46 First Thessalonians 5:1-28 ¹But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. ²For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. ³For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. ⁴But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. ⁹For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. ¹¹Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

¹²And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; ¹³And to esteem them very highly in love for their works sake. And be at peace among yourselves. ¹⁴Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. ¹⁵See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. ¹⁶Rejoice evermore. ¹⁷Pray without ceasing. ¹⁸In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. ¹⁹Quench not the Spirit. ²⁰Despise not prophesyings. ²¹Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. ²²Abstain from all appearance of evil. ²³And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

²⁵Brethren, pray for us.

²⁶Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. ²⁷I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

Be at peace among yourselves. ¹⁴And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all. ¹⁵See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all. ¹⁶Rejoice always; ¹⁷pray without ceasing; ¹⁸in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward. ¹⁹Quench not the Spirit; ²⁰despise not prophesyings; ²¹prove all things; hold fast that which is good; ²²abstain from every form of evil. ²³And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴Faithful is he that calleth you, who will also do it. ²⁵Brethren, pray for us. ²⁶Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss. ²⁷I adjure you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the brethren. ²⁸The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.(ASV)

⁶¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. ⁷For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸But let us who are the children of the day be alert, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet put on the hope of salvation. ⁹For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰Who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we shall live together with him.

¹¹¶ Wherefore comfort one another and edify one another, even as also you do. ¹²We beseech you, my brethren, to respect those who labor among you and admonish you in our Lord and teach you, ¹³That you esteem them very highly in love, and be at peace with them for their work's sake. ¹⁴Now we beseech you, my brethren, correct those who offend, comfort those who lack courage, bear the burdens of the weak, and be patient toward all men. ¹⁵See that none of you render evil for evil; but always follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

¹⁶¶ Be joyful always. ¹⁷Pray without ceasing. ¹⁸In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Jesus Christ concerning you. ¹⁹Do not quench the Spirit. ²⁰Do not reject prophecies. ²¹Prove all things, uphold that which is good. ²²Abstain from every sort of evil.

²³¶ May the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved without blemish to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴Faithful is he who has called you, and he will keep his word. ²⁵My brethren, pray for us. ²⁶Salute all our brethren with a holy kiss. ²⁷I adjure you by our Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren. ²⁸The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. ²³May the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

46 First Thessalonians 5:1-28 ¹Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, ²for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

⁴But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. ⁵You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. ⁶So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. ⁷For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. ⁸But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. ⁹For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁰He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. ¹¹Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

¹²Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. ¹³Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. ¹⁴And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. ¹⁵Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.

¹⁶Be joyful always; ¹⁷pray continually; ¹⁸give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

¹⁹Do not put out the Spirit's fire; ²⁰do not treat prophecies with contempt. ²¹Test everything. Hold on to the good. ²²Avoid every kind of evil.

²³May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

²⁵Brothers, pray for us. ²⁶Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. ²⁷I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.

46 First Thessalonians 5:1-28 ¹BUT of the times and seasons, my brothers, you have no need that I should write to you. ²For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of our Lord comes like a thief in the night. ³For when they will say, Peace and tranquility; then sudden destruction will come on them, as travail on a pregnant woman; and they will not escape. ⁴But you, my brothers, are not in darkness that that day will overtake you as a thief. ⁵You are all the children of light and the children of the day; and you are not the children of the night nor the children of darkness.

⁶Therefore, do not let us sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. ⁷For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunk are drunk in the night. ⁸But let us who are the children of the day be alert, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet put on the hope of salvation. ⁹For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Messiah, ¹⁰Who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we will live together with him.

¹¹Therefore, comfort one another and edify one another, even as you also do. ¹²We beg you, my brothers, to respect those who labor among you and admonish you in our Lord and teach you, ¹³That you esteem them very highly in love, and be at peace with them for their work's sake. ¹⁴Now we beg you, my brothers, correct those who offend, comfort those who lack courage, bear the burdens of the weak, and be patient toward all men. ¹⁵See that none of you render evil for evil; but always follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

¹⁶Be joyful always. ¹⁷Pray without ceasing. ¹⁸In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Jesus Messiah concerning you. ¹⁹Do not quench the Spirit. ²⁰Do not reject prophecies. ²¹Prove all things, uphold that which is good. ²²Abstain from every sort of evil.

²³May the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved without blemish to the coming of our Lord Jesus Messiah. ²⁴Faithful is he who has called you, and he will keep his word. ²⁵My brothers, pray for us. ²⁶Salute all our brothers with a holy kiss. ²⁷I adjure you by our Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brothers. ²⁸The grace of our Lord Jesus Messiah be with you.
