13 Isaiah 38:1-22 1In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. 2Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, 3And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, 5Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 6And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city. 7And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken; 8Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

9The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness: 10I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. 12Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherds tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 13I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 14Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me. 15What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. 17Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. 21For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?(KJV)

13 Isaiah 38:1-22 1In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. 9The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness.

10I said, In the noontide of my days I shall go into the gates of Sheol:

I am deprived of the residue of my years.

11I said, I shall not see Jehovah, even Jehovah in the land of the living:

I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me as a shepherd's tent:

I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life; he will cut me off from the loom:

From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

13I quieted myself until morning; as a lion, so he breaketh all my bones:

From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

14Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chatter;

I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail with looking upward:

O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety.

15What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it:

I shall go softly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul.

16O Lord, by these things men live;

And wholly therein is the life of my spirit:

Wherefore recover thou me, and make me to live.

17Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness:

But thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption;

For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

18For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee:

They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

19The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day:

The father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20Jehovah is ready to save me:

Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments

All the days of our life in the house of Jehovah.

21Now Isaiah had said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of Jehovah?(ASV)

13 Isaiah 38:1-22 1IN those days Hezekiah became deathly sick, and Isaiah, the prophet, the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Thus says the LORD: Set your house in order; for you shall die, and not live. 2Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying, 3Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, 5Go and say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your days. 6And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7And this shall be a sign to you from the LORD that the LORD will do this thing that he has spoken: 8Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down on the sundial of Ahaz your father, ten degrees backward. So the shadow of the sun returned the ten degrees by which it had gone down.

9¶ The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and was recovered of his sickness: 10I said, In the midst of my days I shall die, at the gates of Sheol I am deprived of the rest of my years. 11I said, I shall not see the LORD in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more among the inhabitants of the world. 12My age is departed and removed from me as a shepherd's tent; my life has shrunk like a shoelace and as a weaver's web which is nearly ready to be cut off; from morning even to night thou hast delivered me to my fate. 13Like a swallow twittering, so did I chatter; I did mourn like a dove; I have lifted my eyes on high; O LORD, deliver me and comfort me. 14What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it, and has caused my sleep to flee because of the bitterness of my soul; 15When the LORD is against men, shall they live? But because of the life of my spirit, heal me and make me to live. 16Behold, it was for peace that I had great bitterness; but thou hast been pleased with my soul, that it may not waste in corruption; for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 17For Sheol cannot thank thee, death cannot praise thee; those that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 18But the living shall give thanks to thee, as I do this day; the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 19The LORD shall save us; therefore we will sing his songs all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. 20And Hezekiah said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD? 21And Isaiah said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it as a plaster upon the boil and he shall recover, 22 (LAM)

13 Isaiah 38:1-22 1In those days Hezeki'ah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD: Set your house in order; for you shall die, you shall not recover." 2Then Hezeki'ah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the LORD, 3and said, "Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in thy sight." And Hezeki'ah wept bitterly. 4Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah: 5"Go and say to Hezeki'ah, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. 6I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and defend this city.

7"This is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he has promised: 8Behold, I will make the shadow cast by the declining sun on the dial of Ahaz turn back ten steps." So the sun turned back on the dial the ten steps by which it had declined.

9A writing of Hezeki'ah king of Judah, after he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness: 10I said, In the noontide of my days I must depart; I am consigned to the gates of Sheol for the rest of my years. 11I said, I shall not see the LORD in the land of the living; I shall look upon man no more among the inhabitants of the world. 12My dwelling is plucked up and removed from me like a shepherd's tent; like a weaver I have rolled up my life; he cuts me off from the loom; from day to night thou dost bring me to an end; 13I cry for help until morning; like a lion he breaks all my bones; from day to night thou dost bring me to an end.

14Like a swallow or a crane I clamor, I moan like a dove. My eyes are weary with looking upward. O Lord, I am oppressed; be thou my security! 15But what can I say? For he has spoken to me, and he himself has done it. All my sleep has fled because of the bitterness of my soul. 16O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these is the life of my spirit. Oh, restore me to health and make me live! 17Lo, it was for my welfare that I had great bitterness; but thou hast held back my life from the pit of destruction, for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18For Sheol cannot thank thee, death cannot praise thee; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for thy faithfulness. 19The living, the living, he thanks thee, as I do this day; the father makes known to the children thy faithfulness.

20The LORD will save me, and we will sing to stringed instruments all the days of our life, at the house of the LORD.

21Now Isaiah had said, "Let them take a cake of figs, and apply it to the boil, that he may recover." 22Hezeki'ah also had said, "What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?"(RSV)

13 Isaiah 38:1-22 1In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, "This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover."

2Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, 3"Remember, O LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah: 5"Go and tell Hezekiah, `This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. 6And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.

7"`This is the LORD's sign to you that the LORD will do what he has promised: 8I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.'" So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down.

9A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery: 10I said, "In the prime of my life must I go through the gates of death and be robbed of the rest of my years?" 11I said, "I will not again see the LORD, the LORD, in the land of the living; no longer will I look on mankind, or be with those who now dwell in this world. 12Like a shepherd's tent my house has been pulled down and taken from me. Like a weaver I have rolled up my life, and he has cut me off from the loom; day and night you made an end of me. 13I waited patiently till dawn, but like a lion he broke all my bones; day and night you made an end of me. 14I cried like a swift or thrush, I moaned like a mourning dove. My eyes grew weak as I looked to the heavens. I am troubled; O Lord, come to my aid!" 15But what can I say? He has spoken to me, and he himself has done this. I will walk humbly all my years because of this anguish of my soul. 16Lord, by such things men live; and my spirit finds life in them too. You restored me to health and let me live. 17Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back. 18For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. 19The living, the living -- they praise you, as I am doing today; fathers tell their children about your faithfulness. 20The LORD will save me, and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the temple of the LORD.

21Isaiah had said, "Prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover."

22Hezekiah had asked, "What will be the sign that I will go up to the temple of the LORD?"(NIV)

19The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do this day.
The father shall make known your truth to the children.

20The LORD will save me.
Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.

21Now Isaiah had said, 'Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.' 22Hezekiah also had said, 'What is the sign that I will go up to the house of the LORD?'(WEB/HNV)

13 Isaiah 38:1-22 1IN those days Hezekiah became deathly sick, and Isaiah, the prophet, the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Thus says Yahvah, Set your house in order; for you will die, and not live. 2Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to Yahvah, saying, 3Remember now, oh Yahvah, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4Then the word of Yahvah came to Isaiah, saying, 5Go and say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, Thus says Yahvah, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; look, I will add 15 years to your days. 6And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7And this will be a sign to you from Yahvah that Yahvah will do this thing that he has spoken: 8Look, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down on the sundial of Ahaz your father, 10 degrees backward. So the shadow of the sun returned the 10 degrees by which it had gone down.

9The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and was recovered of his sickness: 10I said, In the middle of my days I will die, at the gates of Sheol I am deprived of the rest of my years. 11I said, I will not see Yahvah in the land of the living; I will not see man among the inhabitants of the world any longer. 12My age is departed and removed from me as a shepherd's tent; my life has shrunk like a shoelace and as a weaver's web which is nearly ready to be cut off; from morning even to night you have delivered me to my fate. 13I waited patiently till dawn, but like a lion he broke all my bones; day and night you made an end of me. 14Like a swallow twittering, so I chattered; I mourned like a dove; I have lifted my eyes on high; oh Lord, deliver me and comfort me. 15What will I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it, and has caused my sleep to flee because of the bitterness of my soul; 16When the Lord is against men, will they live? But because of the life of my spirit, heal me and make me to live. 17Look, it was for peace that I had great bitterness; but you have been pleased with my soul, that it may not waste in corruption; for you have cast all my sins behind your back. 18For Sheol cannot thank you, death cannot praise you; those who go down into the pit cannot hope for your truth. 19But the living will give thanks to you, as I do this day; the father to the children will make known your truth. 20Yahvah will save us; therefore we will sing his songs all the days of our life in the house of Yahvah. 21And Isaiah said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it as a plaster on the boil and he will recover. 22Because Hezekiah had said, What is the sign that I will go up to the temple of Yahvah?
