26 Psalms 44:1-26 ¹לַמְנַצֵּ֬חַ לִבְנֵי־ קֹ֬רַח מַשְׂכִּֽיל׃ ²אֱלֹהִ֤ים׀ בְּאָזְנֵ֬ינוּ שָׁמַ֗עְנוּ אֲבוֹתֵ֥ינוּ סִפְּרוּ־ לָ֑נוּ פֹּ֥עַל פָּעַ֥לְתָּ בִֽ֝ימֵיהֶ֗ם בִּ֣ימֵי קֶֽדֶם׃ ³אַתָּ֤ה׀ יָדְךָ֡ גּוֹיִ֣ם ה֭וֹרַשְׁתָּ וַתִּטָּעֵ֑ם תָּרַ֥ע לְ֝אֻמִּ֗ים וַֽתְּשַׁלְּחֵֽם׃ ⁴כִּ֤י לֹ֪א בְחַרְבָּ֡ם יָ֥רְשׁוּ אָ֗רֶץ וּזְרוֹעָם֮ לֹא־ הוֹשִׁ֪יעָ֫ה לָּ֥מוֹ כִּֽי־ יְמִֽינְךָ֣ וּ֭זְרוֹעֲךָ וְא֥וֹר פָּנֶ֗יךָ כִּ֣י רְצִיתָֽם׃ ⁵אַתָּה־ ה֣וּא מַלְכִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים צַ֝וֵּ֗ה יְשׁוּע֥וֹת יַעֲקֹֽב׃ ⁶בְּ֭ךָ צָרֵ֣ינוּ נְנַגֵּ֑חַ בְּ֝שִׁמְךָ֗ נָב֥וּס קָמֵֽינוּ׃ ⁷כִּ֤י לֹ֣א בְקַשְׁתִּ֣י אֶבְטָ֑ח וְ֝חַרְבִּ֗י לֹ֣א תוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃ ⁸כִּ֣י ה֭וֹשַׁעְתָּנוּ מִצָּרֵ֑ינוּ וּמְשַׂנְאֵ֥ינוּ הֱבִישֽׁוֹתָ׃ ⁹בֵּֽ֭אלֹהִים הִלַּלְ֣נוּ כָל־ הַיּ֑וֹם וְשִׁמְךָ֓׀ לְעוֹלָ֖ם נוֹדֶ֣ה סֶֽלָה׃ ¹⁰אַף־ זָ֭נַחְתָּ וַתַּכְלִימֵ֑נוּ וְלֹא־ תֵ֝צֵ֗א בְּצִבְאוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ ¹¹תְּשִׁיבֵ֣נוּ אָ֭חוֹר מִנִּי־ צָ֑ר וּ֝מְשַׂנְאֵ֗ינוּ שָׁ֣סוּ לָֽמוֹ׃ ¹²תִּ֭תְּנֵנוּ כְּצֹ֣אן מַאֲכָ֑ל וּ֝בַגּוֹיִ֗ם זֵרִיתָֽנוּ׃ ¹³תִּמְכֹּֽר־ עַמְּךָ֥ בְלֹא־ ה֑וֹן וְלֹ֥א־ רִ֝בִּ֗יתָ בִּמְחִירֵיהֶֽם׃ ¹⁴תְּשִׂימֵ֣נוּ חֶ֭רְפָּה לִשְׁכֵנֵ֑ינוּ לַ֥עַג וָ֝קֶ֗לֶס לִסְבִיבוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ ¹⁵תְּשִׂימֵ֣נוּ מָ֭שָׁל בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם מְנֽוֹד־ רֹ֝֗אשׁ בַּל־ אֻמִּֽים׃ ¹⁶כָּל־ הַ֭יּוֹם כְּלִמָּתִ֣י נֶגְדִּ֑י וּבֹ֖שֶׁת פָּנַ֣י כִּסָּֽתְנִי׃ ¹⁷מִ֭קּוֹל מְחָרֵ֣ף וּמְגַדֵּ֑ף מִפְּנֵ֥י א֝וֹיֵ֗ב וּמִתְנַקֵּֽם׃ ¹⁸כָּל־ זֹ֣את בָּ֭אַתְנוּ וְלֹ֣א שְׁכַחֲנ֑וּךָ וְלֹֽא־ שִׁ֝קַּ֗רְנוּ בִּבְרִיתֶֽךָ׃ ¹⁹לֹא־ נָס֣וֹג אָח֣וֹר לִבֵּ֑נוּ וַתֵּ֥ט אֲשֻׁרֵ֗ינוּ מִנִּ֥י אָרְחֶֽךָ׃ ²⁰כִּ֣י דִ֭כִּיתָנוּ בִּמְק֣וֹם תַּנִּ֑ים וַתְּכַ֖ס עָלֵ֣ינוּ בְצַלְמָֽוֶת׃ ²¹אִם־ שָׁ֭כַחְנוּ שֵׁ֣ם אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וַנִּפְרֹ֥שׂ כַּ֝פֵּ֗ינוּ לְאֵ֣ל זָֽר׃ ²²הֲלֹ֣א אֱ֭לֹהִים יַֽחֲקָר־ זֹ֑את כִּֽי־ ה֥וּא יֹ֝דֵ֗עַ תַּעֲלֻמ֥וֹת לֵֽב׃ ²³כִּֽי־ עָ֭לֶיךָ הֹרַ֣גְנוּ כָל־ הַיּ֑וֹם נֶ֝חְשַׁ֗בְנוּ כְּצֹ֣אן טִבְחָֽה׃ ²⁴ע֤וּרָה׀ לָ֖מָּה תִישַׁ֥ן׀ אֲדֹנָ֑י הָ֝קִ֗יצָה אַל־ תִּזְנַ֥ח לָנֶֽצַח׃ ²⁵לָֽמָּה־ פָנֶ֥יךָ תַסְתִּ֑יר תִּשְׁכַּ֖ח עָנְיֵ֣נוּ וְֽלַחֲצֵֽנוּ׃ ²⁶כִּ֤י שָׁ֣חָה לֶעָפָ֣ר נַפְשֵׁ֑נוּ דָּבְקָ֖ה לָאָ֣רֶץ בִּטְנֵֽנוּ׃ (WLC)

26 Psalms 44:1

26 Psalms 44:1-26 ¹We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

²How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

³For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

⁴Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

⁵Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

⁶For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

⁷But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

⁸In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

⁹But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

¹⁰Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

¹¹Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

¹²Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

¹³Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

¹⁴Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

¹⁵My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

¹⁶For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

¹⁷All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

¹⁸Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

¹⁹Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

²⁰If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

²¹Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

²²Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

²³Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

²⁴Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

²⁵For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

²⁶Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies sake.(KJV)

And goest not forth with our hosts.

¹⁰Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary;

And they that hate us take spoil for themselves.

¹¹Thou hast made us like sheep appointed for food,

And hast scattered us among the nations.

¹²Thou sellest thy people for nought,

And hast not increased thy wealth by their price.

¹³Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors,

A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.

¹⁴Thou makest us a byword among the nations,

A shaking of the head among the peoples.

¹⁵All the day long is my dishonor before me,

And the shame of my face hath covered me,

¹⁶For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth,

By reason of the enemy and the avenger.

¹⁷All this is come upon us;

Yet have we not forgotten thee,

Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

¹⁸Our heart is not turned back,

Neither have our steps declined from thy way,

And covered us with the shadow of death.

²⁰If we have forgotten the name of our God,

Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;

²¹Will not God search this out?

For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

²²Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

²³Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord?

Arise, cast us not off for ever.

26 Psalms 44:1-26 ¹WE have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us what work thou hast wrought in their days, in the times of old; ²How thou didst destroy the Gentiles with thy hand, and established thy people; how thou didst vex the kingdoms, and strengthened thy people. ³For they inherited not the land by their sword, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand and thine arm and the light of thy countenance, because thou wast pleased with them. ⁴Thou art my King, O God; for thou commandest deliverances for Jacob. ⁵Through thee will we pierce our enemies; through thy name will we tread them under that hate us. ⁶For we trust not in our bows; neither on our armour to save us. ⁷But thou hast saved us from those who hate us, and hast put to shame our enemies. ⁸We glorify thee, O God, all the day long, and praise thy name for ever.

⁹¶ But now thou hast forsaken us and put us to shame, and goest not forth with our armies: ¹⁰But thou makest us to be defeated; and our enemies have plundered us. ¹¹Thou hast sold us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the Gentiles. ¹²Thou hast sold thy people as a bargain, and dost not profit by their exchange. ¹³Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us. ¹⁴Thou makest us a byword among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the nations. ¹⁵All the day long my disgrace is before me, and the shame of my face has covered me, ¹⁶Because of the voice of him who reproaches and blasphemes; and because of the enemy that avenges.

¹⁷¶ All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. ¹⁸We have not turned back, neither have we swerved our steps from thy way; ¹⁹For thou hast humbled us a second time in the land, and covered us with the shadow of death. ²⁰And yet we have not forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to stranger gods; ²¹God will look into this thing, for he knows the secrets of the heart. ²²Yea, for thy sake are we killed every day; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. ²³Awake and sleep not, O LORD; remember us and forsake us not. ²⁴Turn not thy face from us, and forget not our humiliation and our oppression; ²⁵For our soul is humbled down to the dust; our body touches the earth. ²⁶Arise to help us; redeem us for thy mercies' sake. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah. ²We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what deeds thou didst perform in their days, in the days of old: ³thou with thy own hand didst drive out the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them thou didst set free; ⁴for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm give them victory; but thy right hand, and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance; for thou didst delight in them. ⁵Thou art my King and my God, who ordainest victories for Jacob. ⁶Through thee we push down our foes; through thy name we tread down our assailants. ⁷For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me. ⁸But thou hast saved us from our foes, and hast put to confusion those who hate us. ⁹In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to thy name for ever. [Selah] ¹⁰Yet thou hast cast us off and abased us, and hast not gone out with our armies. ¹¹Thou hast made us turn back from the foe; and our enemies have gotten spoil. ¹²Thou hast made us like sheep for slaughter, and hast scattered us among the nations. ¹³Thou hast sold thy people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them. ¹⁴Thou hast made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those about us. ¹⁵Thou hast made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples. ¹⁶All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face, ¹⁷at the words of the taunters and revilers, at the sight of the enemy and the avenger. ¹⁸All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten thee, or been false to thy covenant. ¹⁹Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from thy way, ²⁰that thou shouldst have broken us in the place of jackals, and covered us with deep darkness. ²¹If we had forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god, ²²would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart. ²³Nay, for thy sake we are slain all the day long, and accounted as sheep for the slaughter. ²⁴Rouse thyself! Why sleepest thou, O Lord? Awake! Do not cast us off for ever! ²⁵Why dost thou hide thy face? Why dost thou forget our affliction and oppression? ²⁶For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our body cleaves to the ground. [ (Psalms 44:27) Rise up, come to our help! Deliver us for the sake of thy steadfast love! ] (RSV)

²With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our fathers; you crushed the peoples and made our fathers flourish.

³It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.

⁴You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob.

⁵Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes.

⁶I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; ⁷but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.

⁸In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever. Selah ⁹But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies.

¹⁰You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us.

¹¹You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations.

¹²You sold your people for a pittance, gaining nothing from their sale.

¹³You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.

¹⁴You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.

¹⁵My disgrace is before me all day long, and my face is covered with shame ¹⁶at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.

¹⁷All this happened to us, though we had not forgotten you or been false to your covenant.

¹⁸Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path.

¹⁹But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals and covered us over with deep darkness.

²⁰If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,

²¹would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? ²²Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

²³Awake, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.

²⁴Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression?

²⁵We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground.

²⁶Rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love.(NIV)

⁹But now you have forsaken us and put us to shame, and do not go forth with our armies: ¹⁰But you make us to be defeated; and our enemies have plundered us. ¹¹You have sold us like sheep appointed for meat; and have scattered us among the Gentiles. ¹²You have sold your people as a bargain, and do not profit by their exchange. ¹³You make us a disgrace to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to those who are around us. ¹⁴You make us a byword among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the nations. ¹⁵All the day long my disgrace is before me, and the shame of my face has covered me, ¹⁶Because of the voice of him who disgraces and blasphemes; and because of the enemy that avenges.

¹⁷All this is come on us; yet we have not forgotten you, nor have we dealt falsely in your contract. ¹⁸We have not turned back, nor have we swerved our steps from your way; ¹⁹For you have humbled us a 2nd time in the land, and covered us with the shadow of death. ²⁰Yet we have not forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to stranger gods; ²¹God will look into this thing, for he knows the secrets of the heart. ²²Yes, for your sake we are killed every day; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. ²³Awake and do not sleep, oh Lord; remember us and do not forsake us. ²⁴Do not turn your face from us, and do not forget our humiliation and our oppression; ²⁵For our soul is humbled down to the dust; our body touches the earth. ²⁶Arise to help us; redeem us for your mercies' sake.
