13 Isaiah 33:1-24 ¹ה֣וֹי שׁוֹדֵ֗ד וְאַתָּה֙ לֹ֣א שָׁד֔וּד וּבוֹגֵ֖ד וְלֹא־ בָ֣גְדוּ ב֑וֹ כַּהֲתִֽמְךָ֤ שׁוֹדֵד֙ תּוּשַּׁ֔ד כַּנְּלֹתְךָ֥ לִבְגֹּ֖ד יִבְגְּדוּ־ בָֽךְ׃

²יְהוָ֥ה חָנֵּ֖נוּ לְךָ֣ קִוִּ֑ינוּ הֱיֵ֤ה זְרֹעָם֙ לַבְּקָרִ֔ים אַף־ יְשׁוּעָתֵ֖נוּ בְּעֵ֥ת צָרָֽה׃ ³מִקּ֣וֹל הָמ֔וֹן נָדְד֖וּ עַמִּ֑ים מֵר֣וֹמְמֻתֶ֔ךָ נָפְצ֖וּ גּוֹיִֽם׃ ⁴וְאֻסַּ֣ף שְׁלַלְכֶ֔ם אֹ֖סֶף הֶֽחָסִ֑יל כְּמַשַּׁ֥ק גֵּבִ֖ים שׁוֹקֵ֥ק בּֽוֹ׃ ⁵נִשְׂגָּ֣ב יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י שֹׁכֵ֖ן מָר֑וֹם מִלֵּ֣א צִיּ֔וֹן מִשְׁפָּ֖ט וּצְדָקָֽה׃ ⁶וְהָיָה֙ אֱמוּנַ֣ת עִתֶּ֔יךָ חֹ֥סֶן יְשׁוּעֹ֖ת חָכְמַ֣ת וָדָ֑עַת יִרְאַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה הִ֥יא אוֹצָרֽוֹ׃

⁷הֵ֚ן אֶרְאֶלָּ֔ם צָעֲק֖וּ חֻ֑צָה מַלְאֲכֵ֣י שָׁל֔וֹם מַ֖ר יִבְכָּיֽוּן׃ ⁸נָשַׁ֣מּוּ מְסִלּ֔וֹת שָׁבַ֖ת עֹבֵ֣ר אֹ֑רַח הֵפֵ֤ר בְּרִית֙ מָאַ֣ס עָרִ֔ים לֹ֥א חָשַׁ֖ב אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ ⁹אָבַ֤ל אֻמְלְלָה֙ אָ֔רֶץ הֶחְפִּ֥יר לְבָנ֖וֹן קָמַ֑ל הָיָ֤ה הַשָּׁרוֹן֙ כָּֽעֲרָבָ֔ה וְנֹעֵ֥ר בָּשָׁ֖ן וְכַרְמֶֽל׃ ¹⁰עַתָּ֥ה אָק֖וּם יֹאמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה עַתָּה֙ אֵֽרוֹמָ֔ם עַתָּ֖ה אֶנָּשֵֽׂא׃ ¹¹תַּהֲר֥וּ חֲשַׁ֖שׁ תֵּ֣לְדוּ קַ֑שׁ רוּחֲכֶ֕ם אֵ֖שׁ תֹּאכַלְכֶֽם׃ ¹²וְהָי֥וּ עַמִּ֖ים מִשְׂרְפ֣וֹת שִׂ֑יד קוֹצִ֥ים כְּסוּחִ֖ים בָּאֵ֥שׁ יִצַּֽתּוּ׃

¹³שִׁמְע֥וּ רְחוֹקִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֑יתִי וּדְע֥וּ קְרוֹבִ֖ים גְּבֻרָתִֽי׃ ¹⁴פָּחֲד֤וּ בְצִיּוֹן֙ חַטָּאִ֔ים אָחֲזָ֥ה רְעָדָ֖ה חֲנֵפִ֑ים מִ֣י׀ יָג֣וּר לָ֗נוּ אֵ֚שׁ אוֹכֵלָ֔ה מִי־ יָג֥וּר לָ֖נוּ מוֹקְדֵ֥י עוֹלָֽם׃ ¹⁵הֹלֵ֣ךְ צְדָק֔וֹת וְדֹבֵ֖ר מֵֽישָׁרִ֑ים מֹאֵ֞ס בְּבֶ֣צַע מַעֲשַׁקּ֗וֹת נֹעֵ֤ר כַּפָּיו֙ מִתְּמֹ֣ךְ בַּשֹּׁ֔חַד אֹטֵ֤ם אָזְנוֹ֙ מִשְּׁמֹ֣עַ דָּמִ֔ים וְעֹצֵ֥ם עֵינָ֖יו מֵרְא֥וֹת בְּרָֽע׃ ¹⁶ה֚וּא מְרוֹמִ֣ים יִשְׁכֹּ֔ן מְצָד֥וֹת סְלָעִ֖ים מִשְׂגַּבּ֑וֹ לַחְמ֣וֹ נִתָּ֔ן מֵימָ֖יו נֶאֱמָנִֽים׃ ¹⁷מֶ֥לֶךְ בְּיָפְי֖וֹ תֶּחֱזֶ֣ינָה עֵינֶ֑יךָ תִּרְאֶ֖ינָה אֶ֥רֶץ מַרְחַקִּֽים׃ ¹⁸לִבְּךָ֖ יֶהְגֶּ֣ה אֵימָ֑ה אַיֵּ֤ה סֹפֵר֙ אַיֵּ֣ה שֹׁקֵ֔ל אַיֵּ֖ה סֹפֵ֥ר אֶת־ הַמִּגְדָּלִֽים׃ ¹⁹אֶת־ עַ֥ם נוֹעָ֖ז לֹ֣א תִרְאֶ֑ה עַ֣ם עִמְקֵ֤י שָׂפָה֙ מִשְּׁמ֔וֹעַ נִלְעַ֥ג לָשׁ֖וֹן אֵ֥ין בִּינָֽה׃ ²⁰חֲזֵ֣ה צִיּ֔וֹן קִרְיַ֖ת מֽוֹעֲדֵ֑נוּ עֵינֶיךָ֩ תִרְאֶ֨ינָה יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם נָוֶ֣ה שַׁאֲנָ֗ן אֹ֤הֶל בַּל־ יִצְעָן֙ בַּל־ יִסַּ֤ע יְתֵֽדֹתָיו֙ לָנֶ֔צַח וְכָל־ חֲבָלָ֖יו בַּל־ יִנָּתֵֽקוּ׃ ²¹כִּ֣י אִם־ שָׁ֞ם אַדִּ֤יר יְהוָה֙ לָ֔נוּ מְקוֹם־ נְהָרִ֥ים יְאֹרִ֖ים רַחֲבֵ֣י יָדָ֑יִם בַּל־ תֵּ֤לֶךְ בּוֹ֙ אֳנִי־ שַׁ֔יִט וְצִ֥י אַדִּ֖יר לֹ֥א יַעַבְרֶֽנּוּ׃ ²²כִּ֤י יְהוָה֙ שֹׁפְטֵ֔נוּ יְהוָ֖ה מְחֹקְקֵ֑נוּ יְהוָ֥ה מַלְכֵּ֖נוּ ה֥וּא יוֹשִׁיעֵֽנוּ׃ ²³נִטְּשׁ֖וּ חֲבָלָ֑יִךְ בַּל־ יְחַזְּק֤וּ כֵן־ תָּרְנָם֙ בַּל־ פָּ֣רְשׂוּ נֵ֔ס אָ֣ז חֻלַּ֤ק עַֽד־ שָׁלָל֙ מַרְבֶּ֔ה פִּסְחִ֖ים בָּ֥זְזוּ בַֽז׃ ²⁴וּבַל־ יֹאמַ֥ר שָׁכֵ֖ן חָלִ֑יתִי הָעָ֛ם הַיֹּשֵׁ֥ב בָּ֖הּ נְשֻׂ֥א עָוֹֽן׃ (WLC)

13 Isaiah 33:1

13 Isaiah 33:1-24 ¹Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. ²O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. ³At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. ⁴And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them. ⁵The LORD is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness. ⁶And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure. ⁷Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly. ⁸The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man. ⁹The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits. ¹⁰Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself. ¹¹Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you. ¹²And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.

¹³Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. ¹⁴The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? ¹⁵He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; ¹⁶He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. ¹⁷Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off. ¹⁸Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers? ¹⁹Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand. ²⁰Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. ²¹But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. ²²For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us. ²³Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey. ²⁴And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.(KJV)

When thou hast ceased to destroy, thou shalt be destroyed; and when thou hast made an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. ²O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou our arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. ³At the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations are scattered. ⁴And your spoil shall be gathered as the caterpillar gathereth: as locusts leap shall men leap upon it. ⁵Jehovah is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness. ⁶And there shall be stability in thy times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge: the fear of Jehovah is thy treasure. ⁷Behold, their valiant ones cry without; the ambassadors of peace weep bitterly. ⁸The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: the enemy hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth not man. ⁹The land mourneth and languisheth; Lebanon is confounded and withereth away; Sharon is like a desert; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves. ¹⁰Now will I arise, saith Jehovah; now will I lift up myself; now will I be exalted. ¹¹Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath is a fire that shall devour you. ¹²And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire. ¹³Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. ¹⁴The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath seized the godless ones: Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings? ¹⁵He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil: ¹⁶He shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks; his bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. ¹⁷Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold a land that reacheth afar. ¹⁸Thy heart shall muse on the terror: Where is he that counted, where is he that weighed the tribute? where is he that counted the towers? ¹⁹Thou shalt not see the fierce people, a people of a deep speech that thou canst not comprehend, of a strange tongue that thou canst not understand. ²⁰Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tent that shall not be removed, the stakes whereof shall never be plucked up, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. ²¹But there Jehovah will be with us in majesty, a place of broad rivers and streams, wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. ²²For Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah is our lawgiver, Jehovah is our king; he will save us. ²³Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not strengthen the foot of their mast, they could not spread the sail: then was the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame took the prey. ²⁴And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.(ASV)

13 Isaiah 33:1-24 ¹WOE to you that plunder, but you shall not plunder, and let no one deal treacherously among you; for when you seek to plunder, they will plunder you; and when you seek to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you. ²O LORD, be gracious to us; for in thee is our trust; be thou our helper every morning, our salvation also in the time of distress. ³At the noise of thy tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. ⁴Henceforth your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpillar; as a swarm of locusts when it is gathered together. ⁵The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. ⁶And faith shall be the stability of your times, and your salvation in a place of refuge; wisdom and knowledge and the reverence of the LORD is his treasure. ⁷If he should be seen by them they shall howl violently; the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly. ⁸The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceases, and the covenant is broken; the cities are despised, and there is no regard for man. ⁹The earth mourns and languishes; Lebanon is ashamed and confounded; Sharon has become like a desert plain; and Bashan and Carmel are desolate. ¹⁰Now I will arise, says the LORD; now I will be exalted; now I will lift up myself. ¹¹You shall conceive thorns, you shall bring forth stubble; your breath, as fire, shall devour you. ¹²And the peoples shall be as the burning of lime; as thorns that are gathered together shall they be burned in the fire.

¹³¶ Hear, you who are far off, what I have clone; and you who are near, acknowledge my might. ¹⁴The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the heathen. Who among us shall dwell with devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? ¹⁵He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly; he who despises treachery and oppression, who refuses to accept a bribe, who stops his ears that he may not hear of bloodshed, and shuts his eyes that he may not see evil. ¹⁶He shall dwell on high; his place of defense shall be the precipice of rocks; his bread shall be given him; his water shall be sure. ¹⁷Your eyes shall see the king in his beauty; they shall behold the lands that are far off. ¹⁸Your heart shall learn reverence. Where is the scribe? Where is the weigher? Where is he who counted towers for a mighty people? ¹⁹You shall not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech, of a stammering tongue, so that he cannot be understood. ²⁰Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities; your eyes shall see Jerusalem a rich habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be shaken to and fro; whose pegs shall never be removed, neither shall any of its cords be broken. ²¹For there the name of the LORD is glorious to us; he will be for us a place of light, an enlightenment, and an open space made by the hand; wherein the authority of a prince shall not reign, neither shall the mighty one be able to invade it. ²²For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; and he is our Saviour. ²³Your riggings are loosed; they could not well hold straight their mast, they could not spread the sail; until they have divided the prey, a multitude of lame shall take it. ²⁴And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick; the people who dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity. 13 Isaiah 33:1-24 ¹Woe to you, destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed; you treacherous one, with whom none has dealt treacherously! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have made an end of dealing treacherously, you will be dealt with treacherously.

²O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for thee. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble. ³At the thunderous noise peoples flee, at the lifting up of thyself nations are scattered; ⁴and spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers; as locusts leap, men leap upon it.

⁵The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness; ⁶and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

⁷Behold, the valiant ones cry without; the envoys of peace weep bitterly. ⁸The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceases. Covenants are broken, witnesses are despised, there is no regard for man. ⁹The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is confounded and withers away; Sharon is like a desert; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

¹⁰"Now I will arise," says the LORD, "now I will lift myself up; now I will be exalted. ¹¹You conceive chaff, you bring forth stubble; your breath is a fire that will consume you. ¹²And the peoples will be as if burned to lime, like thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire."

¹³Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge my might. ¹⁴The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: "Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?" ¹⁵He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil, ¹⁶he will dwell on the heights; his place of defense will be the fortresses of rocks; his bread will be given him, his water will be sure.

¹⁷Your eyes will see the king in his beauty; they will behold a land that stretches afar. ¹⁸Your mind will muse on the terror: "Where is he who counted, where is he who weighed the tribute? Where is he who counted the towers?" ¹⁹You will see no more the insolent people, the people of an obscure speech which you cannot comprehend, stammering in a tongue which you cannot understand. ²⁰Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts! Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet habitation, an immovable tent, whose stakes will never be plucked up, nor will any of its cords be broken. ²¹But there the LORD in majesty will be for us a place of broad rivers and streams, where no galley with oars can go, nor stately ship can pass. ²²For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our ruler, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

²³Your tackle hangs loose; it cannot hold the mast firm in its place, or keep the sail spread out.

Then prey and spoil in abundance will be divided; even the lame will take the prey. ²⁴And no inhabitant will say, "I am sick"; the people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.(RSV)

13 Isaiah 33:1-24 ¹Woe to you, O destroyer, you who have not been destroyed! Woe to you, O traitor, you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed. ²O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. ³At the thunder of your voice, the peoples flee; when you rise up, the nations scatter. ⁴Your plunder, O nations, is harvested as by young locusts; like a swarm of locusts men pounce on it. ⁵The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. ⁶He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure. ⁷Look, their brave men cry aloud in the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly. ⁸The highways are deserted, no travelers are on the roads. The treaty is broken, its witnesses are despised, no one is respected. ⁹The land mourns and wastes away, Lebanon is ashamed and withers; Sharon is like the Arabah, and Bashan and Carmel drop their leaves. ¹⁰"Now will I arise," says the LORD. "Now will I be exalted; now will I be lifted up. ¹¹You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that consumes you. ¹²The peoples will be burned as if to lime; like cut thornbushes they will be set ablaze." ¹³You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my power! ¹⁴The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him. ¹⁷Your eyes will see the king in his beauty and view a land that stretches afar. ¹⁸In your thoughts you will ponder the former terror: "Where is that chief officer? Where is the one who took the revenue? Where is the officer in charge of the towers?" ¹⁹You will see those arrogant people no more, those people of an obscure speech, with their strange, incomprehensible tongue. ²⁰Look upon Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. ²¹There the LORD will be our Mighty One. It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams. No galley with oars will ride them, no mighty ship will sail them. ²²For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us. ²³Your rigging hangs loose: The mast is not held secure, the sail is not spread. Where is the scribe? Where is the weigher? Where is he who counted towers for a mighty people? ¹⁹You will not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech, of a stammering tongue, so that he cannot be understood. ²⁰Look on Zion, the city of our solemnities; your eyes will see Jerusalem a rich habitation, a tabernacle that will not be shaken to and fro; whose pegs will never be removed, nor will any of its cords be broken. ²¹For there the name of Yahvah is glorious to us; he will be for us a place of light, an enlightenment, and an open space made by the hand; in which the authority of a prince will not reign, nor will the mighty one be able to invade it. ²²For Yahvah is our judge, Yahvah is our lawgiver, Yahvah is our king; and he is our Savior. ²³Your riggings are loosed; they could not well hold straight their mast, they could not spread the sail; until they have divided the prey, a multitude of lame will take it. ²⁴And the inhabitant will not say, I am sick; the people who live in it will be forgiven their iniquity.
