THEN Jonah prayed before Yahvah his God from the belly of the fish, saying,
I cried to Yahvah in my distress and he answered me; out of the depths of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
For you have cast me into the deep, in the middle of the sea; and the flood encircled me: all your billows and your waves have passed over me.
Then I said, I am cast far away from your sight; yet now I will see again your holy temple.
The waters engulfed me, even to the soul; the depth closed around me, my head lay at the bottom of the sea.
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth shut up its bars against me forever; yet you have brought up my life from corruption, oh Yahvah my God.
When my soul fainted inside me, I remembered Yahvah; and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
All those who revere false idols forsake your mercy.
But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay the things that I have vowed, as a reward for Yahvah.
And Yahvah commanded the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land.
