5 Deuteronomy 32:1-52 1Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. 2My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: 3Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. 5They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation. 6Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?

7Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee. 8When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. 9For the LORDS portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. 10He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. 11As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: 12So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him. 13He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; 14Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.

15But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. 16They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. 17They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. 18Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee. 19And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters. 20And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. 21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. 22For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them. 24They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. 25The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs. 26I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men: 27Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this. 28For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them. 29O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! 30How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up? 31For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges. 32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter: 33Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps. 34Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures? 35To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. 36For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left. 37And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted, 38Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. 39See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. 40For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. 41If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. 42I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy. 43Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

44And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun. 45And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel: 46And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. 47For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it. 48And the LORD spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying, 49Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession: 50And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people: 51Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. 52Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.(KJV)

5 Deuteronomy 32:1-52 1Give ear, ye heavens, and I will speak;

And let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

2My doctrine shall drop as the rain;

My speech shall distil as the dew,

As the small rain upon the tender grass,

And as the showers upon the herb.

3For I will proclaim the name of Jehovah:

Ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

4The Rock, his work is perfect;

For all his ways are justice:

A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,

Just and right is he.

5They have dealt corruptly with him, they are not his children, it is their blemish;

They are a perverse and crooked generation.

6Do ye thus requite Jehovah,

O foolish people and unwise?

Is not he thy father that hath bought thee?

He hath made thee, and established thee.

7Remember the days of old,

Consider the years of many generations:

Ask thy father, and he will show thee;

Thine elders, and they will tell thee.

8When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance,

When he separated the children of men,

He set the bounds of the peoples

According to the number of the children of Israel.

9For Jehovah's portion is his people;

Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10He found him in a desert land,

And in the waste howling wilderness;

He compassed him about, he cared for him,

He kept him as the apple of his eye.

11As an eagle that stirreth up her nest,

That fluttereth over her young,

He spread abroad his wings, he took them,

He bare them on his pinions.

12Jehovah alone did lead him,

And there was no foreign god with him.

13He made him ride on the high places of the earth,

And he did eat the increase of the field;

And he made him to suck honey out of the rock,

And oil out of the flinty rock;

14Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock,

With fat of lambs,

And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,

With the finest of the wheat;

And of the blood of the grape thou drankest wine.

15But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked:

Thou art waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art become sleek;

Then he forsook God who made him,

And lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

16They moved him to jealousy with strange gods;

With abominations provoked they him to anger.

17They sacrificed unto demons, which were no God,

To gods that they knew not,

To new gods that came up of late,

Which your fathers dreaded not.

18Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful,

And hast forgotten God that gave thee birth.

19And Jehovah saw it, and abhorred them,

Because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

20And he said, I will hide my face from them,

I will see what their end shall be:

For they are a very perverse generation,

Children in whom is no faithfulness.

21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God;

They have provoked me to anger with their vanities:

And I will move them to jealousy with those that are not a people;

I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

22For a fire is kindled in mine anger,

And burneth unto the lowest Sheol,

And devoureth the earth with its increase,

And setteth on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23I will heap evils upon them;

I will spend mine arrows upon them:

24They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat

And bitter destruction;

And the teeth of beasts will I send upon them,

With the poison of crawling things of the dust.

25Without shall the sword bereave,

And in the chambers terror;

It shall destroy both young man and virgin,

The suckling with the man of gray hairs.

26I said, I would scatter them afar,

I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men;

27Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy,

Lest their adversaries should judge amiss,

Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted,

And Jehovah hath not done all this.

28For they are a nation void of counsel,

And there is no understanding in them.

29Oh that they were wise, that they understood this,

That they would consider their latter end!

30How should one chase a thousand,

And two put ten thousand to flight,

Except their Rock had sold them,

And Jehovah had delivered them up?

31For their rock is not as our Rock,

Even our enemies themselves being judges.

32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom,

And of the fields of Gomorrah:

Their grapes are grapes of gall,

Their clusters are bitter:

33Their wine is the poison of serpents,

And the cruel venom of asps.

34Is not this laid up in store with me,

Sealed up among my treasures?

35Vengeance is mine, and recompense,

At the time when their foot shall slide:

For the day of their calamity is at hand,

And the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.

36For Jehovah will judge his people,

And repent himself for his servants;

When he seeth that their power is gone,

And there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

37And he will say, Where are their gods,

The rock in which they took refuge;

38Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices,

And drank the wine of their drink-offering?

Let them rise up and help you,

Let them be your protection.

39See now that I, even I, am he,

And there is no god with me:

I kill, and I make alive;

I wound, and I heal;

And there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

40For I lift up my hand to heaven,

And say, As I live for ever,

41If I whet my glittering sword,

And my hand take hold on judgment;

I will render vengeance to mine adversaries,

And will recompense them that hate me.

42I will make mine arrows drunk with blood,

And my sword shall devour flesh;

With the blood of the slain and the captives,

From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

43Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people:

For he will avenge the blood of his servants,

And will render vengeance to his adversaries,

And will make expiation for his land, for his people.

44And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun. 45And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel; 46And he said unto them, Set your heart unto all the words which I testify unto you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, even all the words of this law. 47For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.

48And Jehovah spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying, 49Get thee up into this mountain of Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession; 50and die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people: 51because ye trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. 52For thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither into the land which I give the children of Israel.(ASV)

5 Deuteronomy 32:1-52 1GIVE ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and let the earth hear the words of my mouth. 2My word shall drop as rain, my speech shall fall as dew, as the gentle wind upon the tender herbs, and as the showers upon the grass; 3For I will call upon the name of the LORD; ascribe majesty to our God, the Mighty One. 4For his works are perfect; and all his ways are just; he is a faithful God and without iniquity, just and upright is he. 5They have corrupted themselves, and they are not his children because of blemish; they are a perverse and crooked generation. 6Are these the things that you return unto the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your father who has redeemed you? Has he not made you and established you?

7¶ Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you. 8When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated mankind, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. 9For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. 10He found him in a desert land, and in the waste and howling wilderness; he made him to settle down, he loved him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. 11As an eagle encircles his nest, fluttering over his young, spreading out its wings, taking them, bearing them on the strength of his wings; 12So the LORD alone did lead Israel, and there was no strange god with him. 13He made him to dwell in a fertile land, and fed him with the produce of the field; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock and oil out of the flinty rock; 14And gave him butter of cows and milk of sheep, with fat of fatlings and rams of the breed of rock-goats and goats, with the fat and the best wheat; and he gave him wine to drink, and of the juices of grapes.

15¶ And Israel grew fat and kicked; he became rich and mighty, he gained wealth; then he forsook God who made him, and reviled the Mighty One who had saved him. 16They provoked him to zealousness with strange gods, they made him angry with idols. 17They sacrificed to demons that were not gods; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that were just made. whom your fathers had never worshipped. 18But you forsook the Mighty One who bore you, and you forgot the God who made you glorious.

19¶ And the LORD saw it, and was angry, because his sons and daughters provoked him. 20And he said, I will turn away my face from them, I will see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faith. 21They have provoked me to zealousness with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their idols; so I will move them to jealousy with those that are not my people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. 22For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn to the lowest parts of Sheol, and shall consume the earth and its increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend my arrows upon them. 24They shall be disabled with hunger, and I will deliver them to evil spirits, and I will deliver them to vultures; I will also stir up wild beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents which creep in the dust. 25Outside the sword shall bereave, and terror in inner chambers shall destroy both the young men and the virgins, the suckling also with the men of gray hairs.

26¶ And I said, Where are they? I would blot out the memory of them from among men. 27Had it not been for the wrath of the enemy, who had become strong, and had it not been for the boasting of the adversary, who would say, It is our hand that has prevailed, and the LORD has not done all this, I would have blotted them out. 28For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them. 29O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! 30How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Mighty One had delivered them to their enemies, and the LORD had hemmed them in? 31For their strength is not as our strength, even our enemies themselves being judges. 32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are bitter grapes, the clusters are gall to them; 33Their venom is the venom of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps. 34Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up in my treasures? 35To me belongs vengeance, and I will recompense them at the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their destruction is at hand, and the misfortune that shall come upon them makes haste. 36For the LORD shall judge his people, and be consoled for his servants, because he will see that their power is gone, and there is none to help or sustain. 37And he shall say, Where are their mighty gods, those in whom they trusted, 38Who ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them now rise up and help you, let them be your protection.

39¶ See now that I. even I. am he, and there is no god besides me; I cause men to die, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and there is none that can escape out of my hands. 40For I lift up my hand to heaven and say, I live for ever. 41I will whet my glittering sword as the lightning, and my hand shall take hold of judgment; I will render vengeance on those that hate me, and cause my enemies to surrender. 42I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh, with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the crown of the head of the enemy. 43Therefore praise his people, O you nations; for the blood of his servants shall be avenged, and he will take vengeance upon his adversaries, and will give absolution to his land and to his people.

44¶ And Moses came and recited all the words of this song before the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun. 45And when Moses had finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46He said to them, Set your hearts to all the words which I testify among you this day, which you shall command your children to do, all the words of this law. 47For it is not a vain thing for you, because it is your life; and through this thing you shall prolong your days in the land which you are crossing the Jordan to possess. 48And the LORD spoke to Moses that same day, saying, 49Go up into this mountain of the Abraye, into mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over toward Jericho; and view the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel as a possession: 50And die on the mountain which you ascend, and be gathered to your people; as Aaron your brother died on mount Hor, and was gathered to his people: 51Because you transgressed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Mesotha which is at Rakim, in the wilderness of Zin; because you did not sanctify me in the midst of the children of Israel. 52Yet you shall see the land before you, which I give to the children of Israel; but you shall not enter there. 28"For they are a nation void of counsel, and there is no understanding in them. 29If they were wise, they would understand this, they would discern their latter end! 30How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had given them up? 31For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges. 32For their vine comes from the vine of Sodom, and from the fields of Gomor'rah; their grapes are grapes of poison, their clusters are bitter; 33their wine is the poison of serpents, and the cruel venom of asps.

43"Praise his people, O you nations; for he avenges the blood of his servants, and takes vengeance on his adversaries, and makes expiation for the land of his people."

44Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun. 45And when Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, 46he said to them, "Lay to heart all the words which I enjoin upon you this day, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. 47For it is no trifle for you, but it is your life, and thereby you shall live long in the land which you are going over the Jordan to possess."

48And the LORD said to Moses that very day, 49"Ascend this mountain of the Ab'arim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho; and view the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel for a possession; 50and die on the mountain which you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered to his people; 51because you broke faith with me in the midst of the people of Israel at the waters of Mer'i-bath-ka'desh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you did not revere me as holy in the midst of the people of Israel. 52For you shall see the land before you; but you shall not go there, into the land which I give to the people of Israel."(RSV)

5 Deuteronomy 32:1-52 1Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. 2Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. 3I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! 4He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. 5They have acted corruptly toward him; to their shame they are no longer his children, but a warped and crooked generation. 6Is this the way you repay the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you? 7Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you. 8When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. 9For the LORD's portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance. 10In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye, 11like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. 12The LORD alone led him; no foreign god was with him. 13He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag, 14with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan and the finest kernels of wheat. You drank the foaming blood of the grape. 15Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned the God who made him and rejected the Rock his Savior. 16They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols. 17They sacrificed to demons, which are not God -- gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your fathers did not fear. 18You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. 19The LORD saw this and rejected them because he was angered by his sons and daughters. 20"I will hide my face from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful. 21They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding. 22For a fire has been kindled by my wrath, one that burns to the realm of death below. It will devour the earth and its harvests and set afire the foundations of the mountains. 23"I will heap calamities upon them and spend my arrows against them. 24I will send wasting famine against them, consuming pestilence and deadly plague; I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts, the venom of vipers that glide in the dust. 25In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. Young men and young women will perish, infants and gray-haired men. 26I said I would scatter them and blot out their memory from mankind, 27but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand and say, `Our hand has triumphed; the LORD has not done all this.'" 28They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment in them. 29If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be! 30How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up? 31For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede. 32Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison, and their clusters with bitterness. 33Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras. 34"Have I not kept this in reserve and sealed it in my vaults? 35It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them." 36The LORD will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free. 37He will say: "Now where are their gods, the rock they took refuge in, 38the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up to help you! Let them give you shelter! 39"See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand. 40I lift my hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever, 41when I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me. 42I will make my arrows drunk with blood, while my sword devours flesh: the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders." 43Rejoice, O nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants; he will take vengeance on his enemies and make atonement for his land and people.

44Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47They are not just idle words for you -- they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess."

48On that same day the LORD told Moses, 49"Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo in Moab, across from Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. 50There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. 51This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. 52Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel."(NIV)

5 Deuteronomy 32:1-52 1Give ear, youP heavens, and I will speak;

Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

2My doctrine shall drop as the rain;

My speech shall condense as the dew,

As the small rain on the tender grass,

As the showers on the herb.

3For I will proclaim the name of Yahweh:

AscribeP greatness to our God.

4The Rock, his work is perfect;

For all his ways are justice:

A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,

Just and right is he.

5They have dealt corruptly with him, they are not his children, it is their blemish;

They are a perverse and crooked generation.

6Do youP thus requite Yahweh,

Foolish people and unwise?

Isn't he your father who has bought you?

He has made you, and established you.

7Remember the days of old,

Consider the years of many generations:

Ask your father, and he will show you;

Your elders, and they will tell you.

8When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance,

When he separated the children of men,

He set the bounds of the peoples

According to the number of the children of Israel.

9For Yahweh's portion is his people;

Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10He found him in a desert land,

In the waste howling wilderness;

He compassed him about, he cared for him,

He kept him as the apple of his eye.

11As an eagle that stirs up her nest,

That flutters over her young,

He spread abroad his wings, he took them,

He bore them on his feathers.

12Yahweh alone did lead him,

There was no foreign god with him.

13He made him ride on the high places of the earth,

He ate the increase of the field;

He made him to suck honey out of the rock,

Oil out of the flinty rock;

14Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock,

With fat of lambs,

Rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,

With the finest of the wheat;

Of the blood of the grape you drank wine.

15But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked:

You have grown fat, you are grown thick, you are become sleek;

Then he forsook God who made him,

Lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

16They moved him to jealousy with strange gods;

With abominations provoked they him to anger.

17They sacrificed to demons, which were no God,

To gods that they didn't know,

To new gods that came up of late,

Which your fathers didn't dread.

18Of the Rock that became your father, you are unmindful,

Have forgotten God who gave you birth.

19Yahweh saw it, and abhorred them,

Because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

20He said, I will hide my face from them,

I will see what their end shall be:

For they are a very perverse generation,

Children in whom is no faithfulness.

21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God;

They have provoked me to anger with their vanities:

I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people;

I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

22For a fire is kindled in my anger,

Burns to the lowest Sheol,

Devours the earth with its increase,

Sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23I will heap evils on them;

I will spend my arrows on them:

24They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat

Bitter destruction;

The teeth of animals will I send on them,

With the poison of crawling things of the dust.

25Outside shall the sword bereave,

In the chambers terror;

It shall destroy both young man and virgin,

The suckling with the man of gray hairs.

26I said, I would scatter them afar,

I would make the memory of them to cease from among men;

27Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy,

Lest their adversaries should judge wrongly,

Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted,

Yahweh has not done all this.

28For they are a nation void of counsel,

There is no understanding in them.

29Oh that they were wise, that they understood this,

That they would consider their latter end!

30How should one chase a thousand,

Two put ten thousand to flight,

Except their Rock had sold them,

Yahweh had delivered them up?

31For their rock is not as our Rock,

Even our enemies themselves being judges.

32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom,

Of the fields of Gomorrah:

Their grapes are grapes of gall,

Their clusters are bitter:

33Their wine is the poison of serpents,

The cruel venom of asps.

34Isn't this laid up in store with me,

Sealed up among my treasures?

35Vengeance is mine, and recompense,

At the time when their foot shall slide:

For the day of their calamity is at hand,

The things that are to come on them shall make haste.

36For Yahweh will judge his people,

Repent himself for his servants;

When he sees that their power is gone,

There is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

37He will say, Where are their gods,

The rock in which they took refuge;

38Which ate the fat of their sacrifices,

And drank the wine of their drink-offering?

Let them rise up and help you,

Let them be your protection.

39See now that I, even I, am he,

There is no god with me:

I kill, and I make alive;

I wound, and I heal;

There is none who can deliver out of my hand.

40For I lift up my hand to heaven,

And say, As I live forever,

41If I whet my glittering sword,

My hand take hold on judgment;

I will render vengeance to my adversaries,

Will recompense those who hate me.

42I will make my arrows drunk with blood,

My sword shall devour flesh;

With the blood of the slain and the captives,

From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

43Rejoice, youP nations, with his people:

For he will avenge the blood of his servants,

Will render vengeance to his adversaries,

Will make expiation for his land, for his people.

44Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun. 45Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel; 46He said to them, Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you this day, which youP shall command your children to observe to do, even all the words of this law. 47For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing youP shall prolong your days in the land, where youP go over the Jordan to possess it. 48Yahweh spoke to Moses that same day, saying, 49Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and see the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel for a possession; 50and die on the mountain where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people: 51because youP trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because youP didn't sanctify me in the midst of the children of Israel. 52For you shall see the land before you; but you shall not go there into the land which I give the children of Israel.(WEB)

5 Deuteronomy 32:1-52 1Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak.
Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

2My doctrine shall drop as the rain.
My speech shall condense as the dew,
as the small rain on the tender grass,
as the showers on the herb.
