26 Psalms 38:1-22 ¹מִזְמ֖וֹר לְדָוִ֣ד לְהַזְכִּֽיר׃ ²יְֽהוָ֗ה אַל־ בְּקֶצְפְּךָ֥ תוֹכִיחֵ֑נִי וּֽבַחֲמָתְךָ֥ תְיַסְּרֵֽנִי׃ ³כִּֽי־ חִ֭צֶּיךָ נִ֣חֲתוּ בִ֑י וַתִּנְחַ֖ת עָלַ֣י יָדֶֽךָ׃ ⁴אֵין־ מְתֹ֣ם בִּ֭בְשָׂרִי מִפְּנֵ֣י זַעְמֶ֑ךָ אֵין־ שָׁל֥וֹם בַּ֝עֲצָמַ֗י מִפְּנֵ֥י חַטָּאתִֽי׃ ⁵כִּ֣י עֲ֭וֹנֹתַי עָבְר֣וּ רֹאשִׁ֑י כְּמַשָּׂ֥א כָ֝בֵ֗ד יִכְבְּד֥וּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ ⁶הִבְאִ֣ישׁוּ נָ֭מַקּוּ חַבּוּרֹתָ֑י מִ֝פְּנֵ֗י אִוַּלְתִּֽי׃ ⁷נַעֲוֵ֣יתִי שַׁחֹ֣תִי עַד־ מְאֹ֑ד כָּל־ הַ֝יּ֗וֹם קֹדֵ֥ר הִלָּֽכְתִּי׃ ⁸כִּֽי־ כְ֭סָלַי מָלְא֣וּ נִקְלֶ֑ה וְאֵ֥ין מְ֝תֹ֗ם בִּבְשָׂרִֽי׃ ⁹נְפוּג֣וֹתִי וְנִדְכֵּ֣יתִי עַד־ מְאֹ֑ד שָׁ֝אַ֗גְתִּי מִֽנַּהֲמַ֥ת לִבִּֽי׃ ¹⁰אֲ‍ֽדֹנָי נֶגְדְּךָ֥ כָל־ תַּאֲוָתִ֑י וְ֝אַנְחָתִ֗י מִמְּךָ֥ לֹא־ נִסְתָּֽרָה׃ ¹¹לִבִּ֣י סְ֭חַרְחַר עֲזָבַ֣נִי כֹחִ֑י וְֽאוֹר־ עֵינַ֥י גַּם־ הֵ֝֗ם אֵ֣ין אִתִּֽי׃ ¹²אֹֽהֲבַ֨י׀ וְרֵעַ֗י מִנֶּ֣גֶד נִגְעִ֣י יַעֲמֹ֑דוּ וּ֝קְרוֹבַ֗י מֵרָחֹ֥ק עָמָֽדוּ׃ ¹³וַיְנַקְשׁ֤וּ׀ מְבַקְשֵׁ֬י נַפְשִׁ֗י וְדֹרְשֵׁ֣י רָ֭עָתִי דִּבְּר֣וּ הַוּ֑וֹת וּ֝מִרְמ֗וֹת כָּל־ הַיּ֥וֹם יֶהְגּֽוּ׃ ¹⁴וַאֲנִ֣י כְ֭חֵרֵשׁ לֹ֣א אֶשְׁמָ֑ע וּ֝כְאִלֵּ֗ם לֹ֣א יִפְתַּח־ פִּֽיו׃ ¹⁵וָאֱהִ֗י כְּ֭אִישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־ שֹׁמֵ֑עַ וְאֵ֥ין בְּ֝פִ֗יו תּוֹכָחֽוֹת׃ ¹⁶כִּֽי־ לְךָ֣ יְהוָ֣ה הוֹחָ֑לְתִּי אַתָּ֥ה תַ֝עֲנֶ֗ה אֲדֹנָ֥י אֱלֹהָֽי׃ ¹⁷כִּֽי־ אָ֭מַרְתִּי פֶּן־ יִשְׂמְחוּ־ לִ֑י בְּמ֥וֹט רַ֝גְלִ֗י עָלַ֥י הִגְדִּֽילוּ׃ ¹⁸כִּֽי־ אֲ֭נִי לְצֶ֣לַע נָכ֑וֹן וּמַכְאוֹבִ֖י נֶגְדִּ֣י תָמִֽיד׃ ¹⁹כִּֽי־ עֲוֹנִ֥י אַגִּ֑יד אֶ֝דְאַ֗ג מֵֽחַטָּאתִֽי׃ ²⁰וְֽ֭אֹיְבַי חַיִּ֣ים עָצֵ֑מוּ וְרַבּ֖וּ שֹׂנְאַ֣י שָֽׁקֶר׃ ²¹וּמְשַׁלְּמֵ֣י רָ֭עָה תַּ֣חַת טוֹבָ֑ה יִ֝שְׂטְנ֗וּנִי תַּ֣חַת טֽוֹב׃ ²²אַל־ תַּֽעַזְבֵ֥נִי יְהוָ֑ה אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י אַל־ תִּרְחַ֥ק מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ (WLC)

26 Psalms 38:1

26 Psalms 38:1-22 ¹O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

²For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

³There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

⁴For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

⁵My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

⁶I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

⁷For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

⁸I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

⁹Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

¹⁰My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

¹¹My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

¹²They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

¹³But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

¹⁴Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

¹⁵For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

¹⁶For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

¹⁷For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

¹⁸For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

¹⁹But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

²⁰They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

²¹Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.

²²Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.(KJV)

Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

²For thine arrows stick fast in me,

And thy hand presseth me sore.

³There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation;

Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.

⁴For mine iniquities are gone over my head:

As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

⁵My wounds are loathsome and corrupt,

Because of my foolishness.

⁶I am pained and bowed down greatly;

I go mourning all the day long.

⁷For my loins are filled with burning;

And there is no soundness in my flesh.

⁸I am faint and sore bruised:

I have groaned by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

⁹Lord, all my desire is before thee;

And my groaning is not hid from thee.

¹⁰My heart throbbeth, my strength faileth me:

As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

¹¹My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague;

And my kinsmen stand afar off.

¹²They also that seek after my life lay snares for me;

And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things,

And meditate deceits all the day long.

¹³But I, as a deaf man, hear not;

And I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

¹⁴Yea, I am as a man that heareth not,

And in whose mouth are no reproofs.

¹⁵For in thee, O Jehovah, do I hope:

Thou wilt answer, O Lord my God.

¹⁶For I said, Lest they rejoice over me:

When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

¹⁷For I am ready to fall,

And my sorrow is continually before me.

¹⁸For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

¹⁹But mine enemies are lively, and are strong;

Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good.

²¹Forsake me not, O Jehovah:

26 Psalms 38:1-22 ¹O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in the heat of thine anger. ²For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand rests heavily upon me. ³There is no peace in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sins. ⁴For mine iniquities are gone over my head; as a great burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵My wounds are loathsome and corrupt because of my foolishness. ⁶I am greatly troubled; all the day long I walk sadly. ⁷My loins are filled with trembling, and there is no peace in my body. ⁸I am feeble and miserable; I have groaned because of the despair of my heart. ⁹O LORD, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hidden from thee. ¹⁰My heart is broken, my strength hath failed me; as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. ¹¹My neighbors and my friends stood aside from my grief; and my kinsmen stood off.

¹²¶ They also that seek after my life and wish me evil lay hold on me and speak mischievous things and imagine deceits all the day long. ¹³But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that opens not his mouth. ¹⁴Thus I was as a man that hears not, and in whose mouth is no reproof. ¹⁵For in thee, O LORD, do I hope; thou wilt answer me, O LORD my God. ¹⁶Because I said, Hear me, lest they rejoice over me; they scoff at me when my feet waver. ¹⁷I am prepared to suffer, and my sorrow is continually with me. ¹⁸I will declare mine iniquity to thee; I will purify myself of my sins. ¹⁹But mine enemies are strong and alert; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. ²⁰They reward me evil for good; they reproach me because I seek after good things. ²¹Forsake me not, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me. ²²Abide to help me and save me. 26 Psalms 38:1-22 ¹A Psalm of David, for the memorial offering. ²O LORD, rebuke me not in thy anger, nor chasten me in thy wrath! ³For thy arrows have sunk into me, and thy hand has come down on me. ⁴There is no soundness in my flesh because of thy indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. ⁵For my iniquities have gone over my head; they weigh like a burden too heavy for me. ⁶My wounds grow foul and fester because of my foolishness, ⁷I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning. ⁸For my loins are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁹I am utterly spent and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. ¹⁰Lord, all my longing is known to thee, my sighing is not hidden from thee. ¹¹My heart throbs, my strength fails me; and the light of my eyes--it also has gone from me. ¹²My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my kinsmen stand afar off. ¹³Those who seek my life lay their snares, those who seek my hurt speak of ruin, and meditate treachery all the day long. ¹⁴But I am like a deaf man, I do not hear, like a dumb man who does not open his mouth. ¹⁵Yea, I am like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes. ¹⁶But for thee, O LORD, do I wait; it is thou, O LORD my God, who wilt answer. ¹⁷For I pray, "Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!" ¹⁸For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me. ¹⁹I confess my iniquity, I am sorry for my sin. ²⁰Those who are my foes without cause are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. ²¹Those who render me evil for good are my adversaries because I follow after good. ²²Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! [ (Psalms 38:23) Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! ] (RSV)

or discipline me in your wrath.

²For your arrows have pierced me,
and your hand has come down upon me.

³Because of your wrath there is no health in my body;
my bones have no soundness because of my sin.

⁴My guilt has overwhelmed me
like a burden too heavy to bear.

⁵My wounds fester and are loathsome
because of my sinful folly.

⁶I am bowed down and brought very low;
all day long I go about mourning.

⁷My back is filled with searing pain;
there is no health in my body.

⁸I am feeble and utterly crushed;
I groan in anguish of heart.

⁹All my longings lie open before you, O Lord;
my sighing is not hidden from you.

¹⁰My heart pounds, my strength fails me;
even the light has gone from my eyes.

¹¹My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds;
my neighbors stay far away.

¹²Those who seek my life set their traps,
those who would harm me talk of my ruin;
all day long they plot deception.

¹³I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear,
like a mute, who cannot open his mouth;

¹⁴I have become like a man who does not hear,
whose mouth can offer no reply.

¹⁵I wait for you, O LORD;
you will answer, O Lord my God.

¹⁶For I said, "Do not let them gloat
or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."

¹⁷For I am about to fall,
and my pain is ever with me.

¹⁸I confess my iniquity;
I am troubled by my sin.

¹⁹Many are those who are my vigorous enemies;
those who hate me without reason are numerous.

²⁰Those who repay my good with evil
slander me when I pursue what is good.

²¹O LORD, do not forsake me;
be not far from me, O my God.

²²Come quickly to help me,
O Lord my Savior.(NIV)
