2 Exodus 5:1-23 1And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. 2And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. 3And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. 4And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens. 5And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens. 6And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying, 7Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God. 9Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

10And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. 11Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished. 12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw. 13And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw. 14And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaohs taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

15Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants? 16There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people. 17But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD. 18Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks. 19And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

20And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: 21And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us. 22And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? 23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.(KJV)

2 Exodus 5:1-23 1And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. 2And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto his voice to let Israel go? I know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go. 3And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto Jehovah our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. 4And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, loose the people from their works? get you unto your burdens. 5And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land are now many, and ye make them rest from their burdens. 6And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying, 7Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8And the number of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof: for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God. 9Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein; and let them not regard lying words.

10And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. 11Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it: for nought of your work shall be diminished. 12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. 13And the taskmasters were urgent saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw. 14And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterday and to-day, in making brick as heretofore?

15Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants? 16There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault it in thine own people. 17But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to Jehovah. 18Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the number of bricks. 19And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, when it was said, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, your daily tasks. 20And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: 21and they said unto them, Jehovah look upon you, and judge: because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

22And Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? 23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.(ASV)

2 Exodus 5:1-23 1AND afterward Moses and Aaron went into the palace and told Pharaoh, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness. 2And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

3¶ And they said, The LORD God of the Hebrews has appeared to us; now let us go three days' journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with the sword or with pestilence. 4And the king of Egypt said to them, Wherefore do you, Moses and Aaron, cause the people to stop from their work? Go back to your tasks. 5And Pharaoh said to them, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and you cause them to stop from their work. 6And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people and their scribes, saying, 7You shall no more give the people straw to make bricks, as heretofore; let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8But the number of bricks which they did make heretofore, you shall lay upon them; you shall not reduce the number thereof; for they are idle; that is why they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God. 9Let more work be assigned to the men, that they may be occupied, so that they may not think to engage in vain conversations.

10¶ And the taskmasters of the people and their scribes went out and said to the people, Thus says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. 11Go, get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it; but your work shall not be reduced. 12So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather the stubble. 13And the taskmasters pressed them, saying, Complete your work as you have always done, as when straw was given to you. 14And the scribes of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had appointed over them, were beaten, and demanded, Why have you not completed your quota of bricks both yesterday and today, as heretofore?

15¶ Then the scribes of the children of Israel came and complained to Pharaoh, saying, Why are your servants treated in this manner? 16There is no straw given to your servants, and yet they say to us, Make bricks: and, behold, your servants are beaten; and you sin against your people. 17But Pharaoh said to them, You are surely idle; therefore you say, Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD. 18Go therefore now and work; and straw shall not be given you, yet you shall deliver the number of bricks. 19And the scribes of the children of Israel saw that they were in a bad situation, for it was said to them, You must not reduce the number of your bricks, of your daily task. 20And they met Moses and Aaron standing opposite them, as they came out from the presence of Pharaoh; 21And they said to them, May the LORD look upon you and judge; because you have made us to be in disfavor in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hands to kill us. 22And Moses returned to the LORD and said, O my LORD, Why hast thou caused this people to be ill-treated? And why didst thou send me here? 23For since the hour I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has ill-treated this people; and thou hast not delivered thy people at all. (LAM)

2 Exodus 5:1-23 1Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, `Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.'" 2But Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should heed his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go." 3Then they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us; let us go, we pray, a three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword." 4But the king of Egypt said to them, "Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people away from their work? Get to your burdens." 5And Pharaoh said, "Behold, the people of the land are now many and you make them rest from their burdens!" 6The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their foremen, 7"You shall no longer give the people straw to make bricks, as heretofore; let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8But the number of bricks which they made heretofore you shall lay upon them, you shall by no means lessen it; for they are idle; therefore they cry, `Let us go and offer sacrifice to our God.' 9Let heavier work be laid upon the men that they may labor at it and pay no regard to lying words."

10So the taskmasters and the foremen of the people went out and said to the people, "Thus says Pharaoh, `I will not give you straw. 11Go yourselves, get your straw wherever you can find it; but your work will not be lessened in the least.'" 12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw. 13The taskmasters were urgent, saying, "Complete your work, your daily task, as when there was straw." 14And the foremen of the people of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and were asked, "Why have you not done all your task of making bricks today, as hitherto?"

15Then the foremen of the people of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, "Why do you deal thus with your servants? 16No straw is given to your servants, yet they say to us, `Make bricks!' And behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people." 17But he said, "You are idle, you are idle; therefore you say, `Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.' 18Go now, and work; for no straw shall be given you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks." 19The foremen of the people of Israel saw that they were in evil plight, when they said, "You shall by no means lessen your daily number of bricks." 20They met Moses and Aaron, who were waiting for them, as they came forth from Pharaoh; 21and they said to them, "The LORD look upon you and judge, because you have made us offensive in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us."

22Then Moses turned again to the LORD and said, "O LORD, why hast thou done evil to this people? Why didst thou ever send me? 23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has done evil to this people, and thou hast not delivered thy people at all." (RSV)

2 Exodus 5:1-23 1Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: `Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert.'"

2Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go."

3Then they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword."

4But the king of Egypt said, "Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!" 5Then Pharaoh said, "Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working."

6That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and foremen in charge of the people: 7"You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. 8But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don't reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, `Let us go and sacrifice to our God.' 9Make the work harder for the men so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies."

10Then the slave drivers and the foremen went out and said to the people, "This is what Pharaoh says: `I will not give you any more straw. 11Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced at all.'" 12So the people scattered all over Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw. 13The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, "Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw." 14The Israelite foremen appointed by Pharaoh's slave drivers were beaten and were asked, "Why didn't you meet your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?"

15Then the Israelite foremen went and appealed to Pharaoh: "Why have you treated your servants this way? 16Your servants are given no straw, yet we are told, `Make bricks!' Your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people."

17Pharaoh said, "Lazy, that's what you are -- lazy! That is why you keep saying, `Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.' 18Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks."

19The Israelite foremen realized they were in trouble when they were told, "You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day." 20When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them, 21and they said, "May the LORD look upon you and judge you! You have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us."

22Moses returned to the LORD and said, "O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? 23Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all."(NIV)

17But he said, 'YouP are idle! YouP are idle! Therefore youP say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to Yahweh.' 18Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet shall youP deliver the same number of bricks!'

19The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, 'YouP shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!'

10The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, This is what Pharaoh says: 'I will not give you straw. 11Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished.' 12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. 13The taskmasters were urgent saying, 'Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw!' 14The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, 'Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?'

15Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, 'Why do you deal this way with your servants? 16No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, 'Make brick!' and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.'

17But he said, 'You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.' 18Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!'

19The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, 'You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!'

20They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: 21and they said to them, 'May the LORD look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.'

22Moses returned to the LORD, and said, 'Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me? 23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all.'(WEB/HNV)

2 Exodus 5:1-23 1AND afterward Moses and Aaron went into the palace and told Pharaoh, Thus says Yahvah God of Israel, Let my people go that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness. 2And Pharaoh said, Who is Yahvah, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I do not know Yahvah, nor will I let Israel go.

3And they said, Yahvah God of the Hebrews has appeared to us; now let us go 3 days' journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice to Yahvah our God; lest he fall on us with the sword or with pestilence. 4And the king of Egypt said to them, Why, Moses and Aaron, do you cause the people to stop from their work? Go back to your tasks. 5And Pharaoh said to them, Look, the people of the land now are many, and you cause them to stop from their work. 6And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people and their scribes, saying, 7You will not give the people straw to make bricks any longer; let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8But the number of bricks which they made previously, you will lay on them; you will not reduce the number; for they are idle; that is why they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God. 9Let more work be assigned to the men, that they may be occupied, so that they may not think to engage in vain conversations.

10And the taskmasters of the people and their scribes went out and said to the people, Thus says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. 11Go, get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it; but your work will not be reduced. 12So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather the stubble. 13And the taskmasters pressed them, saying, Complete your work as you have always done, as when straw was given to you. 14And the scribes of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had appointed over them, were beaten, and demanded, Why have you not completed your quota of bricks both yesterday and today, as previously?

15Then the scribes of the children of Israel came and complained to Pharaoh, saying, Why are your servants treated in this manner? 16There is no straw given to your servants, yet they say to us, Make bricks; and look, your servants are beaten; and you sin against your people. 17But Pharaoh said to them, You are surely idle; therefore you say, Let us go and sacrifice to Yahvah. 18Go therefore now and work; and straw will not be given you, yet you will deliver the number of bricks. 19And the scribes of the children of Israel saw that they were in a bad situation, for it was said to them, You must not reduce the number of your bricks, of your daily task. 20And they met Moses and Aaron standing opposite them, as they came out from the presence of Pharaoh; 21And they said to them, May Yahvah look on you and judge; because you have made us to be in disfavor in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hands to kill us. 22And Moses returned to Yahvah and said, Oh my Lord, Why have you caused this people to be ill-treated? And why did you send me here? 23For since the hour I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has ill-treated this people; and you have not delivered your people at all. (BRB)
