר אָ֑ב א֥וֹ מִי־ ה֝וֹלִ֗יד אֶגְלֵי־ טָֽל׃ ²⁹מִבֶּ֣טֶן מִ֭י יָצָ֣א הַקָּ֑רַח וּכְפֹ֥ר שָׁ֝מַיִם מִ֣י יְלָדֽוֹ׃ ³⁰כָּ֭אֶבֶן מַ֣יִם יִתְחַבָּ֑אוּ וּפְנֵ֥י תְ֝ה֗וֹם יִתְלַכָּֽדוּ׃ ³¹הַֽ֭תְקַשֵּׁר מַעֲדַנּ֣וֹת כִּימָ֑ה אֽוֹ־ מֹשְׁכ֖וֹת כְּסִ֣יל תְּפַתֵּֽחַ׃ ³²הֲתֹצִ֣יא מַזָּר֣וֹת בְּעִתּ֑וֹ וְ֝עַ֗יִשׁ עַל־ בָּנֶ֥יהָ תַנְחֵֽם׃ ³³הֲ֭יָדַעְתָּ חֻקּ֣וֹת שָׁמָ֑יִם אִם־ תָּשִׂ֖ים מִשְׁטָר֣וֹ בָאָֽרֶץ׃ ³⁴הֲתָרִ֣ים לָעָ֣ב קוֹלֶ֑ךָ וְֽשִׁפְעַת־ מַ֥יִם תְּכַסֶּֽךָּ׃ ³⁵הַֽתְשַׁלַּ֣ח בְּרָקִ֣ים וְיֵלֵ֑כוּ וְיֹאמְר֖וּ לְךָ֣ הִנֵּֽנוּ׃ ³⁶מִי־ שָׁ֭ת בַּטֻּח֣וֹת חָכְמָ֑ה א֤וֹ מִֽי־ נָתַ֖ן לַשֶּׂ֣כְוִי בִינָֽה׃ ³⁷מִֽי־ יְסַפֵּ֣ר שְׁחָקִ֣ים בְּחָכְמָ֑ה וְנִבְלֵ֥י שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם מִ֣י יַשְׁכִּֽיב׃ ³⁸בְּצֶ֣קֶת עָ֭פָר לַמּוּצָ֑ק וּרְגָבִ֥ים יְדֻבָּֽקוּ׃ ³⁹הֲתָצ֣וּד לְלָבִ֣יא טָ֑רֶף וְחַיַּ֖ת כְּפִירִ֣ים תְּמַלֵּֽא׃ ⁴⁰כִּי־ יָשֹׁ֥חוּ בַמְּעוֹנ֑וֹת יֵשְׁב֖וּ בַסֻּכָּ֣ה לְמוֹ־ אָֽרֶב׃ ⁴¹מִ֤י יָכִ֥ין לָעֹרֵ֗ב צֵ֫יד֥וֹ כִּֽי־ אֶל־ אֵ֣ל יְשַׁוֵּ֑עוּ יִ֝תְע֗וּ לִבְלִי־ אֹֽכֶל׃ (WLC)

27 Job 38:1

27 Job 38:1-41 ¹Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ²Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? ³Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. ⁴Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. ⁵Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? ⁶Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; ⁷When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? ⁸Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? ⁹When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, ¹⁰And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, ¹¹And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed? ¹²Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place; ¹³That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? ¹⁴It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment. ¹⁵And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken. ¹⁶Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? ¹⁷Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? ¹⁸Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all. ¹⁹Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, ²⁰That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof? ²¹Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great? ²²Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, ²³Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? ²⁴By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth? ²⁵Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; ²⁶To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; ²⁷To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? ²⁸Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew? ²⁹Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? ³⁰The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. ³¹Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? ³²Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? ³³Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? ³⁴Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee? ³⁵Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are? ³⁶Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart? ³⁷Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven, ³⁸When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together? ³⁹Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions, ⁴⁰When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait? ⁴¹Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.(KJV)

²Who is this that darkeneth counsel

By words without knowledge?

³Gird up now thy loins like a man;

For I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

⁴Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?

Declare, if thou hast understanding.

⁵Who determined the measures thereof, if thou knowest?

Or who stretched the line upon it?

⁶Whereupon were the foundations thereof fastened?

Or who laid the corner-stone thereof,

⁷When the morning stars sang together,

And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

⁸Or who shut up the sea with doors,

When it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb;

⁹When I made clouds the garment thereof,

And thick darkness a swaddling-band for it,

¹⁰And marked out for it my bound,

And set bars and doors,

¹¹And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further;

And here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

¹²Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days began,

And caused the dayspring to know its place;

¹³That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,

And the wicked be shaken out of it?

¹⁴It is changed as clay under the seal;

And all things stand forth as a garment:

¹⁵And from the wicked their light is withholden,

And the high arm is broken.

¹⁶Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea?

Or hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?

¹⁷Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee?

Or hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?

¹⁸Hast thou comprehended the earth in its breadth?

Declare, if thou knowest it all.

¹⁹Where is the way to the dwelling of light?

And as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

²⁰That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof,

And that thou shouldest discern the paths to the house thereof?

²¹Doubtless, thou knowest, for thou wast then born,

And the number of thy days is great!

²²Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow,

Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

²³Which I have reserved against the time of trouble,

Against the day of battle and war?

²⁴By what way is the light parted,

Or the east wind scattered upon the earth?

²⁵Who hath cleft a channel for the waterflood,

Or the way for the lightning of the thunder;

²⁶To cause it to rain on a land where no man is;

On the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

²⁷To satisfy the waste and desolate ground,

And to cause the tender grass to spring forth?

²⁸Hath the rain a father?

Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

²⁹Out of whose womb came the ice?

And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

³⁰The waters hide themselves and become like stone,

And the face of the deep is frozen.

³¹Canst thou bind the cluster of the Pleiades,

Or loose the bands of Orion?

³²Canst thou lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season?

Or canst thou guide the Bear with her train?

³³Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens?

Canst thou establish the dominion thereof in the earth?

³⁴Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds,

That abundance of waters may cover thee?

³⁵Canst thou send forth lightnings, that they may go,

And say unto thee, Here we are?

³⁶Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts?

Or who hath given understanding to the mind?

³⁷Who can number the clouds by wisdom?

Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,

³⁸When the dust runneth into a mass,

And the clods cleave fast together?

³⁹Canst thou hunt the prey for the lioness,

Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

⁴⁰When they couch in their dens,

And abide in the covert to lie in wait?

⁴¹Who provideth for the raven his prey,(ASV)

27 Job 38:1-41 ¹THEN the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ²Who is this that gives counsel by words without knowledge? ³Gird up your loins now, like a valiant man; for I will question you, and you shall answer me.

⁴¶ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. ⁵Who has laid its measures, if you know? Or who has stretched the line upon it? ⁶Upon what are its limits resting? Or who laid the cornerstone thereof? ⁷When did I create the morning stars, and all the angels shouted for joy? ⁸Or who shut up the sea with gates, when it broke forth as if it had issued out of the womb? ⁹When I made the cloud the garment of the earth, and thick darkness a swaddling hand for it, ¹⁰And prescribed limits for it, and set bars and doors, ¹¹And said, Thus far shall you come, but no farther; and here shall your proud waves be stayed?

¹²¶ Have you commanded the dawn since your days began; or do you know the place of the morning; ¹³That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be thrown out of it? ¹⁴So that their bodies shall be turned into clay, and be thrown into a heap. ¹⁵The light of sinners shall be withheld, and the arm of the arrogant shall be broken. ¹⁶Have you entered into the depths of the sea? Or have you walked in the foundations of the deep? ¹⁷Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death? ¹⁸Have you seen the whole breadth of the earth? Declare to me if you know it all. ¹⁹Where is the dwelling place of light, and where is the place of darkness? ²⁰Do you know its borders and the path to its house? ²¹Do you remember when you were born, and do you know if you will live many days? ²²Have you entered into the chambers of the snow? Or have you seen the storehouses of hail, ²³Which are reserved against the time of distress, against the day of battle and war? ²⁴Or in what manner is light distributed, and whence the wind comes forth upon the earth?

²⁵¶ Who causes a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder? ²⁶Who causes it to rain on a land where no man is, in the wilderness where there is no inhabitant, ²⁷To saturate every thicket, and cause the tender grass to spring up? ²⁸Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? ²⁹Out of whose womb did the dew and ice come forth? And who begot the hoary frost of heaven? ³⁰The waters are hardened like a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. ³¹Can you stop the movement of the Pleiades, or have you seen the path of Orion? ³²Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you stand in the paths of Aldebaran? ³³Do you know the laws of the heavens? Or do you make ordinances for the earth? ³⁴Can you lift up your voice to the clouds? Or can you cover them with abundance of waters? ³⁵Can you send forth the lightnings, that they may go, and say to you. Here we are? ³⁶Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given vision to understanding? ³⁷Who has numbered the clouds by his wisdom? And who has raised the pillars of heaven? ³⁸Who has poured out soil upon the earth, and who has made the steep rocks? ³⁹Who has given prey for the lion? Or filled the appetite of the young lions? ⁴⁰Who has multiplied the beasts in the field? Or who has provided food for the raven? ⁴¹For its young ones cry to God, and faint for lack of food. (LAM)

Tell me, if you have understanding. ⁵Who determined its measurements--surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? ⁶On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, ⁷when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? ⁸"Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth from the womb; ⁹when I made clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, ¹⁰and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors, ¹¹and said, `d said, "Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed'? <sup>12</sup>"Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, <sup>13</sup>that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it? <sup>14</sup>It is changed like clay under the seal, and it is dyed like a garment. <sup>15</sup>From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken. <sup>16</sup>"Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep? <sup>17</sup>Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? <sup>18</sup>Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this. <sup>19</sup>"Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of darkness, <sup>20</sup>that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home? <sup>21</sup>You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great! <sup>22</sup>"Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, <sup>23</sup>which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? <sup>24</sup>What is the way to the place where the light is distributed, or where the east wind is scattered upon the earth? <sup>25</sup>"Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain, and a way for the thunderbolt, <sup>26</sup>to bring rain on a land where no man is, on the desert in which there is no man; <sup>27</sup>to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the ground put forth grass? <sup>28</sup>"Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew? <sup>29</sup>From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who has given birth to the hoarfrost of heaven? <sup>30</sup>The waters become hard like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. <sup>31</sup>"Can you bind the chains of the Plei'ades, or loose the cords of Orion? <sup>32</sup>Can you lead forth the Maz'zaroth in their season, or can you guide the Bear with its children? <sup>33</sup>Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? He said: ²"Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge? ³Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. ⁴"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. ⁵Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
