22 Amos 6:1-14 1Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! 2Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? 3Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 4That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; 5That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; 6That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

7Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed. 8The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein. 9And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. 10And a mans uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD. 11For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

12Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock: 13Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength? 14But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.(KJV)

22 Amos 6:1-14 1Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and to them that are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! 2Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border? 3-ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 4that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; 5that sing idle songs to the sound of the viol; that invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; 6that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. 7Therefore shall they now go captive with the first that go captive; and the revelry of them that stretched themselves shall pass away. 8The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts: I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein. 9And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. 10And when a man's uncle shall take him up, even he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is in the innermost parts of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No; then shall he say, Hold thy peace; for we may not make mention of the name of Jehovah. 11For, behold, Jehovah commandeth, and the great house shall be smitten with breaches, and the little house with clefts. 12Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood; 13ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength? 14For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of the Arabah.(ASV)

22 Amos 6:1-14 1WOE to them who despise Zion and trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are chosen by the chiefs of the nations that have captivated the house of Israel! 2Pass over to Caliah and see; and from thence go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Or is their territory greater than your territory? 3O you who wait for the evil day, and cause the sabbath of violence to come near; 4Who lie upon beds of ivory, and give themselves to pleasures upon their couches, and eat the fatlings from the flock and calves from the midst of the herd; 5Who chant to the sound of the harp, and consider themselves skilled in the musical instruments like David; 6Who drink pure wine, and anoint themselves with the finest perfumes; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. 7Therefore now they shall be carried captive with the first who go captive, and the joy shall be taken away from their rulers.

8¶ The LORD God has sworn by himself, says the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob and hate his palaces; therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it. 9And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house that they shall die. 10And a man's uncle or one who is near to him shall carry the dead body out of the house; and he shall say to him who is in the house, Is there any one else in the house with you? And he shall say, There is no one, because they have perished; for they did not mention the name of the LORD. 11For, behold, the LORD will go forth and he will smite the great house and cause it to quiver, and the little house will he make desolate. 12Do horses run upon rocks? Or does one plough with horses? For you have turned justice into bitterness, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood; 13You who rejoice over nothing, who say, Have we not taken a city by our own strength? 14Therefore, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, says the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall drive you away from the entrance of Hamath to the valley of Arabah. (LAM)

22 Amos 6:1-14 1"Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Sama'ria, the notable men of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! 2Pass over to Calneh, and see; and thence go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Or is their territory greater than your territory, 3O you who put far away the evil day, and bring near the seat of violence?

4"Woe to those who lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat lambs from the flock, and calves from the midst of the stall; 5who sing idle songs to the sound of the harp, and like David invent for themselves instruments of music; 6who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the finest oils, but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph! 7Therefore they shall now be the first of those to go into exile, and the revelry of those who stretch themselves shall pass away."

8The Lord GOD has sworn by himself (says the LORD, the God of hosts): "I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his strongholds; and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it."

9And if ten men remain in one house, they shall die. 10And when a man's kinsman, he who burns him, shall take him up to bring the bones out of the house, and shall say to him who is in the innermost parts of the house, "Is there still any one with you?" he shall say, "No"; and he shall say, "Hush! We must not mention the name of the LORD."

11For behold, the LORD commands, and the great house shall be smitten into fragments, and the little house into bits. 12Do horses run upon rocks? Does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood-- 13you who rejoice in Lo-debar, who say, "Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim for ourselves?" 14"For behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel," says the LORD, the God of hosts; "and they shall oppress you from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of the Arabah."(RSV)

22 Amos 6:1-14 1Woe to you who are complacent in Zion, and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria, you notable men of the foremost nation, to whom the people of Israel come! 2Go to Calneh and look at it; go from there to great Hamath, and then go down to Gath in Philistia. Are they better off than your two kingdoms? Is their land larger than yours? 3You put off the evil day and bring near a reign of terror. 4You lie on beds inlaid with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves. 5You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments. 6You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph. 7Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile; your feasting and lounging will end.

8The Sovereign LORD has sworn by himself -- the LORD God Almighty declares: "I abhor the pride of Jacob and detest his fortresses; I will deliver up the city and everything in it."

9If ten men are left in one house, they too will die. 10And if a relative who is to burn the bodies comes to carry them out of the house and asks anyone still hiding there, "Is anyone with you?" and he says, "No," then he will say, "Hush! We must not mention the name of the LORD." 11For the LORD has given the command, and he will smash the great house into pieces and the small house into bits. 12Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness -- 13you who rejoice in the conquest of Lo Debar and say, "Did we not take Karnaim by our own strength?" 14For the LORD God Almighty declares, "I will stir up a nation against you, O house of Israel, that will oppress you all the way from Lebo Hamath to the valley of the Arabah."(NIV)

22 Amos 6:1-14 1Woe to those who are at ease in Zion,
And to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria,
The notable men of the chief of the nations,
To whom the house of Israel come!

2GoP to Calneh, and see;
And from there goP to Hamath the great;
Then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are they better than these kingdoms?

5Who strum on the strings of a harp;
Who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David;
6Who drink wine in bowls,

But they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

7Therefore they will now go captive with the first who go captive;
And the feasting and lounging will end.

8'The Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself,' says Yahweh, the God of Armies:

Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.

That they shall die.

10'When a man's relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, 'Is there yet any with you?' And he says, 'No;' then he will say, 'Hush! Indeed we must not mention the name of Yahweh.'

11'For, behold, Yahweh commands, and the great house will be smashed to pieces,
And the little house into bits.

12Do horses run on the rocky crags?
Does one plow there with oxen?

But youP have turned justice into poison,
And the fruit of righteousness into bitterness;

13YouP who rejoice in a thing of nothing, who say,
'Haven't we taken for ourselves horns by our own strength?'

14For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, house of Israel,'
Says Yahweh, the God of Armies;
'And they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.'(WEB)
