58 Second Corinthians 8:1-24 1Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 2How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 3For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; 4Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. 6Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. 7Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 8I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. 9For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 10And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. 11Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. 12For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 13For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 14But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 15As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. 16But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. 17For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you. 18And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 19And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: 20Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: 21Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. 23Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ. 24Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.(KJV)

24Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.(KJV/NC)

58 Second Corinthians 8:1-24 1Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God which hath been given in the churches of Macedonia; 2how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 3For according to their power, I bear witness, yea and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord, 4beseeching us with much entreaty in regard of this grace and the fellowship in the ministering to the saints: 5and this, not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God. 6Insomuch that we exhorted Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace also. 7But as ye abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 8I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. 9For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich. 10And herein I give my judgment: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to make a beginning a year ago, not only to do, but also to will. 11But now complete the doing also; that as there was the readiness to will, so there may be the completion also out of your ability. 12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according as a man hath, not according as he hath not. 13For I say not this that others may be eased and ye distressed; 14but by equality: your abundance being a supply at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become a supply for your want; that there may be equality: 15as it is written, He that gathered much had nothing over; and he that gathered little had no lack. 16But thanks be to God, who putteth the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17For he accepted indeed our exhortation; but being himself very earnest, he went forth unto you of his own accord. 18And we have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the gospel is spread through all the churches; 19and not only so, but who was also appointed by the churches to travel with us in the matter of this grace, which is ministered by us to the glory of the Lord, and to show our readiness: 20Avoiding this, that any man should blame us in the matter of this bounty which is ministered by us: 21for we take thought for things honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22and we have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he hath in you. 23Whether any inquire about Titus, he is my partner and my fellow-worker to you-ward, or our brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, they are the glory of Christ. 24Show ye therefore unto them in the face of the churches the proof of your love, and of our glorying on your behalf.(ASV)

58 Second Corinthians 8:1-24 1MOREOVER, our brethren, we want you to know that the grace of God has been bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 2How that in a great trial of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their deep-rooted poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality. 3For to their power, I can testify, yes, and beyond their power they have shared of their own accord, 4And besought us most earnestly that they might be partakers in the gift for the ministration to the saints. 5And this they did, not only as we expected, but first they gave themselves to our Lord, and then to us by the will of God. 6Insomuch as we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish this same gift among you.

7¶ Therefore, as you abound in every thing, in faith, in the word of God, in knowledge, in all perseverance, and by our love toward you, you should likewise excel in this gracious favor also. 8I am not making a demand on you, but I am prompted by the devotion of your fellow believers to test the sincerity of your love. 9For you know the gracious gift of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you, through his poverty, might be rich. 10Herein I give you my advice, that it may help you to go forward and accomplish what you, of your own accord, began to do last year. 11Now therefore perform by works that which you wished to do; and as you were eager to promise it, so fulfil from that which you have. 12For if there is a willingness to give, every man can give according to that which he has, and not according to that which he has not, and his gift will be acceptable. 13This is not intended to relieve other men and add a burden to you; 14But that there may be an equality at this particular time, that your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want, that there may be equality. 15As it is written, He who had gathered much had nothing over; and he who had gathered little had no lack.

16¶ But thanks be to God, who put the same vigorous care into the heart of Titus for you. 17For indeed he has accepted our appeal; and because he was very desirous, he went to you of his own accord. 18And we have also sent with him our brother, who has received praise throughout all the churches for his preaching of the gospel; 19So that he also has been chosen by the churches to travel with us for this relief which is administered by us to the very glory of God and for our own encouragement; 20But we are careful in this, lest any one should blame us in connection with this generous help which is administered by us. 21For we are very careful to do the right thing, not only in the presence of God, but also in the presence of men. 22And we have sent with them also our brother, who has often been proved by us in many things, that he is earnest, and now is more earnest because of the abundant trust he has in you. 23And as to Titus, he is my partner and helper among you; and as to our other brethren, they are the apostles of the churches to the glory of Christ. 24Henceforth you can show to them before all the churches the proof of your love and of our pride in you. (LAM)

58 Second Corinthians 8:1-24 1We want you to know, brethren, about the grace of God which has been shown in the churches of Macedo'nia, 2for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of liberality on their part. 3For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own free will, 4begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints-- 5and this, not as we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God. 6Accordingly we have urged Titus that as he had already made a beginning, he should also complete among you this gracious work. 7Now as you excel in everything--in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for us--see that you excel in this gracious work also.

8I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. 9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. 10And in this matter I give my advice: it is best for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to desire, 11so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. 12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not. 13I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, 14but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality. 15As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack."

16But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going to you of his own accord. 18With him we are sending the brother who is famous among all the churches for his preaching of the gospel; 19and not only that, but he has been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work which we are carrying on, for the glory of the Lord and to show our good will. 20We intend that no one should blame us about this liberal gift which we are administering, 21for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord's sight but also in the sight of men. 22And with them we are sending our brother whom we have often tested and found earnest in many matters, but who is now more earnest than ever because of his great confidence in you. 23As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker in your service; and as for our brethren, they are messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ. 24So give proof, before the churches, of your love and of our boasting about you to these men.(RSV)

58 Second Corinthians 8:1-24 1And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. 5And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will. 6So we urged Titus, since he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part. 7But just as you excel in everything -- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us -- see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

8I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. 9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

10And here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. 11Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

13Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. 14At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, 15as it is written: "He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little."

16I thank God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you. 17For Titus not only welcomed our appeal, but he is coming to you with much enthusiasm and on his own initiative. 18And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his service to the gospel. 19What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help. 20We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. 21For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.

22In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you. 23As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ. 24Therefore show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it.(NIV)

58 Second Corinthians 8:1-24 1Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia; 2how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality. 3For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord, 4begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints. 5This was not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God. 6So we urged Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace. 7But as youP abound in everything, in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that youP also abound in this grace. 8I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. 9For youP know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that youP through his poverty might become rich. 10I give a judgment in this: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to start a year ago, not only to do, but also to be willing. 11But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability. 12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you don't have. 13For this is not that others may be eased and youP distressed, 14but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack; that there may be equality. 15As it is written, 'He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.'

16But thanks be to God, who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17For he indeed accepted our exhortation, but being himself very earnest, he went out to you of his own accord. 18We have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the Gospel is known through all the assemblies. 19Not only so, but who was also appointed by the assemblies to travel with us in this grace, which is served by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and to show our readiness. 20We are avoiding this, that any man should blame us concerning this abundance which is administered by us. 21Having regard for honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22We have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he has in you. 23As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you. 16But thanks be to God, who put the same vigorous care into the heart of Titus for you. 17For indeed he has accepted our appeal; and because he very much desired, he went to you of his own accord. 18And we have also sent with him our brother, who has received praise throughout all the churches for his preaching of the gospel; 19So that he has also been chosen by the churches to travel with us for this relief which is administered by us to the very glory of God and for our own encouragement; 20But we are careful in this, lest anyone should blame us in connection with this generous help which is administered by us. 21For we are very careful to do the right thing, not only in the presence of God, but also in the presence of men. 22And we have also sent with them our brother, who has often been proved by us in many things, that he is earnest, and now is more earnest because of the abundant trust he has in you. 23And as for Titus, he is my partner and helper among you; and as for our other brothers, they are the apostles of the churches to the glory of Messiah. 24From now on you can show them, before all the churches, the proof of your love and of our pride in you.
