²When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice;

But when a wicked man beareth rule, the people sigh.

³Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father;

But he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.

⁴The king by justice establisheth the land;

But he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.

⁵A man that flattereth his neighbor

Spreadeth a net for his steps.

⁶In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare;

But the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

⁷The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor;

The wicked hath not understanding to know it.

⁸Scoffers set a city in a flame;

But wise men turn away wrath.

⁹If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man,

Whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.

¹⁰The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect;

And as for the upright, they seek his life.

¹¹A fool uttereth all his anger;

But a wise man keepeth it back and stilleth it.

¹²If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood,

All his servants are wicked.

¹³The poor man and the oppressor meet together;

Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.

¹⁴The king that faithfully judgeth the poor,

His throne shall be established for ever.

¹⁵The rod and reproof give wisdom;

But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.

¹⁶When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth;

But the righteous shall look upon their fall.

¹⁷Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest;

Yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.

¹⁸Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint;

But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

¹⁹A servant will not be corrected by words;

For though he understand, he will not give heed.

²⁰Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words?

There is more hope of a fool than of him.

²¹He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child

Shall have him become a son at the last.

²²An angry man stirreth up strife,

And a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.

²³A man's pride shall bring him low;

But he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honor.

²⁴Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul;

He heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.

²⁵The fear of man bringeth a snare;

But whoso putteth his trust in Jehovah shall be safe.

²⁶Many seek the ruler's favor;

But a man's judgment cometh from Jehovah.

²¶ When the righteous are many, the people increase; but when the wicked are in authority, the people groan.

³¶ He who loves wisdom rejoices his father; but he who keeps company with harlots shall lose his substance.

⁴¶ The king by justice enriches the land; but a wicked man causes it to be in want.

⁵¶ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

⁶¶ An evil man shall be ensnared in his wickedness; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.

⁷¶ A righteous man considers the cause of the poor; but the wicked has no understanding to regard it.

⁸¶ Scornful men set cities on fire; but wise men turn away wrath.

⁹¶ A wise man contends with a fool, and when he is angry, he laughs and does not scoff.

¹⁰¶ Bloodthirsty men hate the innocent; but the righteous have compassion upon them.

¹¹¶ A fool utters all his wrath; but a wise man uses his mind.

¹²¶ If a ruler listens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

¹³¶ The poor man and the oppressor meet together, and the LORD lightens the eves of both.

¹⁴¶ The king who faithfully judges the people, his throne shall be established for ever.

¹⁵¶ The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child who lacks discipline brings shame upon his mother.

¹⁶¶ When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases; but the righteous shall rejoice in their fall.

¹⁷¶ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yea, he shall give delight to your soul.

¹⁸¶ When the wicked men multiply, the people are ruined; but he who keeps the law, blessed is he.

²⁴¶ He who is a partner with a thief hates his own soul; they put him under oaths, but he does not confess.

²⁵¶ The iniquity of a man becomes a stumblingblock to him; but he who puts his trust in the LORD shall become strong.

²⁶¶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but a man's judgment comes from the LORD.

29 Proverbs of Solomon 29:1-27 ¹He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck will suddenly be broken beyond healing. ²When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan. ³He who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but one who keeps company with harlots squanders his substance. ⁴By justice a king gives stability to the land, but one who exacts gifts ruins it. ⁵A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. ⁶An evil man is ensnared in his transgression, but a righteous man sings and rejoices. ⁷A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge. ⁸Scoffers set a city aflame, but wise men turn away wrath. ⁹If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet. ¹⁰Bloodthirsty men hate one who is blameless, and the wicked seek his life. ¹¹A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man quietly holds it back. ¹²If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked. ¹³The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the LORD gives light to the eyes of both. ¹⁴If a king judges the poor with equity his throne will be established for ever. ¹⁵The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. ¹⁶When the wicked are in authority, transgression increases; but the righteous will look upon their downfall. ¹⁷Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart. ¹⁸Where there is no prophecy the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law. ¹⁹By mere words a servant is not disciplined, for though he understands, he will not give heed. ²⁰Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. ²¹He who pampers his servant from childhood, will in the end find him his heir. ²²A man of wrath stirs up strife, and a man given to anger causes much transgression. ²³A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor. ²⁴The partner of a thief hates his own life; he hears the curse, but discloses nothing. ²⁵The fear of man lays a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD is safe. ²⁶Many seek the favor of a ruler, but from the LORD a man gets justice. ²⁷An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, but he whose way is straight is an abomination to the wicked.
