62 First Peter 4:1-19 ¹Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; ²That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: ⁴Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: ⁵Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. ⁶For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

⁷But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. ⁸And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. ⁹Use hospitality one to another without grudging. ¹⁰As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ¹¹If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹²Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: ¹³But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christs sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. ¹⁴If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other mens matters. ¹⁶Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. ¹⁷For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? ¹⁸And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? ¹⁹Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.(KJV)

62 First Peter 4:1-19 ¹FORASMUCH then as Christ has suffered for you in the flesh, arm yourselves also with this very thought; he who subdues his body ceases from all sin, ²That he should no longer live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³For the time past sufficed to have wrought the will of the pagans when you lived in lasciviousness, drunkenness, revellings, indecent singing, and worship of idols.

⁴¶ And behold, they think it strange that you do not indulge with them in the past excesses, and they blaspheme against you. ⁵And they shall answer to God, who is to judge the quick and the dead. ⁶For, for this cause the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, and live according to God in spirit.

⁷¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be devout therefore, and be mindful of prayer. ⁸And above all things have fervent love toward one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. ⁹Be hospitable to strangers without grudging. ¹⁰So let everyone of you according to the gift he has received from God, minister the same to your fellowmen, like good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ¹¹If any man preach, let him preach the word of God; and if any man minister, let him do it according to the ability which God has given him, so that in everything you do, God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs glory and honour for ever and ever. Amen.

¹²¶ My beloved, do not think it strange at the trials that come upon you, as though some strange thing happened to you, because these things are to prove you. ¹³But rejoice, for you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; and when his glory shall be revealed you may be glad also with exceeding joy. ¹⁴If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you. ¹⁵But let none of you suffer the fate of a murderer or a thief or a malefactor. ¹⁶If any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God through that very name. ¹⁷For the time is come that judgment must begin with the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸And if the righteous scarcely be saved, how shall the wicked and the sinner stand judgment? ¹⁹Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to him in well doing as to a faithful Creator. 62 First Peter 4:1-19 ¹Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same thought, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ²so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer by human passions but by the will of God. ³Let the time that is past suffice for doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in licentiousness, passions, drunkenness, revels, carousing, and lawless idolatry. ⁴They are surprised that you do not now join them in the same wild profligacy, and they abuse you; ⁵but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. ⁶For this is why the gospel was preached even to the dead, that though judged in the flesh like men, they might live in the spirit like God.

⁷The end of all things is at hand; therefore keep sane and sober for your prayers. ⁸Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins. ⁹Practice hospitality ungrudgingly to one another. ¹⁰As each has received a gift, employ it for one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: ¹¹whoever speaks, as one who utters oracles of God; whoever renders service, as one who renders it by the strength which God supplies; in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹²Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to prove you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³But rejoice in so far as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. ¹⁵But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a mischief-maker; ¹⁶yet if one suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but under that name let him glorify God. ¹⁷For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸And "If the righteous man is scarcely saved, where will the impious and sinner appear?" ¹⁹Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will do right and entrust their souls to a faithful Creator.(RSV)

62 First Peter 4:1-19 ¹Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. ²As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. ³For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do -- living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. ⁴They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. ⁵But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. ⁶For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

⁷The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. ⁸Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. ⁹Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. ¹⁰Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. ¹¹If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

¹²Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. ¹⁶However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. ¹⁷For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"

¹⁹So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.(NIV)

⁴And look, they think it strange that you do not indulge with them in the past excesses, and they blaspheme against you. ⁵And they will answer to God, who is to judge the quick and the dead. ⁶For this cause the gospel was also preached to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, and live according to God in spirit.

⁷But the end of all things is at hand; be devout therefore, and be mindful of prayer. ⁸And above all things have fervent love toward one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. ⁹Be hospitable to strangers without grudging. ¹⁰So let everyone of you according to the gift he has received from God, minister the same to your fellow men, like good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ¹¹If any man preach, let him preach the word of God; and if any man minister, let him do it according to the ability which God has given him, so that in everything you do, God may be glorified through Jesus Messiah, to whom belongs glory and honor forever and ever. Amen.

¹²My beloved, do not think it strange at the trials that come on you, as though some strange thing happened to you, because these things are to prove you. ¹³But rejoice, for you are partakers of Messiah's sufferings; and when his glory will be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. ¹⁴If you are disgraced for the name of Messiah, you are blessed, for the glorious Spirit of God rests on you. ¹⁵But let none of you suffer the fate of a murderer or a thief or a malefactor. ¹⁶If any man suffers as a Messiahian, do not let him be ashamed, but let him glorify God through that very name. ¹⁷For the time is come that judgment must begin with the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸And if the righteous scarcely be saved, how will the wicked and the sinner stand judgment? ¹⁹Therefore, let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to him in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.
