1 Genesis 15:1-21
1 Genesis 15:1-21
1 Genesis 15:1-21
12And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, a horror of great darkness fell upon him. 13And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14and also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. 15But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. 16And in the fourth generation they shall come hither again; for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full. 17And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces. 18In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: 19the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite, 20and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim, 21and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.(ASV) 1 Genesis 15:1-21
2¶ And Abram said, O LORD God, what will thou give me, for I will die childless, and Eliezer of Damascus, one of my household, will be my heir? 3And Abram said, Behold, thou hast given me no son; and, behold, one of the members of my household will be my heir. 4Then the LORD said to him, This man shall not be your heir; but your own son that shall come out of your own loins shall be your heir. 5And he brought him outside, and said to him, Look now toward heaven and number the stars, if you are able to number them; and he said to him, So shall your descendants be. 6And Abram believed in the LORD; and it was counted to him for righteousness. 7¶ And he said to him, I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it. 8And Abram said, O LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? 9And he said to him, Take for yourself a heifer, three years old, a three year old ram, a three year old she-goat, a pigeon, and a young dove. 10And he took to himself all these, and cut them in two, and laid each piece against another; but the birds he did not divide. 11And when the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12¶ And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram; and, lo, fear and a great darkness fell upon him. 13And the LORD said to Abram, Know of a surety that your descendants shall be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and shall be in servitude: and they shall afflict them for four hundred years; 14But I will judge the nation which they shall serve; and afterward they shall come out with great wealth. 15And you shall depart from this life and go to your fathers in peace; and you shall be buried at a good old age. 16And after four centuries, they shall return here; for the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet full. 17¶ And it came to pass that when the sun had set and it was dark, behold there appeared a smoking furnace and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. 18On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your descendants have I given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: 19The land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, 20The Hittites, the Perizzites, the Giants, 21The Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites. (LAM) 1 Genesis 15:1-21
7And he said to him, "I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chalde'ans, to give you this land to possess." 8But he said, "O Lord GOD, how am I to know that I shall possess it?" 9He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a she-goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." 10And he brought him all these, cut them in two, and laid each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. 11And when birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram; and lo, a dread and great darkness fell upon him. 13Then the LORD said to Abram, "Know of a surety that your descendants will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and will be slaves there, and they will be oppressed for four hundred years; 14but I will bring judgment on the nation which they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15As for yourself, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. 16And they shall come back here in the fourth generation; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete." 17When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphra'tes, 19the land of the Ken'ites, the Ken'izzites, the Kad'monites, 20the Hittites, the Per'izzites, the Reph'aim, 21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Gir'gashites and the Jeb'usites."(RSV) 1 Genesis 15:1-21
2But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir." 4Then the word of the LORD came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir." 5He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars -- if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 6Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness. 7He also said to him, "I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it." 8But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?" 9So the LORD said to him, "Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon." 10Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half. 11Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away. 12As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. 13Then the LORD said to him, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated 400 years. 14But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. 15You, however, will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age. 16In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure." 17When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. 18On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates -- 19the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, 20Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, 21Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites."(NIV) 1 Genesis 15:1-21
2Abram said, 'Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?' 3Abram said, 'Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.' 4Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, 'This man will not be your heir, but he who will come forth out of your own body will be your heir.' 5Yahweh brought him outside, and said, 'Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.' He said to Abram, 'So shall your seed be.' 6He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness. 7He said to him, 'I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.' 8He said, 'Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?' 9He said to him, 'Take me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.' 10He took him all these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn't divide the birds. 11The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away. 12When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him. 13He said to Abram, 'Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years. 14I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great substance. 15But you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age. 16In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.' 17It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, 'To your seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: 19the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, 20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'(WEB) 1 Genesis 15:1-21

7And he said to him, I am Yahvah, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it. 8And Abram said, Oh Yahvah God, how will I know that I will inherit it? 9And he said to him, Take for yourself a heifer, 3 years old, a 3 year old ram, a 3 year old she-goat, a pigeon, and a young dove. 10And he took to himself all these, and cut them in 2, and laid each piece against another; but the birds he did not divide. 11And when the birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram; and, look, fear and a great darkness fell on him. 13And Yahvah said to Abram, Know for sure that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will be in servitude: and will be afflicted for 400 years; 14But I will judge the nation which they will serve; and afterward they will come out with great wealth. 15And you will depart from this life and go to your fathers in peace; and you will be buried at a good old age. 16And after 4 centuries, they will return here; for the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet full. 17And it came to pass that when the sun had set and it was dark, look there appeared a smoking furnace and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. 18On that day Yahvah made a contract with Abram, saying, To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: 19The land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, 20The Hittites, the Perizzites, the Giants, 21The Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
