20 Micah 1:1-16 ¹דְּבַר־ יְהוָ֣ה׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֗ה אֶל־ מִיכָה֙ הַמֹּ֣רַשְׁתִּ֔י בִּימֵ֥י יוֹתָ֛ם אָחָ֥ז יְחִזְקִיָּ֖ה מַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־ חָזָ֥ה עַל־ שֹׁמְר֖וֹן וִירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ ²שִׁמְעוּ֙ עַמִּ֣ים כֻּלָּ֔ם הַקְשִׁ֖יבִי אֶ֣רֶץ וּמְלֹאָ֑הּ וִיהִי֩ אֲדֹנָ֨י יְהוִ֤ה בָּכֶם֙ לְעֵ֔ד אֲדֹנָ֖י מֵהֵיכַ֥ל קָדְשֽׁוֹ׃ ³כִּֽי־ הִנֵּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה יֹצֵ֣א מִמְּקוֹמ֑וֹ וְיָרַ֥ד וְדָרַ֖ךְ עַל־ אָֽרֶץ׃ ⁴וְנָמַ֤סּוּ הֶֽהָרִים֙ תַּחְתָּ֔יו וְהָעֲמָקִ֖ים יִתְבַּקָּ֑עוּ כַּדּוֹנַג֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י הָאֵ֔שׁ כְּמַ֖יִם מֻגָּרִ֥ים בְּמוֹרָֽד׃ ⁵בְּפֶ֤שַׁע יַֽעֲקֹב֙ כָּל־ זֹ֔את וּבְחַטֹּ֖אות בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מִֽי־ פֶ֣שַׁע יַעֲקֹ֗ב הֲלוֹא֙ שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן וּמִי֙ בָּמ֣וֹת יְהוּדָ֔ה הֲל֖וֹא יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ ⁶וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י שֹׁמְר֛וֹן לְעִ֥י הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה לְמַטָּ֣עֵי כָ֑רֶם וְהִגַּרְתִּ֤י לַגַּי֙ אֲבָנֶ֔יהָ וִיסֹדֶ֖יהָ אֲגַלֶּֽה׃ ⁷וְכָל־ פְּסִילֶ֣יהָ יֻכַּ֗תּוּ וְכָל־ אֶתְנַנֶּ֙יהָ֙ יִשָּׂרְפ֣וּ בָאֵ֔שׁ וְכָל־ עֲצַבֶּ֖יהָ אָשִׂ֣ים שְׁמָמָ֑ה כִּ֠י מֵאֶתְנַ֤ן זוֹנָה֙ קִבָּ֔צָה וְעַד־ אֶתְנַ֥ן זוֹנָ֖ה יָשֽׁוּבוּ׃ ⁸עַל־ זֹאת֙ אֶסְפְּדָ֣ה וְאֵילִ֔ילָה אֵילְכָ֥ה וְעָר֑וֹם אֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה מִסְפֵּד֙ כַּתַּנִּ֔ים וְאֵ֖בֶל כִּבְנ֥וֹת יַעֲנָֽה׃ ⁹כִּ֥י אֲנוּשָׁ֖ה מַכּוֹתֶ֑יהָ כִּי־ בָ֙אָה֙ עַד־ יְהוּדָ֔ה נָגַ֛ע עַד־ שַׁ֥עַר עַמִּ֖י עַד־ יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ ¹⁰בְּגַת֙ אַל־ תַּגִּ֔ידוּ בָּכ֖וֹ אַל־ תִּבְכּ֑וּ בְּבֵ֣ית לְעַפְרָ֔ה עָפָ֖ר ¹¹עִבְרִ֥י לָכֶ֛ם יוֹשֶׁ֥בֶת שָׁפִ֖יר עֶרְיָה־ בֹ֑שֶׁת לֹ֤א יָֽצְאָה֙ יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת צַֽאֲנָ֔ן מִסְפַּד֙ בֵּ֣ית הָאֵ֔צֶל יִקַּ֥ח מִכֶּ֖ם עֶמְדָּתֽוֹ׃ ¹²כִּֽי־ חָ֥לָֽה לְט֖וֹב יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת מָר֑וֹת כִּֽי־ יָ֤רַד רָע֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה לְשַׁ֖עַר יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ ¹³רְתֹ֧ם הַמֶּרְכָּבָ֛ה לָרֶ֖כֶשׁ יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת לָכִ֑ישׁ רֵאשִׁ֨ית חַטָּ֥את הִיא֙ לְבַת־ צִיּ֔וֹן כִּי־ בָ֥ךְ נִמְצְא֖וּ פִּשְׁעֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ¹⁴לָכֵן֙ תִּתְּנִ֣י שִׁלּוּחִ֔ים עַ֖ל מוֹרֶ֣שֶׁת גַּ֑ת בָּתֵּ֤י אַכְזִיב֙ לְאַכְזָ֔ב לְמַלְכֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ¹⁵עֹ֗ד הַיֹּרֵשׁ֙ אָ֣בִי לָ֔ךְ יוֹשֶׁ֖בֶת מָֽרֵשָׁ֑ה עַד־ עֲדֻלָּ֥ם יָב֖וֹא כְּב֥וֹד יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ¹⁶קָרְחִ֣י וָגֹ֔זִּי עַל־ בְּנֵ֖י תַּעֲנוּגָ֑יִךְ הַרְחִ֤בִי קָרְחָתֵךְ֙ כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁר כִּ֥י גָל֖וּ מִמֵּֽךְ׃ (WLC)

20 Micah 1:1

20 Micah 1:1-16 ¹The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. ²Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple. ³For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. ⁴And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place. ⁵For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem? ⁶Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof. ⁷And all the graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate: for she gathered it of the hire of an harlot, and they shall return to the hire of an harlot. ⁸Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the dragons, and mourning as the owls. ⁹For her wound is incurable; for it is come unto Judah; he is come unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.

¹⁰Declare ye it not at Gath, weep ye not at all: in the house of Aphrah roll thyself in the dust. ¹¹Pass ye away, thou inhabitant of Saphir, having thy shame naked: the inhabitant of Zaanan came not forth in the mourning of Beth-ezel; he shall receive of you his standing. ¹²For the inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem. ¹³O thou inhabitant of Lachish, bind the chariot to the swift beast: she is the beginning of the sin to the daughter of Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee. ¹⁴Therefore shalt thou give presents to Moresheth-gath: the houses of Achzib shall be a lie to the kings of Israel. ¹⁵Yet will I bring an heir unto thee, O inhabitant of Mareshah: he shall come unto Adullam the glory of Israel. ¹⁶Make thee bald, and poll thee for thy delicate children; enlarge thy baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.(KJV)

What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem? ⁶Therefore I will make Samaria as a heap of the field, and as places for planting vineyards; and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will uncover the foundations thereof. ⁷And all her graven images shall be beaten to pieces, and all her hires shall be burned with fire, and all her idols will I lay desolate; for of the hire of a harlot hath she gathered them, and unto the hire of a harlot shall they return. ⁸For this will I lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals, and a lamentation like the ostriches. ⁹For her wounds are incurable; for it is come even unto Judah; it reacheth unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem. ¹⁰Tell it not in Gath, weep not at all: at Beth-le-aphrah have I rolled myself in the dust. ¹¹Pass away, O inhabitant of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame: the inhabitant of Zaanan is not come forth; the wailing of Beth-ezel shall take from you the stay thereof. ¹²For the inhabitant of Maroth waiteth anxiously for good, because evil is come down from Jehovah unto the gate of Jerusalem. ¹³Bind the chariot to the swift steed, O inhabitant of Lachish: she was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion; for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee. ¹⁴Therefore shalt thou give a parting gift to Moresheth-gath: the houses of Achzib shall be a deceitful thing unto the kings of Israel. ¹⁵I will yet bring unto thee, O inhabitant of Mareshah, him that shall possess thee: the glory of Israel shall come even unto Adullam. ¹⁶Make thee bald, and cut off thy hair for the children of thy delight: enlarge thy baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.(ASV)

20 Micah 1:1-16 ¹THE word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morashite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. ²Hear, all you people; hearken, O earth and all that is in it; and let the LORD God be a witness among you, even the LORD from his holy temple. ³For behold, the LORD will come forth out of his place, and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth. ⁴And the mountains shall melt under him, and the valleys shall be rent asunder like wax before the fire, and like waters that run down a steep place. ⁵All this will happen because of the wickedness of Jacob and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the wickedness of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the sin of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem? ⁶Therefore I will make Samaria as a ploughed field and a place for the planting of a vineyard; and I will pile her stones into a heap, and I will uncover the foundation thereof. ⁷And all her graven images shall be broken to pieces and all her idols shall be burned with fire and all her shrines of worship I will lay desolate; for they were gathered of the hire of a harlot, and they shall return to the hire of a harlot.

⁸¶ Therefore I will mourn and howl, and walk bare footed and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackal and mourning like the owl. ⁹For her wound is very painful; and disaster has reached Judah; it has come to the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem. ¹⁰Rejoice not in Gath, weep not at all; in the house of Aphrah roll yourselves in the dust. ¹¹Pass away, O you beautiful inhabitant; you came out naked and you are not shamed, O you inhabitant of Zanan; your wound will be like that of Beth-aozel. ¹²For the rebellious inhabitant is sick of waiting for good; for disaster is come down from the LORD to the gate of Jerusalem. ¹³You have harnessed horses to the chariots, O you inhabitants of Lachish; you were the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion; for in you were found the transgressions of Israel. ¹⁴Therefore you shall abandon the possessions of Gath; the shrines of falsehood have become a lie to the kings of Israel. ¹⁵Yet will I bring an heir against you, O inhabitant of Mareshah; he shall exalt the glory of Israel for ever. ¹⁶Make yourself bald, pull out your hair, for your delicate children; enlarge your baldness as the eagle; for they are carried into captivity from you. ²Hear, you peoples, all of you; hearken, O earth, and all that is in it; and let the Lord GOD be a witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple. ³For behold, the LORD is coming forth out of his place, and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth. ⁴And the mountains will melt under him and the valleys will be cleft, like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place. ⁵All this is for the transgression of Jacob and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Sama'ria? And what is the sin of the house of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem? ⁶Therefore I will make Sama'ria a heap in the open country, a place for planting vineyards; and I will pour down her stones into the valley, and uncover her foundations. ⁷All her images shall be beaten to pieces, all her hires shall be burned with fire, and all her idols I will lay waste; for from the hire of a harlot she gathered them, and to the hire of a harlot they shall return.

⁸For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make lamentation like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches. ⁹For her wound is incurable; and it has come to Judah, it has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.

¹⁰Tell it not in Gath, weep not at all; in Beth-le-aph'rah roll yourselves in the dust. ¹¹Pass on your way, inhabitants of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame; the inhabitants of Za'anan do not come forth; the wailing of Beth-e'zel shall take away from you its standing place. ¹²For the inhabitants of Maroth wait anxiously for good, because evil has come down from the LORD to the gate of Jerusalem. ¹³Harness the steeds to the chariots, inhabitants of Lachish; you were the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for in you were found the transgressions of Israel. ¹⁴Therefore you shall give parting gifts to Mo'resheth-gath; the houses of Achzib shall be a deceitful thing to the kings of Israel. ¹⁵I will again bring a conqueror upon you, inhabitants of Mare'shah; the glory of Israel shall come to Adullam. ¹⁶Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair, for the children of your delight; make yourselves as bald as the eagle, for they shall go from you into exile.(RSV)

20 Micah 1:1-16 ¹The word of the LORD that came to Micah of Moresheth during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah -- the vision he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. ²Hear, O peoples, all of you, listen, O earth and all who are in it, that the Sovereign LORD may witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple. ³Look! The LORD is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads the high places of the earth. ⁴The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope. ⁵All this is because of Jacob's transgression, because of the sins of the house of Israel. What is Jacob's transgression? Is it not Samaria? What is Judah's high place? Is it not Jerusalem? ⁶"Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of rubble, a place for planting vineyards. I will pour her stones into the valley and lay bare her foundations. ⁷All her idols will be broken to pieces; all her temple gifts will be burned with fire; I will destroy all her images. Since she gathered her gifts from the wages of prostitutes, as the wages of prostitutes they will again be used." ⁸Because of this I will weep and wail; I will go about barefoot and naked. I will howl like a jackal and moan like an owl. ⁹For her wound is incurable; it has come to Judah. It has reached the very gate of my people, even to Jerusalem itself. ¹⁰Tell it not in Gath; weep not at all. In Beth Ophrah roll in the dust. ¹¹Pass on in nakedness and shame, you who live in Shaphir. Those who live in Zaanan will not come out. Beth Ezel is in mourning; its protection is taken from you. ¹²Those who live in Maroth writhe in pain, waiting for relief, because disaster has come from the LORD, even to the gate of Jerusalem. ¹³You who live in Lachish, harness the team to the chariot. You were the beginning of sin to the Daughter of Zion, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you. ¹⁴Therefore you will give parting gifts to Moresheth Gath. The town of Aczib will prove deceptive to the kings of Israel. ¹⁵I will bring a conqueror against you who live in Mareshah. He who is the glory of Israel will come to Adullam. ¹⁶Shave your heads in mourning for the children in whom you delight; make yourselves as bald as the vulture, for they will go from you into exile.(NIV)

And let the Lord Yahweh be witness against you,
The Lord from his holy temple.

³For, behold, Yahweh comes forth out of his place,
And will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.

⁴The mountains melt under him,
And the valleys split apart,
Like wax before the fire,
Like waters that are poured down a steep place.

⁵'All this is for the disobedience of Jacob,
And for the sins of the house of Israel.

What is the disobedience of Jacob?
Isn't it Samaria?

And what are the high places of Judah?
Aren't they Jerusalem?

⁶Therefore I will make Samaria like a rubble heap of the field,
Like places for planting vineyards;

And I will pour down its stones into the valley,
And I will uncover its foundations.

⁷All her idols will be beaten to pieces,
And all her temple gifts will be burned with fire,
And all her images I will destroy;

For of the hire of a prostitute has she gathered them,
And to the hire of a prostitute shall they return.'

⁸For this I will lament and wail;
I will go stripped and naked;
I will howl like the jackals,
And moan like the daughters of owls.

⁹For her wounds are incurable;
For it has come even to Judah.

It reaches to the gate of my people,
Even to Jerusalem.

¹⁰Don't tell it in Gath,

⁸Therefore, I will mourn and howl, and walk bare footed and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackal and mourning like the owl. ⁹For her wound is very painful; and disaster has reached Judah; it has come to the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem. ¹⁰Do not rejoice in Gath, do not weep at all; in the house of Aphrah roll yourselves in the dust. ¹¹Pass away, oh beautiful inhabitant; you came out naked and you are not shamed, oh inhabitant of Zanan; your wound will be like that of Bethaozel. ¹²For the rebellious inhabitant is sick of waiting for good; for disaster is come down from Yahvah to the gate of Jerusalem. ¹³You have harnessed horses to the chariots, oh inhabitants of Lachish; you were the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion; for in you were found the transgressions of Israel. ¹⁴Therefore, you will abandon the possessions of Gath; the shrines of falsehood have become a lie to the kings of Israel. ¹⁵Yet I will bring an heir against you, oh inhabitant of Mareshah; he will exalt the glory of Israel forever. ¹⁶Make yourself bald, pull out your hair, for your delicate children; enlarge your baldness as the eagle; for they are carried into captivity from you.
