27 Job 41:1-34 1Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? 2Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn? 3Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee? 4Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? 5Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? 6Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants? 7Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears? 8Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more. 9Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? 10None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? 11Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. 12I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion. 13Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle? 14Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about. 15His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. 16One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. 17They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. 18By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. 19Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. 20Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. 21His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. 22In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. 23The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. 24His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. 25When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves. 26The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. 27He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. 28The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble. 29Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. 30Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. 31He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. 32He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. 33Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. 34He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.(KJV)

27 Job 41:1-34 1Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook?

Or press down his tongue with a cord?

2Canst thou put a rope into his nose?

Or pierce his jaw through with a hook?

3Will he make many supplications unto thee?

Or will he speak soft words unto thee?

4Will he make a covenant with thee,

That thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?

5Wilt thou play with him as with a bird?

Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

6Will the bands of fishermen make traffic of him?

Will they part him among the merchants?

7Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons,

Or his head with fish-spears?

8Lay thy hand upon him;

Remember the battle, and do so no more.

9Behold, the hope of him is in vain:

Will not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

10None is so fierce that he dare stir him up;

Who then is he that can stand before me?

11Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him?

Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

12I will not keep silence concerning his limbs,

Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.

13Who can strip off his outer garment?

Who shall come within his jaws?

14Who can open the doors of his face?

Round about his teeth is terror.

15His strong scales are his pride,

Shut up together as with a close seal.

16One is so near to another,

That no air can come between them.

17They are joined one to another;

They stick together, so that they cannot be sundered.

18His sneezings flash forth light,

And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

19Out of his mouth go burning torches,

And sparks of fire leap forth.

20Out of his nostrils a smoke goeth,

As of a boiling pot and burning rushes.

21His breath kindleth coals,

And a flame goeth forth from his mouth.

22In his neck abideth strength,

And terror danceth before him.

23The flakes of his flesh are joined together:

They are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.

24His heart is as firm as a stone;

Yea, firm as the nether millstone.

25When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid:

By reason of consternation they are beside themselves.

26If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail;

Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.

27He counteth iron as straw,

And brass as rotten wood.

28The arrow cannot make him flee:

Sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.

29Clubs are counted as stubble:

He laugheth at the rushing of the javelin.

30His underparts are like sharp potsherds:

He spreadeth as it were a threshing-wain upon the mire.

31He maketh the deep to boil like a pot:

He maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

32He maketh a path to shine after him;

One would think the deep to be hoary.

33Upon earth there is not his like,

That is made without fear.

34He beholdeth everything that is high:(ASV)

27 Job 41:1-34 1CAN you catch the Leviathan with a hook? Or draw him out with a cord in his mouth? 2Can you put a bridle in his mouth? Or bore his jaw with a thorn? 3Will he make many supplications to you? Or will he speak flattering words to you? 4Will he make a covenant with you? Or will you count him as a servant for ever? 5Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you keep him as a pet for your children? 6Shall fishermen gather over him? Shall they divide him among many people? 7Can you fill his skin with meat? Or bake his head with fire? 8Try to capture him; such a battle you will have! You will never forget it. 9Behold, Job, you now are set free from your afflictions. So your God will also remove your bitterness. 10One cannot go far off when Leviathan is stirred up; but who then is able to stand before me?

11¶ Who has pre-eminence over me, so that I should surrender? 12Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine. 13I will not keep silence because of his power, and the might of his sinews. 14Who has removed his skin? Who can come near him when the net is lowered? 15Who can open the doors of his mouth? His teeth are terrible round about. 16His mouth is tied up, and closely shut, as with a seal. 17His teeth are so close together that no air can come between them. 18They are joined one to another, they stick together so that they cannot be separated. 19His appearance is full of light, and his eyes are like rays of the dawn. 20Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. 21Out of his nostrils goes smoke, like a flame spreading round the sides of a pot. 22His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. 23He has great strength in his neck, and fear is to him like dancing. 24His meat is good and fat, and it is nourishing. 25His heart is never made to quake for fear, but is firm like a stone; yea as hard as flint. 26Because of the fear of him, the mighty are afraid; 27And the strong are humbled. 28The wound of the sword is of no effect; the lances of the mighty he removes. 29He considers iron like straw, and brass like rotten wood. 30The bow cannot make him flee; he treats slingstones as stubble. 31He laughs at the spear; he is at home in the deep as if he were on the dry land. 32With his strong body he walks upon the ground. 33He brings to destruction whatever is proud. 34He is a king over all things in the deep. 27 Job 41:1-34 1"Can you draw out Levi'athan with a fishhook, or press down his tongue with a cord? 2Can you put a rope in his nose, or pierce his jaw with a hook? 3Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak to you soft words? 4Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant for ever? 5Will you play with him as with a bird, or will you put him on leash for your maidens? 6Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants? 7Can you fill his skin with harpoons, or his head with fishing spears? 8Lay hands on him; think of the battle; you will not do it again! 9Behold, the hope of a man is disappointed; he is laid low even at the sight of him. 10No one is so fierce that he dares to stir him up. Who then is he that can stand before me? 11Who has given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine. 12"I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, or his mighty strength, or his goodly frame. 13Who can strip off his outer garment? Who can penetrate his double coat of mail? 14Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror. 15His back is made of rows of shields, shut up closely as with a seal. 16One is so near to another that no air can come between them. 17They are joined one to another; they clasp each other and cannot be separated. 18His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn. 19Out of his mouth go flaming torches; sparks of fire leap forth. 20Out of his nostrils comes forth smoke, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. 21His breath kindles coals, and a flame comes forth from his mouth. 22In his neck abides strength, and terror dances before him. 23The folds of his flesh cleave together, firmly cast upon him and immovable. 24His heart is hard as a stone, hard as the nether millstone. 25When he raises himself up the mighty are afraid; at the crashing they are beside themselves. 26Though the sword reaches him, it does not avail; nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin. 27He counts iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. 28The arrow cannot make him flee; for him slingstones are turned to stubble. 29Clubs are counted as stubble; he laughs at the rattle of javelins. 30His underparts are like sharp potsherds; he spreads himself like a threshing sledge on the mire. 31He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. 32Behind him he leaves a shining wake; one would think the deep to be hoary. 33Upon earth there is not his like, a creature without fear. 34He beholds everything that is high; he is king over all the sons of pride." (RSV)

27 Job 41:1-34 1"Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook or tie down his tongue with a rope? 2Can you put a cord through his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook? 3Will he keep begging you for mercy? Will he speak to you with gentle words? 4Will he make an agreement with you for you to take him as your slave for life? 5Can you make a pet of him like a bird or put him on a leash for your girls? 6Will traders barter for him? Will they divide him up among the merchants? 7Can you fill his hide with harpoons or his head with fishing spears? 8If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the struggle and never do it again! 9Any hope of subduing him is false; the mere sight of him is overpowering. 10No one is fierce enough to rouse him. Who then is able to stand against me? 11Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me. 12"I will not fail to speak of his limbs, his strength and his graceful form. 13Who can strip off his outer coat? Who would approach him with a bridle? 14Who dares open the doors of his mouth, ringed about with his fearsome teeth? 15His back has rows of shields tightly sealed together; 16each is so close to the next that no air can pass between. 17They are joined fast to one another; they cling together and cannot be parted. 18His snorting throws out flashes of light; his eyes are like the rays of dawn. 19Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out. 20Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds. 21His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames dart from his mouth. 22Strength resides in his neck; dismay goes before him. 23The folds of his flesh are tightly joined; they are firm and immovable. 24His chest is hard as rock, hard as a lower millstone. 25When he rises up, the mighty are terrified; they retreat before his thrashing. 26The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin. 27Iron he treats like straw and bronze like rotten wood. 28Arrows do not make him flee; slingstones are like chaff to him. 29A club seems to him but a piece of straw; he laughs at the rattling of the lance. 30His undersides are jagged potsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge. 31He makes the depths churn like a boiling caldron and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment. 32Behind him he leaves a glistening wake; one would think the deep had white hair. 33Nothing on earth is his equal -- a creature without fear. 34He looks down on all that are haughty; he is king over all that are proud."(NIV)
