22 Amos 8:1-14 1Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit. 2And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more. 3And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

4Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, 5Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit? 6That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat? 7The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. 8Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. 9And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: 10And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

11Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. 13In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst. 14They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.(KJV)

22 Amos 8:1-14 1Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, a basket of summer fruit. 2And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said Jehovah unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more. 3And the songs of the temple shall be wailings in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah: the dead bodies shall be many: in every place shall they cast them forth with silence. 4Hear this, O ye that would swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail, 5saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit; 6that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the wheat? 7Jehovah hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. 8Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? yea, it shall rise up wholly like the River; and it shall be troubled and sink again, like the River of Egypt. 9And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day. 10And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day. 11Behold, the days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah. 12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it. 13In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst. 14They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, As thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, As the way of Beer-sheba liveth; they shall fall, and never rise up again.(ASV)

22 Amos 8:1-14 1THUS has the LORD God showed me: and behold, a sign of the end. 2And the LORD said to me, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A sign of the end. Then the LORD said to me, The end is come upon my people Israel; I will not again cause it to pass by them any more. 3And the songs of the temple shall be howling in that day, says the LORD God; there shall be many dead bodies in every place; and they shall be cast away to destruction.

4¶ Hear this, O you who wrong the poor, and cause the needy of the land to come to an end, 5Saying, When will the month be over, that we may sell grain? When will the sabbath be over that we may open storehouses and make our measures small and enlarge weights and make deceitful balances? 6That we may sell to the poor for silver, and pay the needy with the refuse of the wheat, and sell the refuse which is left on the floor of the storehouses. 7The LORD, the Mighty One of Jacob, has sworn, Surely, I will never forget any of their works. 8Shall not the land tremble for these things, and every one mourn who dwells in it? The end shall come up like a flooded river; and it shall cast things away, and then recede like the river of Egypt. 9And it shall come to pass in that day, says the LORD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the daylight. 10And I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation; and I will put sackcloth upon all your loins and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end of it as a bitter day.

11¶ Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the word of the LORD; 12And they shall gather together from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. 13In that day the beautiful virgins and the young men shall faint for thirst. 14They that swore by the idols of Samaria, saying, As your god lives, O Dan, and, as the cult of Beer-sheba lives, even they shall fall and never rise again. 22 Amos 8:1-14 1Thus the Lord GOD showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit. 2And he said, "Amos, what do you see?" And I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then the LORD said to me, "The end has come upon my people Israel; I will never again pass by them. 3The songs of the temple shall become wailings in that day," says the Lord GOD; "the dead bodies shall be many; in every place they shall be cast out in silence."

4Hear this, you who trample upon the needy, and bring the poor of the land to an end, 5saying, "When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great, and deal deceitfully with false balances, 6that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, and sell the refuse of the wheat?"

7The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: "Surely I will never forget any of their deeds. 8Shall not the land tremble on this account, and every one mourn who dwells in it, and all of it rise like the Nile, and be tossed about and sink again, like the Nile of Egypt?"

9"And on that day," says the Lord GOD, "I will make the sun go down at noon, and darken the earth in broad daylight. 10I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness on every head; I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and the end of it like a bitter day.

11"Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord GOD, "when I will send a famine on the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. 12They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.

13"In that day the fair virgins and the young men shall faint for thirst. 14Those who swear by Ash'imah of Sama'ria, and say, `As thy god lives, O Dan,' and, `As the way of Beer-sheba lives,' they shall fall, and never rise again."(RSV)

22 Amos 8:1-14 1This is what the Sovereign LORD showed me: a basket of ripe fruit. 2"What do you see, Amos?" he asked. "A basket of ripe fruit," I answered. Then the LORD said to me, "The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.

3"In that day," declares the Sovereign LORD, "the songs in the temple will turn to wailing. Many, many bodies -- flung everywhere! Silence!" 4Hear this, you who trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land,

5saying, "When will the New Moon be over that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath be ended that we may market wheat?" -- skimping the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales, 6buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the sweepings with the wheat.

7The LORD has sworn by the Pride of Jacob: "I will never forget anything they have done. 8"Will not the land tremble for this, and all who live in it mourn? The whole land will rise like the Nile; it will be stirred up and then sink like the river of Egypt.

9"In that day," declares the Sovereign LORD, "I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. 10I will turn your religious feasts into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day. 11"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land -- not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. 12Men will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.

13"In that day "the lovely young women and strong young men will faint because of thirst. 14They who swear by the shame of Samaria, or say, `As surely as your god lives, O Dan,' or, `As surely as the god of Beersheba lives' -- they will fall, never to rise again."(NIV)

22 Amos 8:1-14 1Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit.

2He said, 'Amos, what do you see?'

I said, 'A basket of summer fruit.'

Then Yahweh said to me,

'The end has come on my people Israel.
I will not again pass by them any more.

3The songs of the temple will be wailings in that day,' says the Lord Yahweh.
'The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.

4Hear this, youP who desire to swallow up the needy,
And cause the poor of the land to fail,
5Saying, 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain?
And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat,
Making the ephah small, and the shekel large,
And dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

6That we may buy the poor for silver,
And the needy for a pair of shoes,
And sell the sweepings with the wheat?''

7Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob,
'Surely I will never forget any of their works.

8Won't the land tremble for this,
And everyone mourn who dwells in it?

Yes, it will rise up wholly like the River;
And it will be stirred up and sink again, like the River of Egypt.

9'It will happen in that day,' says the Lord Yahweh,
'That I will cause the sun to go down at noon,
And I will darken the earth in the clear day.

10I will turn your feasts into mourning,
And all your songs into lamentation;

And I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies,
And baldness on every head.

I will make it like the mourning for an only son,
And the end of it like a bitter day.

11Behold, the days come,' says the Lord Yahweh,
'That I will send a famine in the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of Yahweh.

12They will wander from sea to sea,
And from the north even to the east;
They will run back and forth to seek the word of Yahweh,
And will not find it.

13In that day the beautiful virgins
And the young men will faint for thirst.

14Those who swear by the sin of Samaria,
And say, 'As your god, Dan, lives;'
And, 'As the way of Beersheba lives;'
They will fall, and never rise up again.'(WEB)
