7 Judges 5:1-31 1Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, 2Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves. 3Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel. 4LORD, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water. 5The mountains melted from before the LORD, even that Sinai from before the LORD God of Israel. 6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travelers walked through byways. 7The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel. 8They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel? 9My heart is toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the LORD. 10Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way. 11They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the LORD, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the LORD go down to the gates. 12Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam. 13Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the LORD made me have dominion over the mighty. 14Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer. 15And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart. 16Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart. 17Gilead abode beyond Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches. 18Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death in the high places of the field. 19The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money. 20They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. 21The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength. 22Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones. 23Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty. 24Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 25He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish. 26She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmens hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples. 27At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead. 28The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots? 29Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself, 30Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil? 31So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.(KJV)

7 Judges 5:1-31 1Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,

2For that the leaders took the lead in Israel,

For that the people offered themselves willingly,

Bless ye Jehovah.

3Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes;

I, even I, will sing unto Jehovah;

I will sing praise to Jehovah, the God of Israel.

4Jehovah, when thou wentest forth out of Seir,

When thou marchedst out of the field of Edom,

The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped,

Yea, the clouds dropped water.

5The mountains quaked at the presence of Jehovah,

Even yon Sinai at the presence of Jehovah, the God of Israel.

6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath,

In the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied,

And the travellers walked through byways.

7The rulers ceased in Israel, they ceased,

Until that I Deborah arose,

That I arose a mother in Israel.

8They chose new gods;

Then was war in the gates:

Was there a shield or spear seen

Among forty thousand in Israel?

9My heart is toward the governors of Israel,

That offered themselves willingly among the people:

Bless ye Jehovah.

10Tell of it, ye that ride on white asses,

Ye that sit on rich carpets,

And ye that walk by the way.

11Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water,

There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah,

Even the righteous acts of his rule in Israel.

Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates.

12Awake, awake, Deborah;

Awake, awake, utter a song:

Arise, Barak, and lead away thy captives, thou son of Abinoam.

13Then came down a remnant of the nobles and the people;

Jehovah came down for me against the mighty.

14Out of Ephraim came down they whose root is in Amalek;

After thee, Benjamin, among thy peoples;

Out of Machir came down governors,

And out of Zebulun they that handle the marshal's staff.

15And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah;

As was Issachar, so was Barak;

Into the valley they rushed forth at his feet.

By the watercourses of Reuben

There were great resolves of heart.

16Why sattest thou among the sheepfolds,

To hear the pipings for the flocks?

At the watercourses of Reuben

There were great searchings of heart.

17Gilead abode beyond the Jordan:

And Dan, why did he remain in ships?

Asher sat still at the haven of the sea,

And abode by his creeks.

18Zebulun was a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death,

And Naphtali, upon the high places of the field.

19The kings came and fought;

Then fought the kings of Canaan.

In Taanach by the waters of Megiddo:

They took no gain of money.

20From heaven fought the stars,

From their courses they fought against Sisera.

21The river Kishon swept them away,

That ancient river, the river Kishon.

O my soul, march on with strength.

22Then did the horsehoofs stamp

By reason of the prancings, the prancings of their strong ones.

23Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of Jehovah.

Curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof,

Because they came not to the help of Jehovah,

To the help of Jehovah against the mighty.

24Blessed above women shall Jael be,

The wife of Heber the Kenite;

Blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

25He asked water, and she gave him milk;

She brought him butter in a lordly dish.

26She put her hand to the tent-pin,

And her right hand to the workmen's hammer;

And with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote through his head;

Yea, she pierced and struck through his temples.

27At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay;

At her feet he bowed, he fell;

Where he bowed, there he fell down dead.

28Through the window she looked forth, and cried,

The mother of Sisera cried through the lattice,

Why is his chariot so long in coming?

Why tarry the wheels of his chariots?

29Her wise ladies answered her,

Yea, she returned answer to herself,

30Have they not found, have they not divided the spoil?

A damsel, two damsels to every man;

To Sisera a spoil of dyed garments,

A spoil of dyed garments embroidered,

Of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, on the necks of the spoil?

31So let all thine enemies perish, O Jehovah:(ASV)

7 Judges 5:1-31 1THEN sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, 2With requital has Israel been avenged; praise the LORD with a song for avenging Israel. 3Hear, O kings; give ear, O princes; I will sing to the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel. 4LORD, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst in the fields of Edom, the earth trembled and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water. 5The mountains melted from before the LORD, even this Sinai from the presence of the LORD the Holy One of Israel.

6¶ In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Anael, the highways were cut off, and the travellers who once walked on main roads, had to go through the crooked byways. 7The little villages ceased in Israel; they ceased, until I Deborah arose, I arose as a mother in Israel. 8The LORD will choose new things; then the barley bread, and a sword or a spear shall not be seen among forty thousand in Israel. 9My heart said to the lawgiver of Israel, They that are chosen among the people bless the LORD. 10O you who ride on white asses, you who dwell in houses, and you who travel on the highways, 11Meditate on the words of the inquirers, who are among the teachers; they shall execute the righteousness of the LORD, even his righteousness which he has multiplied in Israel; then shall the people of the LORD march to the gates.

12¶ Awake, awake, Deborah; awake, utter a song; arise, Barak, and lead away your captives, O son of Abinoam. 13Then the deliverer went down to sing praise before the LORD; thou hast given me victory by the hand of a man out of Ephraim. 14And Barak's works are known in Amalek; after you marched Benjamin with affection for you; out of Machir came forth a seer, and out of Zebulun those who write with the pen of a scribe. 15And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar is like Barak among the peoples; he was sent on foot to a portion of Reuben; great are those who give oracles to comfort the heart. 16Why abodest thou on the highways to hear the bleatings of the wild asses? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart. 17Gad abode beyond the Jordan; and Dan brought ships to the harbor; Asher dwelt on the sea shore, and remained in its harbors. 18Zebulun and Naphtali were peoples who jeopardized their lives on the high places of his field. 19The kings came and fought; then fought the kings of Canaan; they fought in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no goods nor money. 20The stars fought from their courses; they fought from heaven against Sisera by the river Kishon. 21The river Kishon and the river Karmin swept them away. O my soul, you have defeated an army! 22Then the hoofs of his horses fell down, were broken because of the prancing of his mighty ones. 23Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse it, and curse the inhabitants thereof, because they came not with men to the help of the LORD.

24¶ Blessed above women shall Anael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 25He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a giant bowl. 26She put her hand to the peg and her right hand to the carpenter's hammer, and with the hammer she struck Sisera and crushed his head, when she had struck and pierced his temples. 27At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down; at the place where he bowed, there he fell down dead, the plunderer. 28The mother of Sisera looked out of the window and cried through the lattice, Why are the chariots of my son so long in coming? Why tarries the clatter of his chariots? 29Her wise ladies answered her, saying, 30Perhaps he went and found great spoil, dividing the prey, giving to every man a mule and great booty, and to Sisera a prey of diverse colors of needlework and diverse colors of embroidered work, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil. 31So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD; but let them that love thee be like the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest for forty years. (LAM)

7 Judges 5:1-31 1Then sang Deb'orah and Barak the son of Abin'o-am on that day: 2"That the leaders took the lead in Israel, that the people offered themselves willingly, bless the LORD!

3"Hear, O kings; give ear, O princes; to the LORD I will sing, I will make melody to the LORD, the God of Israel.

4"LORD, when thou didst go forth from Se'ir, when thou didst march from the region of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, yea, the clouds dropped water. 5The mountains quaked before the LORD, yon Sinai before the LORD, the God of Israel.

6"In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Ja'el, caravans ceased and travelers kept to the byways. 7The peasantry ceased in Israel, they ceased until you arose, Deb'orah, arose as a mother in Israel. 8When new gods were chosen, then war was in the gates. Was shield or spear to be seen among forty thousand in Israel? 9My heart goes out to the commanders of Israel who offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless the LORD.

10"Tell of it, you who ride on tawny asses, you who sit on rich carpets and you who walk by the way. 11To the sound of musicians at the watering places, there they repeat the triumphs of the LORD, the triumphs of his peasantry in Israel.

"Then down to the gates marched the people of the LORD.

12"Awake, awake, Deb'orah! Awake, awake, utter a song! Arise, Barak, lead away your captives, O son of Abin'o-am. 13Then down marched the remnant of the noble; the people of the LORD marched down for him against the mighty. 14From E'phraim they set out thither into the valley, following you, Benjamin, with your kinsmen; from Machir marched down the commanders, and from Zeb'ulun those who bear the marshal's staff; 15the princes of Is'sachar came with Deb'orah, and Is'sachar faithful to Barak; into the valley they rushed forth at his heels. Among the clans of Reuben there were great searchings of heart. 16Why did you tarry among the sheepfolds, to hear the piping for the flocks? Among the clans of Reuben there were great searchings of heart. 17Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan; and Dan, why did he abide with the ships? Asher sat still at the coast of the sea, settling down by his landings. 18Zeb'ulun is a people that jeoparded their lives to the death; Naph'tali too, on the heights of the field.

19"The kings came, they fought; then fought the kings of Canaan, at Ta'anach, by the waters of Megid'do; they got no spoils of silver. 20From heaven fought the stars, from their courses they fought against Sis'era. 21The torrent Kishon swept them away, the onrushing torrent, the torrent Kishon. March on, my soul, with might!

22"Then loud beat the horses' hoofs with the galloping, galloping of his steeds.

23"Curse Meroz, says the angel of the LORD, curse bitterly its inhabitants, because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.

24"Most blessed of women be Ja'el, the wife of Heber the Ken'ite, of tent-dwelling women most blessed. 25He asked water and she gave him milk, she brought him curds in a lordly bowl. 26She put her hand to the tent peg and her right hand to the workmen's mallet; she struck Sis'era a blow, she crushed his head, she shattered and pierced his temple. 27He sank, he fell, he lay still at her feet; at her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell dead.

28"Out of the window she peered, the mother of Sis'era gazed through the lattice: `Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why tarry the hoofbeats of his chariots?' 29Her wisest ladies make answer, nay, she gives answer to herself, 30`Are they not finding and dividing the spoil?--A maiden or two for every man; spoil of dyed stuffs for Sis'era, spoil of dyed stuffs embroidered, two pieces of dyed work embroidered for my neck as spoil?'

31"So perish all thine enemies, O LORD! But thy friends be like the sun as he rises in his might." (RSV)

7 Judges 5:1-31 1On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song: 2"When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves -- praise the LORD! 3"Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I will sing to the LORD, I will sing; I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel. 4"O LORD, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water. 5The mountains quaked before the LORD, the One of Sinai, before the LORD, the God of Israel. 6"In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the roads were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths. 7Village life in Israel ceased, ceased until I, Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel. 8When they chose new gods, war came to the city gates, and not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel. 9My heart is with Israel's princes, with the willing volunteers among the people. Praise the LORD! 10"You who ride on white donkeys, sitting on your saddle blankets, and you who walk along the road, consider 11the voice of the singers at the watering places. They recite the righteous acts of the LORD, the righteous acts of his warriors in Israel. "Then the people of the LORD went down to the city gates. 12`Wake up, wake up, Deborah! Wake up, wake up, break out in song! Arise, O Barak! Take captive your captives, O son of Abinoam.' 13"Then the men who were left came down to the nobles; the people of the LORD came to me with the mighty. 14Some came from Ephraim, whose roots were in Amalek; Benjamin was with the people who followed you. From Makir captains came down, from Zebulun those who bear a commander's staff. 15The princes of Issachar were with Deborah; yes, Issachar was with Barak, rushing after him into the valley. In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart. 16Why did you stay among the campfires to hear the whistling for the flocks? In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart. 17Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan. And Dan, why did he linger by the ships? Asher remained on the coast and stayed in his coves. 18The people of Zebulun risked their very lives; so did Naphtali on the heights of the field. 19"Kings came, they fought; the kings of Canaan fought at Taanach by the waters of Megiddo, but they carried off no silver, no plunder. 20From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. 21The river Kishon swept them away, the age-old river, the river Kishon. March on, my soul; be strong! 22Then thundered the horses' hoofs -- galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds. 23`Curse Meroz,' said the angel of the LORD. `Curse its people bitterly, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty.' 24"Most blessed of women be Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, most blessed of tent-dwelling women. 25He asked for water, and she gave him milk; in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk. 26Her hand reached for the tent peg, her right hand for the workman's hammer. She struck Sisera, she crushed his head, she shattered and pierced his temple. 27At her feet he sank, he fell; there he lay. At her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell -- dead. 28"Through the window peered Sisera's mother; behind the lattice she cried out, `Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?' 29The wisest of her ladies answer her; indeed, she keeps saying to herself, 30`Are they not finding and dividing the spoils: a girl or two for each man, colorful garments as plunder for Sisera, colorful garments embroidered, highly embroidered garments for my neck -- all this as plunder?' 31"So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But may they who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength." Then the land had peace forty years.(NIV)

7 Judges 5:1-31 1Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,

2For that the leaders took the lead in Israel,

For that the people offered themselves willingly,

Bless youP Yahweh.

3Hear, youP kings; give ear, youP princes;

I, even I, will sing to Yahweh;

I will sing praise to Yahweh, the God of Israel.

4Yahwehf , when you went forth out of Seir,

When you marched out of the field of Edom,

The earth trembled, the sky also dropped,

Yes, the clouds dropped water.

5The mountains quaked at the presence of Yahweh,

Even yon Sinai at the presence of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath,

In the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied,

The travelers walked through byways.

7The rulers ceased in Israel, they ceased,

Until that I Deborah arose,

That I arose a mother in Israel.

8They chose new gods;

Then was war in the gates:

Was there a shield or spear seen

Among forty thousand in Israel?

9My heart is toward the governors of Israel,

Who offered themselves willingly among the people:

Bless youP Yahweh.

10Tell of it, youP who ride on white donkeys,

YouP who sit on rich carpets,

YouP who walk by the way.

11Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water,

There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of Yahweh,

Even the righteous acts of his rule in Israel.

Then the people of Yahweh went down to the gates.

12Awake, awake, Deborah;

Awake, awake, utter a song:

Arise, Barak, and lead away your captives, you son of Abinoam.

13Then came down a remnant of the nobles and the people;

Yahweh came down for me against the mighty.

14Out of Ephraim came down they whose root is in Amalek;

After you, Benjamin, among your peoples;

Out of Machir came down governors,

Out of Zebulun those who handle the marshal's staff.

15The princes of Issachar were with Deborah;

As was Issachar, so was Barak;

Into the valley they rushed forth at his feet.

By the watercourses of Reuben

There were great resolves of heart.

16Why sat you among the sheepfolds,

To hear the whistling for the flocks?

At the watercourses of Reuben

There were great searchings of heart.

17Gilead abode beyond the Jordan:

Dan, why did he remain in ships?

Asher sat still at the haven of the sea,

Abode by his creeks.

18Zebulun was a people that jeopardized their lives to the death,

Naphtali, on the high places of the field.

19The kings came and fought;

Then fought the kings of Canaan.

In Taanach by the waters of Megiddo:

They took no gain of money.

20From the sky the stars fought,

From their courses they fought against Sisera.

21The river Kishon swept them away,

That ancient river, the river Kishon.

My soul, march on with strength.

22Then did the horse hoofs stamp

By reason of the prancings, the prancings of their strong ones.

23Curse youP Meroz, said the angel of Yahweh.

Curse youP bitterly the inhabitants of it,

Because they didn't come to the help of Yahweh,

To the help of Yahweh against the mighty.

24Blessed above women shall Jael be,

The wife of Heber the Kenite;

Blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

25He asked water, and she gave him milk;

She brought him butter in a lordly dish.

26She put her hand to the tent-pin,

Her right hand to the workmen's hammer;

With the hammer she struck Sisera, she struck through his head;

Yes, she pierced and struck through his temples.

27At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay;

At her feet he bowed, he fell;

Where he bowed, there he fell down dead.

28Through the window she looked forth, and cried,

The mother of Sisera cried through the lattice,

Why is his chariot so long in coming?

Why do the wheels of his chariots wait?

29Her wise ladies answered her,

Yes, she returned answer to herself,

30Have they not found, have they not divided the spoil?

A lady, two ladies to every man;

To Sisera a spoil of dyed garments,

A spoil of dyed garments embroidered,

Of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, on the necks of the spoil?

31So let all your enemies perish, Yahwehf :(WEB)

7 Judges 5:1-31 1THEN sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, 2With requital has Israel been avenged; praise Yahvah with a song for avenging Israel. 3Hear, oh kings; give ear, oh princes; I will sing to Yahvah; I will sing praise to Yahvah God of Israel. 4Yahvah, when you went out of Seir, when you marched in the fields of Edom, the earth trembled and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water. 5The mountains melted from before Yahvah, even this Sinai from the presence of Yahvah the Holy One of Israel.

6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Anael, the highways were cut off, and the travellers who once walked on main roads, had to go through the crooked byways. 7The little villages ceased in Israel; they ceased, until I Deborah arose, I arose as a mother in Israel. 8Yahvah will choose new things; then the barley bread, and a sword or a spear will not be seen among 40,000 in Israel. 9My heart said to the lawgiver of Israel, Those who are chosen among the people bless Yahvah. 10You who ride on white donkeys, you who live in houses, and you who travel on the highways, 11Meditate on the words of the inquirers, who are among the teachers; they will execute the righteousness of Yahvah, even his righteousness which he has multiplied in Israel; then the people of Yahvah will march to the gates.

12Awake, awake, Deborah; awake, utter a song; arise, Barak, and lead away your captives, oh son of Abinoam. 13Then the deliverer went down to sing praise before Yahvah; you have given me victory by the hand of a man out of Ephraim. 16Why do you abode on the highways? To hear the bleatings of the wild donkeys? For in the divisions of Reuben were great searches of heart. 17Gad abode beyond the Jordan; and Dan brought ships to the harbor; Asher lived on the sea shore, and remained in its harbors. Oh my soul, you have defeated an army. 22Then the hoofs of his horses fell down, were broken because of the prancing of his mighty ones. 23Curse Meroz, said the angel of Yahvah, curse it, and curse its inhabitants, because they did not come with men to the help of Yahvah.

24Blessed above women will Anael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed she will be above women in the tent. 29Her wise ladies answered her, saying, 30Perhaps he went and found great spoil, dividing the prey, giving to every man a mule and great plunder, and to Sisera a prey of diverse colors of needlework and diverse colors of embroidered work, fitting for the necks of those who take the spoil. 31So let all your enemies perish, oh Yahvah; but let those who love you be like the sun when he goes forth in his might. And the land had rest for 40 years. (BRB)
