13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. 2And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. 3And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

4That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! 5The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. 6He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. 7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us. 9Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? 18All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. 20Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. 21Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. 22For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD. 23I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.

24The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: 25That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. 26This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. 27For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? 28In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.

29Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpents root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant. 31Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times. 32What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.(KJV)

13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1For Jehovah will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the sojourner shall join himself with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. 2And the peoples shall take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of Jehovah for servants and for handmaids: and they shall take them captive whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. 3And it shall come to pass in the day that Jehovah shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy trouble, and from the hard service wherein thou wast made to serve, 4that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! 5Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers; 6that smote the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, that ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained. 7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8Yea, the fir-trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid low, no hewer is come up against us. 9Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10All they shall answer and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11Thy pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and worms cover thee. 12How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, that didst lay low the nations! 13And thou saidst in thy heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; and I will sit upon the mount of congregation, in the uttermost parts of the north; 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. 15Yet thou shalt be brought down to Sheol, to the uttermost parts of the pit. 16They that see thee shall gaze at thee, they shall consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17that made the world as a wilderness, and overthrew the cities thereof; that let not loose his prisoners to their home? 18All the kings of the nations, all of them, sleep in glory, every one in his own house. 19But thou art cast forth away from thy sepulchre like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain, that are thrust through with the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a dead body trodden under foot. 20Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, thou hast slain thy people; the seed of evil-doers shall not be named for ever. 21Prepare ye slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers, that they rise not up, and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities. 22And I will rise up against them, saith Jehovah of hosts, and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son's son, saith Jehovah. 23I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Jehovah of hosts. 24Jehovah of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: 25that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulder. 26This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. 27For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? 28In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden. 29Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent's root shall come forth an adder, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain. 31Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou art melted away, O Philistia, all of thee; for there cometh a smoke out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks. 32What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of his people take refuge.(ASV)

13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1FOR the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and will set them in their own land; and strangers shall accompany them, and they shall add to the house of Jacob. 2And the Gentiles shall take them and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for men-servants and women-servants; and they shall take them captive, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. 3And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give you rest from your sorrow and from your anger and from the hard bondage wherein you were made to serve.

4¶ You shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the ruler ceased! the zealous one ceased! 5The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked and the sceptre of the rulers. 6He who smote the peoples in wrath, smiting without instruction, who chastised the peoples in anger and persecuted them without pity. 7The whole earth is at rest and is quiet; they break forth into singing. 8Yea, the fir trees rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since you are felled, no hewer is come up to cut us down. 9Sheol beneath is murmuring at your coming; it stirs up against you all the mighty men, even all the rulers of the earth whom you overthrew from their thrones. 10All the kings of the nations shall answer and say to you, Are you also become weak as we? Are you become like us? 11Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the noise of your harps is dead; the dust is spread under you, and the worms cover you. 12How are you fallen from heaven! howl in the morning! for you have fallen down to the ground, O reviler of the nations. 13For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will dwell also upon the high mountains in the outer regions of the north. 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15From henceforth you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the bottom of the pit. 16Those who see you shall stare at you and consider you, saying, Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms; 17Who made the world as a wilderness and destroyed its cities; who did not free his prisoners? 18All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable person, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through by the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as corpses trodden under foot. 20You shall not rejoice with them in the grave, because you have destroyed your land and slain your people; the offspring of the evildoer shall never rise again. 21Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with war. 22For I will rise up against them, says the LORD of hosts, and will cut off from Babylon the name, its offspring, the family, and its generation, says the LORD. 23I will also make it a possession for owls, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the LORD of hosts.

24¶ The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand; 25I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot; then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. 26This is the end that is purposed against all the earth; and this is the land that is stretched out against all the nations. 27For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who can disannul it? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? 28The conquest of Philistia. In the year that King Ahaz died, came this burden. 29Rejoice not, whole Philistia, because the rod of him that smote you is broken; for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a viper, and its offspring shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant I shall slay. 31Howl, O city; cry, O city; whole Philistia is in confusion; for there shall come from the north a smoke? and none shall be left in their feasts. 32What shall one then answer the messengers of the nations? That the LORD has founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall take refuge in it. (LAM)

13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1The LORD will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land, and aliens will join them and will cleave to the house of Jacob. 2And the peoples will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess them in the LORD's land as male and female slaves; they will take captive those who were their captors, and rule over those who oppressed them.

3When the LORD has given you rest from your pain and turmoil and the hard service with which you were made to serve, 4you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: "How the oppressor has ceased, the insolent fury ceased! 5The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of rulers, 6that smote the peoples in wrath with unceasing blows, that ruled the nations in anger with unrelenting persecution. 7The whole earth is at rest and quiet; they break forth into singing. 8The cypresses rejoice at you, the cedars of Lebanon, saying, `Since you were laid low, no hewer comes up against us.' 9Sheol beneath is stirred up to meet you when you come, it rouses the shades to greet you, all who were leaders of the earth; it raises from their thrones all who were kings of the nations. 10All of them will speak and say to you: `You too have become as weak as we! You have become like us!' 11Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering.

12"How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! 13You said in your heart, `I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far north; 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.' 15But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the Pit. 16Those who see you will stare at you, and ponder over you: `Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, 17who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?' 18All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb; 19but you are cast out, away from your sepulchre, like a loathed untimely birth, clothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword, who go down to the stones of the Pit, like a dead body trodden under foot. 20You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, you have slain your people.

"May the descendants of evildoers nevermore be named! 21Prepare slaughter for his sons because of the guilt of their fathers, lest they rise and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities."

22"I will rise up against them," says the LORD of hosts, "and will cut off from Babylon name and remnant, offspring and posterity, says the LORD. 23And I will make it a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water, and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the LORD of hosts."

24The LORD of hosts has sworn: "As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand, 25that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains trample him under foot; and his yoke shall depart from them, and his burden from their shoulder." 26This is the purpose that is purposed concerning the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. 27For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?

28In the year that King Ahaz died came this oracle: 29"Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of you, that the rod which smote you is broken, for from the serpent's root will come forth an adder, and its fruit will be a flying serpent. 30And the first-born of the poor will feed, and the needy lie down in safety; but I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant I will slay. 31Wail, O gate; cry, O city; melt in fear, O Philistia, all of you! For smoke comes out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks."

32What will one answer the messengers of the nation? "The LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people find refuge."(RSV)

13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1The LORD will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land. Aliens will join them and unite with the house of Jacob. 2Nations will take them and bring them to their own place. And the house of Israel will possess the nations as menservants and maidservants in the LORD's land. They will make captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors.

3On the day the LORD gives you relief from suffering and turmoil and cruel bondage, 4you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended! 5The LORD has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers, 6which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression. 7All the lands are at rest and at peace; they break into singing. 8Even the pine trees and the cedars of Lebanon exult over you and say, "Now that you have been laid low, no woodsman comes to cut us down." 9The grave below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you -- all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones -- all those who were kings over the nations. 10They will all respond, they will say to you, "You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us." 11All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. 12How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." 15But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. 16Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, 17the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?" 18All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb. 19But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, 20you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again. 21Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the sins of their forefathers; they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities. 22"I will rise up against them," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants," declares the LORD. 23"I will turn her into a place for owls and into swampland; I will sweep her with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty.

24The LORD Almighty has sworn, "Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand. 25I will crush the Assyrian in my land; on my mountains I will trample him down. His yoke will be taken from my people, and his burden removed from their shoulders." 26This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations. 27For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

28This oracle came in the year King Ahaz died: 29Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper, its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent. 30The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety. But your root I will destroy by famine; it will slay your survivors. 31Wail, O gate! Howl, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines! A cloud of smoke comes from the north, and there is not a straggler in its ranks. 32What answer shall be given to the envoys of that nation? "The LORD has established Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge."(NIV)

13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1For Yahweh will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land. The foreigner will join himself with them, and they will unite with the house of Jacob. 2The peoples will take them, and bring them to their place. The house of Israel will possess them in the Yahweh's land for servants and for handmaids. They will take as captives those whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. 3It will happen in the day that Yahweh will give you rest from your sorrow, from your trouble, and from the hard service in which you were made to serve, 4that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, 'How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!' 5Yahweh has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers, 6who struck the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, who ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained. 7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet. They break out song. 8Yes, the fir trees rejoice with you, with the cedars of Lebanon, saying, 'Since you are humbled, no lumberjack has come up against us.' 9Sheol from beneath has moved for you to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the dead for you, even all the rulers of the earth. It has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10They all will answer and ask you, 'Have you also become as weak as we are? Have you become like us?' 11Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, with the sound of your stringed instruments. Maggots are spread out under you, and worms cover you.

12How you have fallen from Heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low! 13You said in your heart, 'I will ascend into heaven! I will exalt my throne above the stars of God! I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north! 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds! I will make myself like the Most High!' 15Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit. 16Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, 'Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms; 17who made the world like a wilderness, and overthrew its cities; who didn't release his prisoners to their home?'

18All the kings of the nations, sleep in glory, everyone in his own house. 19But you are cast away from your tomb like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain, who are thrust through with the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit; like a dead body trodden under foot. 20You will not join them in burial, because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people. The seed of evil-doers will not be named forever. 21PrepareP for slaughter of his children because of the iniquity of their fathers, that they not rise up and possess the earth, and fill the surface of the world with cities. 22'I will rise up against them,' says Yahweh of Armies, 'and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son's son,' says Yahweh. 23'I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,' says Yahweh of Armies. 24Yahweh of Armies has sworn, saying, 'Surely, as I have thought, so shall it happen; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: 25that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains. Then his yoke will leave them, and his burden leave their shoulders. 26This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. 27For Yahweh of Armies has planned, and who can stop it? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?'

28This burden was in the year that king Ahaz died. 29Don't rejoice, O Philistia, all of you, because the rod that struck you is broken; for out of the serpent's root an adder will emerge, and his fruit will be a fiery flying serpent. 30The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed.

31Howl, gate! Cry, city! You are melted away, Philistia, all of you; for smoke comes out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks. 32What will they answer the messengers of the nation? That Yahweh has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.(WEB)

13 Isaiah 14:1-32 1FOR Yahvah will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and will set them in their own land; and strangers will accompany them, and they will add to the house of Jacob. 2And the Gentiles will take them and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel will possess them in the land of Yahvah for male servants and female servants; and they will take them captive, whose captives they were; and they will rule over their oppressors. 3And it will come to pass in the day that Yahvah will give you rest from your sorrow and from your anger and from the hard bondage in which you were made to serve.

4You will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the ruler ceased, The zealous one ceased. 5Yahvah has broken the staff of the wicked and the scepter of the rulers; 6He who struck the peoples in wrath, striking without instruction, who chastised the peoples in anger and persecuted them without pity. 7The whole earth is at rest and is quiet; they break forth into singing. 8Yes, the fir trees rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since you are felled, no hewer is come up to cut us down. 9Sheol beneath is murmuring at your coming; it stirs up against you all the mighty men, even all the rulers of the earth whom you overthrew from their thrones. 10All the kings of the nations will answer and say to you, Are you also become weak as we? Are you become like us? 11Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the noise of your harps is dead; the dust is spread under you, and the worms cover you. 12How you are fallen from heaven. Howl in the morning, For you have fallen down to the ground, oh reviler of the nations. 13For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also live on the high mountains in the outer regions of the north. 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15From now on, you will be brought down to Sheol, to the bottom of the pit. 16Those who see you will stare at you and consider you, saying, Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms; 17Who made the world as a wilderness and destroyed its cities; who did not free his prisoners? 18All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, each one in his own house. 19But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable person, and as the raiment of those who are slain, thrust through by the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as corpses trampled under foot. 20You will not rejoice with them in the grave, because you have destroyed your land and slain your people; the offspring of the evildoer will never rise again. 21Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with war. 22For I will rise up against them, says Yahvah of hosts, and will cut off from Babylon the name, its offspring, the family, and its generation, says Yahvah. 23I will also make it a possession for owls, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says Yahvah of hosts.

24Yahvah of hosts has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so it will come to pass; and as I have purposed, so it will stand; 25I will break the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains tread him under foot; then his yoke will depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. 26This is the end that is purposed against all the earth; and this is the land that is stretched out against all the nations. 27For Yahvah of hosts has purposed, and who can disannul it? And his hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back? 28In the year that King Ahaz died, came this burden.

29Do not rejoice, whole Philistia, because the rod of him who struck you is broken; for out of the serpent's root will come out a viper, and its offspring will be a fiery flying serpent. 30And the firstborn of the poor will feed, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant I will slay. 31Howl, oh city; cry, oh city; all of Philistia is in confusion; for there will come from the north a smoke, and no one will be left in their feasts. 32What will one then answer the messengers of the nations? That Yahvah has founded Zion, and the poor of his people will take refuge in it. (BRB)
