54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21And having an high priest over the house of God; 22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28He that despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; 33Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. 34For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. 35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.(KJV)

54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh. 2Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance made of sins year by year. 4For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. 5Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith,

Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not,

But a body didst thou prepare for me;

6In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:

7Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me)

To do thy will, O God.

8Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law), 9then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins: 12but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet. 14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said,

16This is the covenant that I will make with them

After those days, saith the Lord:

I will put my laws on their heart,

And upon their mind also will I write them;

then saith he,

17And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21and having a great priest over the house of God; 22let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water, 23let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised: 24and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works; 25not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh. 26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries. 28A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses: 29of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings; 33partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used. 34For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of you possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one. 35Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward. 36For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

37For yet a very little while,

He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.

38But my righteous one shall live by faith:

And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.

39But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.(ASV)

54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1FOR the law had in it a shadow of the good things to come, but was not the essence of the things themselves; hence although the same sacrifices were offered every year, they could not perfect those who offered them. 2For if they had once been perfected, they would have ceased from their offerings; for, from henceforth their minds would not have driven them into the sins from which they had once been cleansed. 3But in those sacrifices they remembered their sins every year. 4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats could take away sins. 5Therefore, when he entered into the world, he said, Sacrifices and offerings thou didst not desire, but a body thou hast prepared me; 6Burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required.

7¶ Then said I, Lo, I come; in the beginning of the books, it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O God. 8Above when he said, Sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and offerings for sins, thou wouldst not have, the very ones which were offered according to the law; 9And after that he said, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. Thus he put an end to the first in order to establish the second. 10By this very will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11For every high priest appointed ministered daily, offering the same sacrifices, which had never been able to cleanse sins; 12But this one after he had offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down on the right hand of God for ever. 13From henceforth there he will remain until his enemies are placed as a stool under his feet. 14For by one offering he has perfected for ever those who are sanctified. 15The Holy Spirit is also a witness to us; for he had said before, 16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord, I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. 17And their iniquities and sins will I remember no more. 18For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is no need for offering for sins.

19¶ Having therefore, my brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way which he has made new for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, 21And having a great high priest over the house of God, 22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled and cleansed of evil thought and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us remain firm in the profession of our faith without wavering, for he who has promised us is faithful. 24And let us consider one another to arouse love and good works, 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is customary for some; but exhorting one another, and so much the more when you see that day approaching. 26For if any man sin willfully after he has received the knowledge of the truth, then there is no more sacrifice to be offered for sins, 27But he is ready for the fearful judgment and the fiery indignation which shall consume the adversaries. 28He who transgressed the law of Moses, on the word of two or three witnesses, died without mercy: 29How much more punishment do you think he will receive who has trodden underfoot the Son of God, and has considered the blood of his covenant, through which he had been sanctified, as ordinary blood and has blasphemed the Spirit of Grace? 30For we know him who said, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32Remember, therefore, the former days, in which, after you received baptism, you endured many tribulations. 33By reproach and trouble you were made an object of ridicule; and you have also become companions of those men who have also endured these things. 34And you had pity on those who were prisoners, and you took the seizure of your property cheerfully, for you know in yourselves that you have a better and a more enduring possession in heaven. 35Do not lose, therefore, the confidence that you have, for it has a great reward. 36For you have need of patience in order that you may do the will of God and receive the promise. 37For the time is all too short, and he who is to come will come and will not delay. 38But the righteous shall live by my faith; and if any draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39But we do not belong to those who draw back to perdition, but to the faith which restores our souls. (LAM)

54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices which are continually offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near. 2Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered? If the worshipers had once been cleansed, they would no longer have any consciousness of sin. 3But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sin year after year. 4For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.

5Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, "Sacrifices and offerings thou hast not desired, but a body hast thou prepared for me; 6in burnt offerings and sin offerings thou hast taken no pleasure. 7Then I said, `Lo, I have come to do thy will, O God,' as it is written of me in the roll of the book." 8When he said above, "Thou hast neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law), 9then he added, "Lo, I have come to do thy will." He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. 10And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13then to wait until his enemies should be made a stool for his feet. 14For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. 15And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, 16"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds," 17then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their misdeeds no more." 18Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

19Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, 20by the new and living way which he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful; 24and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

26For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries. 28A man who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy at the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by the man who has spurned the Son of God, and profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people." 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, 33sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. 34For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. 35Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36For you have need of endurance, so that you may do the will of God and receive what is promised.

37"For yet a little while, and the coming one shall come and shall not tarry; 38but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him."

39But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and keep their souls.(RSV)

54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming -- not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. 2If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. 3But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, 4because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; 6with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. 7Then I said, `Here I am -- it is written about me in the scroll -- I have come to do your will, O God.'" 8First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). 9Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. 13Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, 14because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

15The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 16"This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." 17Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." 18And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.

19Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." 31It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. 33Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

35So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. 38But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." 39But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.(NIV)

54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. 2Or else wouldn't they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? 3But in those sacrifices there is yearly reminder of sins. 4For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. 5Therefore when he comes into the world, he says,

'Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire,
But a body did you prepare for me;

6In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure.
7Then I said, 'Behold, I have come (In the scroll of the book it is written of me)
To do your will, God.''

8Previously saying, 'Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn't desire, neither had pleasure in them' (those which are offered according to the law), 9then he has said, 'Behold, I have come to do your will.' He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, 10by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11Every priest indeed stands day by day ministering and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, 12but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet. 14For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. 15The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,

16'This is the covenant that I will make with them:
'After those days,' says the Lord,

'I will put my laws on their heart,
I will also write them on their mind;''

then he says,

17'I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.'

18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21and having a great priest over the house of God, 22let's draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, 23let us hold fast the confession of our hope unyieldingly. For he who promised is faithful.

24Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, 25not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as youP see the Day approaching. 26For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. 28A man who disregards Moses' law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. 29How much worse punishment, do youP think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him who said, 'Vengeance belongs to me,' says the Lord, 'I will repay.' Again, 'The Lord will judge his people.' 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32But remember the former days, in which, after youP were enlightened, youP endured a great struggle with sufferings; 33partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions; and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so. 34For youP both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that youP have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens. 35Therefore don't throw away your boldness, which has a great reward. 36For youP need endurance so that, having done the will of God, youP may receive the promise.

37'In a very little while,
He who comes will come, and will not wait.

38But the righteous will live by faith.
If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.'

54 Hebrews 10:1-39 1FOR the law had in it a shadow of the good things to come, but was not the essence of the things themselves; for this reason, although the same sacrifices were offered every year, they could not perfect those who offered them. 2For if they had once been perfected, they would have ceased from their offerings; for, from then on their minds would not have driven them into the sins from which they had once been cleansed. 3But in those sacrifices they remembered their sins every year. 4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats could take away sins. 5Therefore, when he entered into the world, he said, Sacrifices and offerings you did not desire, but a body you have prepared me; 6Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.

7Then I said, Look, I come; in the beginning of the books, it is written of me, I delight to do your will, oh God. 8Above when he said, Sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and offerings for sins, you would not have, the very ones which were offered according to the law; 9And after that he said, Look, I come to do your will, oh God. Thus he put an end to the first in order to establish the 2nd. 10By this very will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Messiah once for all. 11For every high priest appointed ministered daily, offering the same sacrifices, which had never been able to cleanse sins; 12But this one after he had offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down on the right hand of God forever. 13From now on he will remain there until his enemies are placed as a stool under his feet. 14For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified. 15The Holy Spirit is also a witness to us; for he had said before, 16This is the contract that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord, I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. 17And their iniquities and sins I will not remember any longer. 18For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is no need for offering for sins.

19Having therefore, my brothers, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way which he has made new for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, 21And having a great high priest over the house of God, 22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled and cleansed of evil thought and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us remain firm in the profession of our faith without wavering, for he who has promised us is faithful. 24And let us consider one another to arouse love and good works, 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is customary for some; but exhorting one another, and so much more when you see that day approaching. 26For if any man sin willfully after he has received the knowledge of the truth, then there is no sacrifice to be offered for sins any longer, 27But he is ready for the fearful judgment and the fiery indignation which will consume the adversaries. 28He who transgressed the law of Moses, on the word of 2 or 3 witnesses, died without mercy: 29How much more punishment do you think he will receive who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has considered the blood of his contract, through which he had been sanctified, as ordinary blood and has blasphemed the Spirit of Grace? 30For we know him who said, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32Remember, therefore, the former days, in which, after you received baptism, you endured many tribulations. 33By disgrace and trouble you were made an object of ridicule; and you have also become companions of those men who have also endured these things. 38But the righteous will live by my faith; and if any draw back, my soul will have no pleasure in him. 39But we do not belong to those who draw back to perdition, but to the faith which restores our souls.
