64 Titus 1:1-16 1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of Gods elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; 3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; 4To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: 6If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. 7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. 10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: 11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucres sake. 12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. 13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; 14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. 15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.(KJV)

64 Titus 1:1-16 1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, 2in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before times eternal; 3but in his own seasons manifested his word in the message, wherewith I was intrusted according to the commandment of God our Saviour; 4to Titus, my true child after a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour. 5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that were wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave thee charge; 6if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children that believe, who are not accused of riot or unruly. 7For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; 8but given to hospitality, as lover of good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled; 9holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers. 10For there are many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision, 11whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 12One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons. 13This testimony is true. For which cause reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. 15To the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. 16They profess that they know God; but by their works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.(ASV)

64 Titus 1:1-16 1PAUL, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ in the faith of God's elect and in the knowledge of true godliness; 2In the hope of eternal life, which the true God promised ages ago; 3And has in due time revealed his word by our preaching (which preaching has been intrusted to me by the command of God our Saviour); 4To Titus, a true son in the common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5¶ For this cause I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are wanting and ordain elders in every city where there is a need as I had commanded you.

6¶ Appoint only an elder who is blameless and the husband of one wife, and one who has faithful children who do not swear and who are not intemperate. 7For an elder must be blameless, as a steward of God; and he must not be self-willed, not quick tempered, not excessive in the use of wine, not too ready to strike with his hand, not a lover of filthy lucre; 8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good things, sober, just, pious, and temperate of worldly desires; 9Holding fast the doctrine of faith, so that he may be able to comfort by his sound doctrine, and to rebuke those who are proud. 10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers of the people, especially those who belong to the circumcision, 11Whose mouths must be stopped, for they corrupt many families, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of filthy lucre. 12One of them, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, vicious beasts with empty bellies. 13This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14And not give heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who hate the truth. 15To the pure, all things are pure; but nothing is pure to those who are defiled and faithless; even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16They profess to know God, but in works they deny him, and they are abominable and disobedient, condemning every kind of good work. 64 Titus 1:1-16 1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to further the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth which accords with godliness, 2in hope of eternal life which God, who never lies, promised ages ago 3and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by command of God our Savior;

4To Titus, my true child in a common faith:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

5This is why I left you in Crete, that you might amend what was defective, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you, 6if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of being profligate or insubordinate. 7For a bishop, as God's steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8but hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled; 9he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to confute those who contradict it. 10For there are many insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially the circumcision party; 11they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for base gain what they have no right to teach. 12One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." 13This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14instead of giving heed to Jewish myths or to commands of men who reject the truth. 15To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are corrupted. 16They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good deed.(RSV)

64 Titus 1:1-16 1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness -- 2a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, 3and at his appointed season he brought his word to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

4To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

5The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. 6An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless -- not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

10For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. 11They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach -- and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." 13This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith 14and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth. 15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.(NIV)

64 Titus 1:1-16 1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's chosen ones, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, 2in hope of eternal life, which God, who can't lie, promised before eternal times; 3but in his own time revealed his word in the message with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior; 4to Titus, my true child according to a common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

5I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you; 6if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior. 7For the overseer must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain; 8but given to hospitality, as a lover of good, sober-minded, fair, holy, self-controlled; 9holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him. 10For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain's sake. 12One of them, a prophet of their own, said, 'Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons.' 13This testimony is true. For this cause, reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14not paying attention to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. 15To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. 16They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.(WEB)

64 Titus 1:1-16 1Paul, a servant of God, and an emissary of Yeshua the Messiah, according to the faith of God's chosen ones, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, 2in hope of eternal life, which God, who can't lie, promised before time began; 3but in his own time revealed his word in the message with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior; 4to Titus, my true child according to a common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah our Savior.
